The Trouble with slotting the Critical Strikes ATO…
The Trouble replied to The Trouble's topic in Scrapper
@BrandX hit the nail on the head. I've omitted toggles because it makes predicting your Crit Window impossible, and the goal of this post was to steer Scrappers towards the most efficient placement for their personal build(s). By all means, put it in a toggle if you'd like! I'm not the Build Police. 🙂 I think that method would work best with extremely fast recharge attacks, so you could just go on your merry little berserk fury and randomly get a boost here and there. You don't need to be "efficient" to have fun. I'm sure most of us agree that a successful build is whatever leaves you standing while your enemies are in piles upon the floor. -
The Trouble with slotting the Critical Strikes ATO…
The Trouble replied to The Trouble's topic in Scrapper
If it procs (24% chance on standard, 46% for Superior), then you have 4.118 seconds of critical strikes, not just the next attack. A short animation or a long one doesn't matter as much as the Time After Effect, which you want to be as short as possible. Once Total Focus has activated, you'll get 3.326 seconds of crits, and the ATO has a very high proc rate in this power (65% chance on standard, 90% for Superior). On paper, it looks like a pretty good spot to slot this. Tables will include proc rates Soon(TM)! Tables updated! -
The Trouble with slotting the Critical Strikes ATO…

Well, crap. You are correct. I'll update the tables to include regular and superior Critical Strikes proc chances as soon as my brain will allow. Thank you. -
This is close to my experience. I used to have a ton of stuff stashed away, but I've been tearing down, giving away, and selling lately. After fully kitting out two pages of 50's, a handful of my wife's 50's, buying WAY too many booster packs, and giving away a ton of inf, I don't have a lot of liquid wealth at all. I still consider myself "rich" because there's literally nothing I can't afford. Sometimes I have to wait 45 minutes to an hour to make the inf for the new shiny thing, but playing the market is still quite fun for me. So that's my answer: Rich=everything you could want is readily available. In the past, I haven't considered slotted enhancements as part of a person's wealth, but this thread changed my mind. Reward Merits absolutely count!

The Trouble with slotting the Critical Strikes ATO…
The Trouble replied to The Trouble's topic in Scrapper
I very passively addressed the issues like multiple targets when I said things like "probably be good candidates to slot this ATO (within reason)". My hope was to give folks a direction to look in, rather than recommend powers to use outright. Many thanks for addressing such a meaningful component missing from these tables! Directly related: Even though the Crit Window is pretty small for Broadsword's Slice, that's where I'm currently slotting the proc. So yeah, your observation is important enough that I should include it in the first post unambiguously. Including secondaries feels prohibitively daunting for now. Consolidating this data burned me out 🤷♂️ -

Me too! Updating my spreadsheet for that will take some noodle-scratching. I'm starting to feel like I jumped into the deep end of the pool with my boots on. 🙂 -

Thanks for linking that thread. I literally searched multiple ways to find similar topics, yet this one never showed up. I'll brush up my Search-Fu. Going to update my tables with this important feedback as soon as I have the mental capacity*, but at least they already help identify what powers should be considered for the ATO. Deeply appreciate the help! *Tables updated -
...is not knowing what power to place it. I’d like to help in this quick guide. The goal with the tables below isn't to say "Slot your Critical Strikes HERE!". This is simply to make where you decide to slot your ATO an informed decision. What the Critical Strikes Proc Does When you fire off the power you slot it in, there's a chance to activate a brief window of time where each following attack scores a critical hit. What to Consider For a power to be a good candidate for this proc you'll want a high chance of it going off, and/or a large Crit Window. Note that while an AoE might only have a 40% chance of activating, more targets mean more 40% attempts at once. Explaining the Crit Window When the Critical Strikes enhancement goes off, you will have 3.25 4.25 seconds of guaranteed crits. So consider slotting this in a power where the effect activates as close to the end of the power’s animation as possible. By subtracting a power’s (A)Time Before Effect from (A)Cast Time, you’ll find how much time you have to wait before using your next attack. Subtract that number from the 4.25 seconds of Critical Strikes’ duration, and you'll find that power's "Crit Window". (A) means the seconds listed are adjusted for Arcanatime! Crit Windows have been calculated in the attached a tables for each Scrapper primary. They are sorted by largest Crit Window, so the top 2 or 3 powers in each set will probably be good candidates to slot this ATO (within reason, there's a good argument for putting it in AoE powers that don't necessarily have a large Crit Window) Battle Axe Broad Sword Claws Dark Melee Dual Blades Electrical Melee Energy Melee Fiery Melee Ice Melee Katana Kinetic Melee Martial Arts Psionic Melee Radiation Melee Savage Melee Spines Staff Fighting Stone Melee Street Justice Titan Weapons (Momentum excluded until my patience returns) War Mace Now that you know which powers will give you the most time out of Critical Strikes, it’s time to discover what attack chain you can use in that Crit Window. To calculate this, add the (A)Cast Time for every power but the last in your chain - that number should be the (A)Time Before Effect. Because no attacks follow this one, there is no need to account for it’s entire animation time. Examples: A two-power chain formula would be: (A)Cast Time for Power 1+ (A)Time Before Effect for Power 2. A three-power chain would be: (A)Cast Time for Power 1+ (A)Cast Time for Power 2+ (A)Time Before Effect on Power 3. If that total is less than the Crit Window, then your post-proc attack chain is likely maximizing the benefit of the Critical Strikes ATO! Adjust to DPS tastes, and you're golden.* *As Yomo Kimyata pointed out, don't be discouraged from slotting into an AoE, even if its Crit Window is small. Hitting multiple targets gives your proc another chance of activating. Even if you can only toss out one attack during your Crit Window, you could potentially have a lot more windows. More knowledgeable folks, feel free to chime in and correct me on any gaps or misconceptions. This little project started simply because I wanted to find the best place for the ATO on my Broadsword wielder. Then I realized this information would be really helpful organized like this. Enjoy! Edit: @Maelwys, I hope I used your feedback correctly. Frankly, I made these tables because all of this is deeply confusing for me. Gonna keep trying... Edit 2: @Yomo Kimyata noted that these tables don't tell the whole story because AoE's can be a good place for Critical Strikes. Edit 3: Effect Area added to tables. Proc percentages also added per @DarknessEternal's suggestion.

We gotta know your secondary powerset to have any clue if this is possible. Your current build would probably help even more, but sets will help a whole lot. To answer your question, I'm going with a very confidently solid "maybe".

Oh that magical moment when your Kheldian unlocks Dwarf! Suddenly getting to toggle on more sturdiness and mez protection changes every strategy used prior to this power. It feels as good as the best T9 primaries without nearly as long of a wait to unlock. White & Black Dwarf change everything.

Just a disclaimer: I'm not a Mastermind expert. I didn't used to like them. Then I started slotting endurance reducers in the pets. Here's my guess at what's happening: Pets don't actively consume your stamina, but your attacks are very costly. You have to fill in the gaps with expensive powers when your pets' DPS slows. Their DPS has slowed because they are low on endurance. Then they eat up their blue bar firing off their low-tier attacks, and don't fire off their heavy-hitters nearly as much. Slotting the pets with endredux will help because they'll be able to cycle more (and better) attacks, freeing you from taxing your own stamina bar so much.

A controversial topic: is it time to make all items free?
The Trouble replied to Yomo Kimyata's topic in The Market
Well guys, the meme clearly shows who the badguys are, so battlewraith has apparently won. 🤷♂️ My condolences to those that defended the notion that loot drops are rewards for playing the game, and for anyone that incorrectly believes that playing the market is fun. Anyway, I'm going to watch the end credits of my gaming backlog on YouTube so I can feel the exact same satisfaction as beating them. -
If I find myself frustrated by the behavior in a thread, I stop reading it. Which stinks because some opposing opinions are stated so well that I find great interest in their reasoning. Then some folks show up with thoughts on this game so strong that they fire off posts with the heat of religious rage, and every attempt at actual discussion gets ruined.

I have a petless Mastermind that I only level from street sweeping - no missions, task forces, or trials. I can only equip enhancements I find. Not doing the Ironman/Hardcore thing because my insanity has a limit. It's fun in a completely ridiculous way. The other challenge that I'm utterly failing at is to have no more than 50 characters on my primary server.

Yes! I've done this twice, and both times the switch ended up feeling right. I had Plant/Storm Controller modeled after a Leshy that I played all the way into the mid thirties before the concept didn't excite me anymore. I also had a Plant/Fire Dominator wizard who's concept I loved, but the archetype and powerset combo (while very powerful) left me bored. I slapped this Dominator's costume, concept, and name onto the Controller, and that endurance burning bastard became a favorite. I made a vampire: A Savage/Darkness Brute. Before long, those powers didn't fit the personality I imagined my vampire having. So a Dual Blades/Energy Stalker with a thick layer of dust inherited the vampire's persona, and once again my excitement for the character surged and stayed high. I think the best characters deserve to be fun. If you have to 'retcon' to get them there, then do it. You can even incorporate the change into their backstory with some creative thinking. I fully embrace the "Concept is King" mantra, and I have two Kinetic Melee characters to prove it.

A controversial topic: is it time to make all items free?
The Trouble replied to Yomo Kimyata's topic in The Market
Pro: Players could instantly fully realize their build concepts. Con: Players could instantly fully realize their build concepts. Like others have stated here, I also no longer hoard inf. I just make money when I need it. But I find the process fun. To remove marketing entirely would reduce the amount of activities in this game that I enjoy. To me, this suggestion is similar to - "Some people find making costumes tedious. Is it time to have the game assign locked-in costumes?" I don't want to see an entirely optional component of the game broken because a vocal minority dislikes it. -

I won't repeat the weirdo I posted in the other thread because I made a different kind of monster Blaster. I made him Psy/Energy with the initial goal of being a "Blapper". But here's the thing... Psy has extremely long-ranged blasts, and Energy has Boost Range. As soon as I got Boost Range, I knew I had to see how it paired with the sniper power, Psionic Lance. Well? I one-shotted a guy from orbit (only way to be sure). His group went aggro. Even though I didn't move an inch, that group gave up the chase simply because I was too far away. He also has softcapped defense to Smashing, Lethal, Energy, Negative Energy, and Ranged attacks. I sacrificed Resistances, and a little bit of damage to get there, but I can't say I've noticed the compromise. All I know is there is no distance, near or far, where the enemy is safe from becoming a glowing pile of viscera.

About the relative difficulty of fights in this game vs. others
The Trouble replied to temnix's topic in General Discussion
I'm getting a weird vibe from certain posters that seem to be trying to convince us that this is a Bad Game(TM) and we're wrong to like it. I'm reminded of the necessary phase of teens and young adults that vehemently, angrily, reject everything they enjoyed as a kid to substantiate their adult-ness. I'm all for criticism, but aggressive negativity doesn't encourage a meaningful dialogue. Backhanded bad attitudes poisoned the refreshing positivity thread @Scarlet Shocker attempted. Please stick around and interact with the community you've become a part of, but a vitriolic dislike for the game isn't a constructive way to connect with that community. It's a bit strange to show up at comics convention to preach how silly you find the hobby. I really like this casual MMO that heavily emphasizes my own creativity. I also like: Dark Souls 1 & Elden Ring Dead Cells Noita Project Zomboid Baba is You All of those games test my limits in different and satisfying ways. I play those games when I want that sensation. I play City of Heroes when I want City of Heroes. I agree with the rising sentiment that Controllers have a marginalized place in a lot of endgame content. I think that Brutes and Kheldians are also in a nebulous place. I'm willing to talk about their shortcomings, but I would get nowhere if I opened with "These classes are stupid and useless, and their design is irredeemably flawed. Anyone who likes them is a complete moron." -

EQ @ level 1: A rat kills you after a harrowing 3 minute fight. CoH in the tutorial mission: Beat down multiple minions in about a minute. Both of these scenarios can be fun, but guess which game I'm still playing? -
If Your Characters had a Patron Pool...
The Trouble replied to Sakura Tenshi's topic in General Discussion
My main will always be a Peacebringer. I guess that would generally mean he would grant powers like a Peacebringer, but I decided against powers that would overlap with his. Cosmic Boost (Power Boost) Sunspear (Snipe) Blinding Pulsar (Ranged Cone -ToHit & mid/low Magnitude Hold) Quantum Entanglement (slight -Res + Enemies around this target take a portion of their damage) Lightspeed (10% auto-hasten) I'm okay if this is considered overpowered. I means I'd get more patrons 😁
