  1. There's at least as much point as there is to costumes, free tailor sessions, power customization, and 95% or so of badges. Even if they don't do anything useful, they're fun.
  2. This seems to me like a carryover from other, older RPGs where kill-stealing really was a major issue. Thus it became taboo, and now it's really an etiquette thing. Technically burping loudly doesn't hurt anyone, but it's still considered inappropriate in many situations. That said, this is yet another example of a "CoH isn't most MMOs" situation. Explaining that kill-stealing isn't a big deal (and really, it's not) is like explaining that we don't have "healers" or that a team is perfectly capable of doing an entire task force without a tank. OP: There are things that irritate me, too. People who call their characters "toons" should be kicked off chat as far as I'm concerned. You know what I do when someone does that? Nothing. Because it's ultimately totally inconsequential. This is a game. It's supposed to be fun. Unclench, dude.
  3. Assuming this works the same way the old ones did: ParagonWiki Link! Short version: If you're under level 50, you get double reward merits and "approximately half a level" of bonus XP. If you're level 50 and an Incarnate, you get double reward merits and a Notice of the Well. Rewards can be earned once per week (per character, I think, rather than per account). Completing the Strike Target again during that same week awards progress toward one of several badges.
  4. Rogues/vigs can participate in missions on the "other side," but can't initiate them (since they don't have contacts there. Also, certain things such as the trials accessed via the LFG teleporter (Death from Below and Drowning in Blood) still see rogues as villains and vigs as heroes, so they won't allow them to join "enemy" versions of those trials. The reason to stick with a "true" hero/villain alignment comes in the rewards for doing morality missions and "reinforcing" your alignment -- if a villain does a rogue morality mission, they become a rogue and get to do hero stuff, but if they do a villain morality mission, they earn villain merits that can be used to purchase all kinds of cool stuff. Here's ParagonWiki's page on alignments, it does into more detail: https://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Alignment Or that's how it was originally, anyway; I'm not 100% sure how the hero/villain merits stuff works currently since a lot of stuff is free now that didn't used to be.
  5. Everlasting, actually. A few of us were lobbying for Excelsior, but it was runner-up.
  6. Suggestion: Let's designate an official unofficial villains server. Encourage everyone to put their villains in one place so they can all team together. I nominate Indomitable, since it's already the official unofficial PvP server so it's the one most in need of villains.
  7. I was able to do a DFB trial this morning, right after the server reboot. I didn't experience any of the issues reported here. Either the problem has been fixed, or it's intermittent.
  8. I finally got one to work this morning, right after the server reboot. Only four people, but it went fine -- none of the issues others have reported. Just need to get the word out that it exists now!
  9. I know it might have technically not needed City of Heroes to run when it was released, but let's face it, folks: City of Villains was never anything more than an expansion to the real game. This is exactly why I never started with the whole "CoX" thing -- The game is CoH, everything else is an add-on.
  10. I get that there are reasons it might not be working, intentionally or otherwise, but what I'm really trying to figure out here is just a simple is it/is it not. I mean, if the system as a whole is down, that affects Incarnate trials as well, so it's important information one way or another. HOWEVER... I started a similar thread to this in one of the CoH Facebook groups, and one respondent claims to have done a DFB trial recently. I'm going to try to confirm after work tonight, but it looks like this might be a case of a playerbase ignorant to the existence of the feature rather than an inability to use it at all. I'll update later on with my findings.
  11. I've been trying for a while to find an answer, but nobody seems to know: Is the LFG tab/queueing system for trials like Death from Below and Incarnate content actually working? Nobody seems to be using it. Is that because it's broken, or because people just don't know it's there? For those that don't know -- it came about pretty late in the game's original lifespan -- you click the "LFG" tab at the top of your chat window (I'm not talking about the "Team" tab's feature that lets you flag yourself as looking for a group; click the tab that literally says "LFG"). You'll see a list of available events. At level 1, that's Death from Below, the "new" sewer run. The better sewer run. The quicker, more effective, more interesting sewer run with better rewards. The one that, by the game's end, had made the traditional sewer run something people only did for nostalgia/novelty. There's another, mid-level trial that's similar. It's also how you enter Incarnate trials, as well as holiday events and similar limited-time content. You queue up, then you go about your business beating up Hellions or whatever. Once there are enough people for a team, you get a pop-up letting you know the event is about to start. Click it and viola -- you're doing the event! Assuming that isn't broken at the moment. Which I can't verify. Either it's not working, or I'm the only one using it. Can someone confirm one way or another?
  12. I think this is a great idea, and something I would participate in often.
  13. I like the idea of it being Excelsior. The name just... works. (This has nothing to do with that being my main server right now, I swear.)
  14. I don't know that I'd say a game that was actively supported for eight years -- and was profitable the entire time -- "failed." Not in the US, anyway; you could definitely argue that the Korean launch failed. In general, though, it was more successful than most MMOs. Calling CoH a failure because it didn't have playerbase or longevity of WoW is like calling The Empire Strikes Back a failure because it didn't have as big an opening weekend as The Force Awakens.
  15. The "epic" archetypes are the exceptions -- you still can't start as a villainous Kheldian or a heroic Arachnos operative. You *can* switch sides after the fact, though.

Knockback is *why* it's the best.
  17. I don't know. Added to the list!
  18. They're tricky. If even ONE enemy from the "robbery team" gets by you (and it's easy to miss one), you'll fail as soon as he leaves the map. Sounds to me like a minion slipped through the net.
  19. The game is playable again! That's awesome. Amazing. Seriously, it's incredible; you have no idea how happy it makes me. Of course, not everything is functioning. a lot of non-critical sub-systems don't seem to be working at the moment. Please note I am ABSOLUTELY NOT COMPLAINING about any of this, just asking for informative purposes: What's still down? What's "down-down" and what's "down right now"? - Wentworth's/Black Market? (My understanding is that this is down for the foreseeable future as it needs its own server/shard to work.) - LFG queue/Death From Below? (Seems to be down based on the couple of times I tried it and all the old-school sewer runs people are doing.) - Architect missions: WORKING per jenosyde - PvP zones? - Arena PvP? - Mayhem/Safeguard missions: WORKING per Radionuclide - Incarnate zone(s)? - Incarnate trials? - Incarnate powers/rewards/pets/etc? - Oroborous? (I've seen a few mentions in chat of this being down, but haven't had a chace to try it out myself.) - Inventions/crafting: WORKING per jenosyde - Zone events like Rikti invations, zombie uprisings, giant monster attacks, etc: WORKING per jenosyde - Alignments/side-switching? - That Science Booster ability where we could have different costumes for the same character use different body types (Bruce Banner/Hulk)? - Character renaming: WORKING per jenosyde - Signature story arcs ("Who Will Die?")? - Hamidon/Rikti ship raids? - Supergroup bases? Anything else I'm forgetting? Can anyone confirm whether some/all these are working or not?
  20. As I understand it, the markets require a separate server (or at least shard) to function. I'd expect it to be a while.
  21. A redname posting about server maintenance, with an estimated downtime and everything. Feels like home.
  22. You could always send a /tell (or an in-game email -- is that functioning?) to that name and see if the owner would be willing to give it up. There's a chance they grabbed it on a whim and aren't terribly attached to it yet. /getglobalname Silverback (I think that's the command, anyway; it's been a while) would be even better.
  23. I started on Victory, then eventually migrated over to Virtue and was there for the last... five or so(?) years of the game's original lifespan. I rolled with the American Legion supergroup most of the time. My global was @Doctor Roswell.
