  1. I think I've got it, folks. It's very different from (most of) your suggestions, but you all helped me out a ton. Elements of all of the ideas presented ended up coming together into something I'm really thrilled with. This thread got me thinking in ways I wasn't before, then I sort of rubber duck-ed myself the rest of the way there. It doesn't look like street clothes! It looks magic-y! It still looks like the same character I've been playing for years, just with a fresh design! It looks like someone who could hurt you really badly, but only if you gave her a reason to! The Valkyrie shoulder pads do what I was hoping they would: provide a bit of color to the upper arms the same way the Barbarian Ring did, while also adding mass like the Smooth shoulders -- with the extra bonus of looking like it's actually muscle she can use to punch bad guys really, really hard. Roman chest plate + pattern on skin (Belly Tee Long, but with the colors reversed, if you're wondering) = torso I like without exposed sides. Seeing how much better sunglasses looked than the blank face made me realize how much I hated that face and wanted to cover it, and talking about ornaments and adornments got me thinking about the Carnival masks, which it turns out look great with the metal skin. And then I discovered just playing around on my own that the side panels on Imperial Dynasty legs look like steel covered by some kind of sheer fabric that dulls the shine, and that means more skin without more skin. Thanks to everyone, I really appreciate it!
  2. Looks great -- glad I could help! Man, that hood/ears combo is fantastic, @biostem. I'm kind of jealous I didn't think of it.
  3. A quick stab at this before work. I went with more of a "jungle queen" approach. Hope it helps! Fur makes sense, I think. Monstrous hands imply the "shapeshifter" part by making her look a little more savage. Glam hair because it's the biggest, wildest style. I've used the Carnival head detail as "leaves" to great effect on my own characters and tried it here too, but wasn't happy with the way it clips through the hair until I added the Vines facial pattern, which kind of makes it look like she's caught mid-shapeshift? Blast legs pattern for the same reason -- like it's "pulling back" from her to reveal a human underneath. Colors may need a little tweaking. menagerie.costume
  4. I've tried similar looks to this before, for whatever reason they didn't sing for me. Maybe it's the horizontal lines on the top? I've never been a fan of that particular piece, especially on a female torso. The other one I like better, but it has those open sides and only tends to look good over other "clothing" rather than "skin." But I kinda love the Barbarian Ring on the upper arms, there's something there I think. It subtly bulks her up a bit, implies more strength. I had her in that same shirt for a while on live! I actually really like the way the side panels on it flow with the pattern on the pants, and I'm a big fan of the way the belt's lines interact with the pants too. Even if I don't end up using that combo for Eve, I'm going to tuck it away and use it for something. Boy, those glasses look better than the eyes on the Metallic face, don't they? I've never loved that face. I wish that new "Metallic 2" texture without the robot-lines had been ported over to female characters too. Also, the shoulder pads. I like. Same as above, these make her look more powerful in the upper body. It's a shame there's such a stark separation from the shoulders themselves; the texture could simulate metal skin with the right coloring, look like it's a part of her rather than something she's wearing. Actually, now that I think about it, the Valkyrie 3(?) shoulders could do the same, with the trim/edges providing a nice accent similar to what Cutter's use of the Barbarian piece did. I'll play with that. More sunglasses! Yeah, I should definitely do something about that face, the blank version makes her look like a robot. The shades help that. They add a lot of personality. I've used that same smoke trick on another character when I needed a grizzled old soldier with an eye patch chomping on a cigar. It's subtle, but it really adds a neat effect. The use of a pattern on the "skin" under the "clothing" elements is here nice -- again, that pattern in particular with the bicep rings is a good look (I keep coming back to that same general place, there's definitely some potential in it). In fact, now that I think about it, maybe there's a way to get past that problem with the open sides on the Roman chest plate after all.... I've tried it, and every time it's something I want to like more than something I actually do like. I think the problem is that it only covers the upper torso, leaving the midriff area exposed. That isn't terrible per se, but without being able to use it with a jacket/robe/whatever to make it look less like a really elaborate bra/bikini top, it doesn't really do what I want it to. The piece looks great over tights or other costume-costumes, but over "skin" it just creates that "near naked" look I'm trying to avoid. Basically if I color it like her body she's nude, if I color it like her clothes she's fighting crime in a fancy tube top. The rivets and bands -- any adornments, really -- aren't necessarily a bad thing, though, and might even help with the "magic" aspect. I really appreciate the help, everyone! You're getting wheels turning, thank you!
  5. This is Adamant Eve. She's one of my favorite alts, and I have a lot of alts. The first of only two (so far) of my 50s from live that I've taken all the way to 50 again on Homecoming. As one might imagine, she's an Invulnerability/Super Strength tanker, sort of in the vein of Colossus from the X-Men powers-wise. She's magic-origin, though I've never really come up with a backstory more specific than that. I feel like "magic" in her case is a power source rather than a skill, so more Wonder Woman or Moon Knight than Doctor Strange or Zatanna. I've tweaked her look from time to time over the years, but from day one it's been basically what you see here: silver metal "skin" and blue-gray clothes over the top with gold accents. And it's... fine, I guess? But it's not exciting to me. I'm not really a fan of the whole "street clothes as a superhero costume" approach in general, but unfortunately, it's where I keep landing with her, mostly because I want to be able to show off that she's made of metal (it's kinda her whole "thing") without having her run around nude or basically so -- applying a pattern over the metal just looks like it's painted directly on her body. So I've ended up using shirts, jackets, robes and other styles that sit above the main layer so I can put the Metallic pattern underneath. Trying to show off a lot of skin without showing too much skin is kind of a paradox, who knew? But maybe someone here can improve on this, solve the problem in a way I haven't considered. I'm open to changing pretty much anything about her design except for it being obvious at a glance that she's made of steel, and I'd very much prefer to steer clear of "titillating" and toward "badass." Looking more like a magic-powered superhero instead of a regular person who happens to be extra shiny wouldn't hurt either.
  6. Well, obviously it's not possible to recreate her exactly, but I think it's definitely viable to put together an "inspired by" costume. Various Organic Armor, Circle of Thorns and Overguard pieces all have potential for the look you're going for, and the Celestial chest detail even has a vaguely "Kryptonian house insignia" bit in the center. Something textured underneath the plates also helps to hide that pieces from different sets don't always have lines that jive with one another -- Olympian Guard is probably more movie-accurate but I like Chainmail to provide something more interesting in motion with the light reflecting off the links. In general I think Kryptonians would probably mostly have Invulnerability and/or Super Strength, though there's definitely room for some variation; in Faora's case I'd probably go with a brute.

  8. I mean, I don't *have* to slot Unbreakables; like I said, I'm still learning how to do this. Having just picked up Neutron Bomb, I think I agree with you; I'm not normally one to worry too much when other people complain about slow animations and whatnot (I love Kinetic Melee), but in this case... yeah, it takes way too long for what it gives me. Either way, I appreciate it! If nothing else, these give me a couple of good jumping-off points and both builds look significantly better than what I came up with.
  9. Released Alexander Hamidon, because haha funny joke, but I'm never going to actually play the character. Released King of Spades, because I already have Ace of Spades and that's one higher, like an amplifier that goes to 11. Released Smokewraith, because ehh. Released Unicorn Man, because there aren't any single-horn options in the character creator.
  10. Revised version. Totals are similar, but slot order makes more sense and everything is a little more focused. Changed to Fire Mastery instead of Electrical. I may have overbuilt for survivability. Resistances are pretty good, I think, but am I sacrificing performance elsewhere? 12. I made a build! A Radiation Blast/Electric Armor sentinel! My first from-the-ground-up build ever, in fact. I'm not under any illusions that it's good, but hopefully it's not terrible -- something that can be made good with a little assistance from some folks who actually know what they're doing, anyway. Basically I'm trying to end up with something that takes advantage of Rad's AoEs and debuffs, and spends a minimal amount of time unconscious and/or slowed and/or Endurance-less. So there are some odd choices in there, I know. The order slots are placed in is... weird. I'll work on it. Plus around the late 30s or so things got a little unfocused and my power-selection strategy became "I don't know, this one I guess," so there's probably a ton of room for improvement there. Any advice is appreciated. Hero Plan by Mids' Reborn : Hero Designer 2.7.2.10 https://github.com/Crytilis/mids-reborn-hero-designer Click this DataLink to open the build! 13. Purged my list of a bunch of characters I haven't played in forever and/or names I grabbed thinking "I'll figure something out later" and never did. 14. I'm okay with this. I never had a problem with the policy on live, and I still don't.t It's little sad I'll have to change my Spines brute Prickle Rick because I'm kinda proud of that one, but I'll live. Honestly, this might be a good sign -- maybe the "talks" are going well enough that a CYA policy is necessary where it wasn't before? EDIT: Oh, I see I'm not the only one thinking it.
  15. "Something else" like patron pools, which, while similar to ancillary/"epic" pools, are not in fact the same thing and are very much something Widows (and Arachnos Soldiers) have access to? https://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Patron_Power_Pools Because that's what this build is using....
  16. I am simultaneously extremely proud and deeply ashamed of having just created That's a Paladin.
  17. I didn't say that, in fact I specifically included an "or as long as the HC team cares to continue it" clause to avoid being misunderstood. That'll learn me. My point is that the last thing I want is for NCsoft or any other outside entity to be given the ability to easily "pull the plug remotely," so to speak. Obviously they can shut this whole thing down if they really want to, but I at least want them to have to fight to do it, rather than the players getting a few extra months and then saying "well, that was fun, but the agreement expired so I guess we'll pack it in." I'd rather force them to play whack-a-mole forever than just roll over for them because a year earlier someone made a deal to be nice to each other.
  18. The only thing that worries me about "going straight" is the fear that in the name of legitimacy we'll end up with some kind of licensing agreement... that has an expiration date, whether an explicit "and then on this date it ends and the servers shut down" or a de facto "and then on this date we'll renegotiate the terms (at which time NCsoft can always choose not to renew the agreement and pull the plug anyway but let's not worry about that right now because yay cooperation)." I want the game back permanently. Forever. Or at least as long as the Homecoming team and/or others care to continue operating servers. I don't want Paragon's fate to hang on whether some corporate big-shot in Korea is going to decide "twelve months is enough goodwill, let's go ahead and kill it again."
  19. As is the case with a lot of signature characters' costumes: Those characters weren't created using the same character editor players use. They aren't a collection of interchangeable parts. They are a single, complete character model. It's not a matter of just "releasing," say, the Honoree's helmet to players, because there's no "Honoree helmet" piece. There's the Honoree as a whole, and that's all. Allowing players to use that costume piece as a part in their own characters' costumes would involve creating an entirely new costume piece that looks like the one the Honoree has -- new geometry, new textures, new scaling, new everything.
  20. There's still a (smaller?) wave of Banished Pantheon ranting about the "overwhelming weight of your sins" or somesuch. A pretty straightforward fight, but a fight nonetheless.
  21. My first thought is... Carnies? They seem fun. More inclusive than a lot of the others, too.
