Dark Armor is fun but like others have said it has a KB hole and huge endurance management issue.

    That sounds like a challenge...

I bet it's possible to negate these problems with enhancements (don't ask me how, but I bet it's possible).

/regen was the original Scrapper-only secondary, and you don't see many people playing it anymore. I know some people think that turning IH into a click power ruined the set, but even after that it offered high performance. IIRC, @Werner's Kat/Regen was soloing AVs quite well for years.

I hate active defenses. I realise that in the years since this game we've had a push towards twitchy e-sports active defense gameplay such as guild wars 2, but I think it's bullshit and am looking forward to the death of this shitty trend. Will it disappear entirely? Not on your nelly, but I believe that an ageing gamerbase will should broaden the perspectives of developers and help them to embrace older players in a way that they've refused to do for too long now.

  3. I wonder how difficult it would be to provide players with the ability to make missions that seem more integrated into the game, rather than stuck in the AE. I mean, the content is there (obviously you should have some vetting procedure - I wouldn't want to be sent to a farm map by a contact).

  4. Hello there! Back on live I had a fire/dark scrappy that I quite enjoyed playing. People always said it had endurance problems, but some prudent toggle switching could mititgate them quite handily.

I'm wondering if anybody has a Fire/Dark build, please? Let's say that inf isn't a problem.

iii) keep it to myself, cackle madly as the money comes in and just have that much more of a pile to give to friends and those poor helpchan souls?

leaning toward iii, cuz i do love myself a good cackle.

    Yep.

Well since I slowed down the amount I play, I noticed that my niche dropped down to 1k for recipe.  Madness! Opportunities exist.

Also, the massive swing between US primetime and non-US primetime is VERY exploitable. Be patient and don't blink when they call your bluff.

Scorpion Shield incarnate caps you to Smashing, Lethal, and Energy (and are some toxic resists) which are the three most popular end game damage types.

In most trials and many SFs you will be catching aggro and splash damage. E shield is a huge boost to personal survivability.

If you solo or play an smaller teams with a dedicated tank, you probably don't need it.

I went Heat Mastery on my Necro/Dark for Bonfire (which is awesome for damage mitigation), and I built for extra Ranged defense to add on to all the  -To Hit he and the pets can stack. But I still miss Scorpion Shield's always-on protection, sometimes.

    Ah. That makes sense.

I have noticed a lot of builds are awful if you exemplar down; one tank build I'm working towards took taunt at level 49.

Okay we're off-topic here, but this is definitely a bugbear of mine. I really wonder what they're thinking... this game is ALL about the exemplaring down - why on earth would I take taunt near the end? It's not like I can just do level 50 content!

I think the graphical style as well as the slightly dated things like telephones and office equipment lend themselves well to the game. It makes it feel like its set in a very specific era in history for the world. Sort of a gritty late 90's vibe that would only work in this genre.

This! I love the 2000s. It really hits hard when you see CRT monitors. Holy shit moly!

I think they did an astonishing job of capturing the dreariness of this "real world" and "world of work", drudgery and routine that eats people's souls. The original textures make me think of boring, austere concrete eastern european soviet-era buildings.

In later years you get to see how (real) architects have worked hard to make city spaces and offices seem more friendly and organic, with sweeping arcs, open spaces and wood. The development of these (in-game) art pieces reflects what happened in reality. The game gives us an amazing snap shot of changing times, that we probably won't experience anywhere else. For that reason alone the game should be archived as a reflection of how our (real) world has changed.

  9. I find that I play this game underpowered most of the time and then become insanely OP once I redo my entire build at level 50. I'm interested in trying something different ...

I would like to build a character from level 1 with endgame enhancements (where possible - obviously you can't slot purples as they are level 50). So the notion is that when you get 2 slots at level 3 or whatever, you put attuned enhancements in them.

How feasible is this (assume I have infinite inf)?

    The reasons for doing this are;

    1. I want to feel like I've made a natural progression and not some enormous artificial BUMP once I hit 50.

    2. I want to get a taste of that level 50 OPness when I need it - i.e. while levelling,

Boosting purples gives you A LOT of advantage. Boosting a purple damage IO to +5 improves the bonus from 53% to 66.25%. With ED, you want as much bonus as possible.

Wha?!! I really dislike these not-secret secrets -this info should be in-your-face in-game, imho.

I need to go and get more hyphens....

  11. Ooh a Hyperstrike build, nice! Nom nom nom.... copying it now.

[edit] hmm... not sure about this one... the previous one I "borrowed" didn't use weapons at all and used the medic pool.

Ye... why do you need scorpion shield? That's some strange playstyle where you're tanking for the pets and not the other way around ... I guess it's soloer style?

Given the ... structure ... game mechanically speaking ... of how the Gun Drone operates, sticking a Taunt on it is just a "Kill Me Now!" declaration.

... or... "Hey! That drone is the most dangerous thing on the battlefield, take it out first!". It seems a neat way to add a little AI to a game in dire need of it.

It's a delicate balance, and a tightrope that the Devs walk in any kinds of change.  Because there are folks who love things just the way they are, and those that seek change.  With the exception of QoL changes which are typically received well by all, other changes to the game always have their fans, and detractors; both sides of which make their perspectives, and opinions known.  Just peruse the September 10 Patch Notes thread for a bit of a taste.

Just gotta remember, there are always two sides to darn near any topic of discussion, and often, they both have valid points.

The best response to this would be a tonne of challenging new content but without a huge studio to produce it, we're in a quandry! A veritable pickle, right? A jar of pickles... a truckload of pickles that has spilled onto the highway/freeway/motorway/autobahn and are being sqashed by all and sundry, oh the humanity!

On a note of some kind, we're supposed to be superheroes, so obliterating waves of minions SHOULD be easy peasy and commonplace, but then the BOSS should be challenging (but where do you draw the line between a bag of hitpoints and a stupid dancing raid-like fiasco?) - I've gone off topic. Oh I started off topic and then went more off topic. Amazing.

Hey, I remember seeing BillZBubba on the forums back in the day. Welcome back!

As Cix mentioned, it sounds like there are already some plans to make some changes to EM. What they would be is a guess right now, but hey, I'm just pumped they're taking a look at it.

You're certainly not alone on missing how well the set used to perform. Just check out the thread in my sig; there's dozens of us. DOZENS!!

    Ones, at the very least!

agency really is that important for writing in the context of a setting where the player is meant to have the authority to define their character.

I think the mission "engine" doesn't really give the devs much choice. Look at the architect.. have players been given loads of choice in the architect? Are we so smart that we've overcome the lack of choice inherent in the engine?

Perhaps the best thing they could do (could they?) is give us a choice of contact, and taking one contact, locks off one (or more) others. That would provide us with choice, I guess.

Remember that in doing so you get this "redundant content" issue which would be expensive in dev terms if this game wasn't so much about rolling a zillion alts.

Did anyone else do this? Come back after almost a decade, get given Twinshot as a contact, and start doing her missions without remembering that it's the absolute worst thing imaginable?

You got me, you little b****. You got me. It took so long for the memory to fade, but you got me once again. I finally rolled a new toon that clicked for me, started playing for the first time in forever, relived the magic, couldn't believe it wasn't nostalgia and the game is actually awesome andohnowaitit'sTwinshot'smissions.

Turn off the servers. We're done. Twinshot is still here. We'll boot it all back up in another five, see if she goes away or something.

Note: I played up to 'rescue Manticore', one of the doors glitched out and refused to open, then started banging my head on the desk and cursing the memory of Twinshot all over again.
Note note: Dillo is cool though. We can keep Dillo.

I don't know what you're on about. Twinshot's missions are some of the best in the game. Added late in the game's development, they actually knew what they were doing when they designed them, instead of all the grindy crap that constitutes the vast majority of the missions designed early in the game's life.
