Focused Feedback: Snipes and Dominator changes
Replacement replied to Leandro's topic in [Open Beta] Focused Feedback
Potential bug: Can someone confirm Trick Shot's bounce range? It appears to be drastically lower than on Live. EDIT: Made a bug report about this. -

They're separate? I was under the impression it was choosing animation based on current velocity (I thought fly was identical to hover until you accelerate to a high enough speed to hand-off to the flight animations). I'm probably wrong... -

Really like the new tuning for Martial Assault! It's a bit sad to see Envenomed Blades brought in-line, but this simple change (and it's really a nerf) frees up tons of room in MA's design space. This creates room in the set for not just the changes listed in today's patch notes, but for additional buffs down the road if it's ever found to be underperforming. Good approach, bravo. Now, you just need to add Burst of Speed as an alternate t8 to Caltrops and my dominator will be complete... Also, glad you listened to lobster's feedback from very early in this thread on the topic of the offensive auras. -
I get that some people's OCDs are set off by having a bar pop up that you didn't put there, but there are medications for that. Let's brainstorm more things we could use the temp bar for! If you are unsure of what I'm talking about: there is a conditional power tray that can appear. Most famously, Translocate appears here when Mystic Flight is active. Powers associated with new HEAT forms (from what I understand, I actually haven't played one in 12 years) Some zone location triggers, such as standing in Adamaster's area or in the Lighted/Shadowed paths in First/Night Ward. Proposed things we could reuse this for! The move speed bonus attached to Speed Boost, instead of relying on Null the Gull. Enable/disable the hover window after a Teleport That's actually about all I've thought up so far Any thoughts, particularly on the Speed Boost thing? Ideal behavior would be to default to "select with bar" and Null the Gull is instead used to rotate between always-grant, never-grant, and select with bar. Any other neat things you would like to see shifted to the temp bar? EDIT: I could imagine an entire "infusion"-based Support set (representing alchemists, tinkerers, potion-brewers, etc) that revolves around granting people powers that appear in the temp tray, but that sounds exhausting to even think about.

Just going to toss this out there: Mass Effect 2 and 3 took a shortcut where they said "our invisible person is so sneaky and quick you didn't see them get over there" with moves that are mechanically teleports, but thematically fast/undetected movement (the rogue character with a sword in 2, and the ME3 multiplayer character based on her). -

I think the bounce limit increase paired with the lowered target maximum is what's pushing me more to this conclusion. I have a feeling this was the original devs' intent in ignoring design goals for the melee cone and having the low bounce count. Subtle ways to lean towards melee. -

Could always move Phase Shift to t1 and tweak it into a proper travel power (floaty jumps and enhanced run speed representing your ghostly form). No matter which way you go, I always arrive at the same thought: the Stealth pool really only has enough to support 4 powers instead of 5. Moving Phase Shift down would make sense, but would invalidate invisibility. Combining the best of Concealment and Invisibility makes sense, but also leaves a gap. If you are capped on Cottage Resistance, there's a lot you can do to improve the pool's fun and usefulness. If I assume breaking the cottage is off the table, though, I'll pivot topic and note that I like the idea of OAS on Invisibility. I would go so far as to say that's the only thing currently swaying me towards taking Invisibility seriously. I'd rather have to deactivate invis in combat than remember my offensive toggles and still need to remember to turn off invis because it's hogging endurance. -

Disagree ...grudgingly agree. (Note, I still vote for fixing broke things. The garbage is still hilarious). -

Correct. I am an idiot that missed the word "Mac." -

Two power picks, probably. My point was: no one uses the set outside of theme and perhaps some very particular builds (I feel like Traps folk used to take it a lot for toe-bombing?) That's enough reason to buff it. -

Indeed, and so it's no surprise that Homecoming is looking to base it off of what's already working very well for Stalkers: fast strike in-combat, long CD when out of combat (instead tied to Hidden). No sacred cows were hurt in this change. -

Restart Tequila and look to the left. You'll see it there. -- I fired up the 64bit, I didn't notice any problems. What are some good ways I can test this? I'd like to help put this through its paces, kind of drawing a blank on how best to do that short of a community event. -

Thanks. I clearly need to start giving it more love (and enhancement slots) on Live before this hits... -

What are you talking about? What have they changed from its unique flavor? 5 seconds is still a year in CoH time. And the huge Defiance bonus was an apology for an unusable power. I urge you to look here for your Defiance-exploiting damage: -

I'd still rather slot one of those in Sprint and be "mostly invisible" than waste a few power picks. -

I'm not a Devices player, so I'm really not qualified, buuuuuuuuuuut I harbor a small concern that this will change how devices is played. I'd really like to hear from folks who've played Live Devices and Beta, and know how the set feels now. About the Stealth pool stuff -- I'm glad to see this getting some love. This is a good start, but I really think this pool needs some minor cottage-wrecking (like trading out Stealth for Invisibility and adding something useful in that third spot). Still, at this time I just want to thank you for noticing this is a crap pool that needs attention. -
Focused Feedback: Snipes and Dominator changes

@Leandro I feel like you should split this topic into 2. Snipes and Dominator Assault changes are going to be the two hottest points of contention. This thread is going to get ugly if it stays one thread to discuss them both. -
Focused Feedback: Snipes and Dominator changes
Replacement replied to Leandro's topic in [Open Beta] Focused Feedback
Snipes I really like this direction for the Sniping changes. I think it's important for people to understand that a) Current insta-snipe changes were never live. Nothing says they belong. b) They, in fact, don't belong. If you have the esoteric knowledge to make it perma, you're enjoying an attack that performs far outside the design specs. c) Very, very, very few people have the knowledge to get to use these powers. They're simply traps for everyone else. Dominator changes I enjoy the general trend of +Recharge in exchange for +damage -- I find I have too many options with dominators. Beefs: I strongly urge you to reconsider this. If you want to retune it a bit, cool. But it should be a thing that gives a lot of accuracy and, most importantly, a perception buff. This is the heart and soul of this ability. Don't normalize away what makes it interesting. The one dominator I've felt like I actually enjoy is the only one you guys are intent on nerfing. Which is fine, but I have to ask: what's the thought process on this change? Is this bringing it in-line with other Dominator t2s? Being a t2 ST attack, this is already a hard sell for power pick. Giving it a faster-than-I'll-ever-need recharge and lowering damage isn't going to do it any favors. -
How to earn Inf for your lvl 15 DOs and 25 common IOs

I'm asking if there's some mechanism I'm unaware of, or if you're talking about buying cheap salvage and NPCing it, or some other mechanism. I don't know what "trade common salvage" means. -

Make the early game fun: Remove TOs/DOs.
Replacement replied to kenlon's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
This thread feels hostile but... well, here I go... I think maybe part of what's missing from the OP is the idea of replacing the lower level enhancements with SOs. Meaning we could, for example, buy level 5 SOs from the trainers flanking Ms. Liberty. So "just ignore them" isn't the answer -- you're missing the point. It's a neat idea. DFB enhancements shows us the game doesn't break when you're given low-level SOs. I'd still suggest something like: Level 5 and 10 DOs Level 15+ SOs. I really really like this notion because a) I hate accuracy 16+ b) I hate investing the time into collecting/crafting IOs (I do not possess a Farm character to send myself money, so no more than a 500k budget) until I'm sure I like a character, which tends to be around level 24 or so. Finally, I'd love to see a tweak to the enhancement price formula to make lower-level enhancements cheaper. They're going to be outclassed by IOs anyway. Why should they be the same price? -
I have a weird "always on" job where I'm always working, a lot of it is reactive, but it's never an emergency. So I do this about 14 hours/day and don't even feel bad about playing CoH for several hours about 1-2 days each week. EDIT: I posted that as I laid down to take a nap. Welp! Back to work!

I understand this treads close to Ad Hominem territory but I gotta be honest, here: If you don't regularly play Stone Armor and love it, I really don't want to hear your opinion on why it shouldn't be improved. If it were a known, well-performing set, I'd feel differently and I'd be willing to bring more nuanced logic to the table. That's not the case, here. You're just being difficult for no reason. This is part of their charm. They're intended to show a minimum viable product. An absolute starting point for people who haven't begun to absorb the burden of knowledge of the game. It would be most-excellent if someone else would start a series of intermediate builds that assume you do not have an influence sugar daddy and only a single handful of unique/global/set IOs.

Melee/Support AT Concept: Interceptor
Replacement replied to Leogunner's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Interesting stuff. Thanks for the shout-out. I have to say, I wasn't keen on the unspecialized nature of it all at first-blush, but I'm glad I read through it. You did a really sharp job of making sure the "true" supports cannot be outclassed while creating a unique playstyle. The biggest concern I have is seeing a lot of armor stuff compressed down to very few powers. The storm flux, for example, has all the resist options of electric, collects all their mez protections in 1 power (though I forgive this -- Grounded is stupid), and they get a strong defensive debuff aura. And this is the core of where I don't really feel great about this: my instinct is "keep it, but make sure the numbers are low." But that flies in the face of intending it to be capable of pocket-tanking. I'm not really asking for this to be addressed. This is just a sort of stream-of-consciousness "I realize you need these for it to fill its role but it still concerns me." Other points: Full Force should come from activating your secondary powers as well. Hell, there's a good argument it should only come from using secondary powers, or lowering the base % per stack and having secondary actions provide bonus stacks. This would shift its focus more to making up lost ground from giving up DPS to help the party. Anecdote: I play FFXI with my brother (or did until CoH cast Howling Twilight on itself), and he loves to melee on his Red Mage. He has a very hard conundrum to solve: Proving to others that his DPS is actually really good, but having to intentionally limit his DPS to actually take care of the party. it's a crappy feeling. So shifting the passive to incentivizing their unique playstyle seems important, to me. The last thing I want is Interceptors pretending they're Brutes, with meta mandates to only take the secondaries you don't need mid-fight. I realize this would mean less to some secondaries than others. There's strong precedent for that. But it definitely pushes me more towards "bonus stacks for secondary actions." Your last post says Infiltrator. We could use one of those, too (#CottageStalker), but I think that's a typo. Redraw sucks. I would focus on bringing the weapon sets last, just because the disruption is so much higher for this sort of combination. Lamentation: You reused a lot of existing powers, which is really good for reducing complexity, but this is still a tall order to implement.
