My favorite scrapper is dark melee / shield defense. It has outstanding damage and is very survivable.

I also have a war mace / shield defense scrapper. It does pretty good damage too, but isn’t as survivable.  If I don’t have a good soul drain going on dark melee war mace has better damage, but with a good soul drain dark melee is better.

Yeah with max stack soul drain "push" Dark mélée at Top 2 ST dps (assuming heavy recharge build, at 275%)

I enjoy Shield / DM a lot with my tanker : 16 targets on shadow maul is so sexy, powered by AAO and SD, i love fighting Romulus near the door 😄

i saw your "journey" with your wm bio, yeah WM hit almost twice harder than kat but DDR is terrible 😛

i can farm fire farm +4x8 with this regular build, maybe it could help you : it's my X23 claws bio build so maybe WM can fit in.

Just saw this exact issue with my mace/bio scrapper in an ITF. -50% defense is a very bad thing.

@Papaschtroumpf DDR is what makes super reflexes so damn glorious. Defense Debuff Resistance. With it, defense is useful ALL the time. Without it, defense is useful for a couple incoming hits when they have defense debuffs.

Barrier T4 core used as "DDR panic button" on a S/L and mélée cap Bio scrapper + shadow meld (25ish sec of CD on a very heavy recharge build).

Afterburner and / or kinetic dampener can be usefull too 🙂

but Bio scrappers are the king of low notoriety speedrun, they re Lightweight world champions 😛

Your rad² tanker looks amazing and in any other games i would say it's the best road for a tank : cause in "holy trinity" games, there are no endgame content "solo tankable" without extreme supports. Here in CoX, if we look at optimal team builds instead just player builds, IMHO, even offensive tankers are not sure to make the draft : when i see my old SCRAPPER "team tanker build" who down a pylon in an average 80 seconds with a full area rotation and confront fully sloted and that we did all the MO tf in +4 with no tanker or brutes... The only moment we took something else for tanking was for trials and it was some brutes for ST punchvoke with optimal ST dps : the plethora of buff / debuff / incarnates makes any brute immortal so why not using the better solution ? Variety of gameplay is cool, of course and it's the good side of CoX, cause in any examples i gave, a defensive immortal tanker could have been used too, and, i m sure, with great success.

Between Barrier T4, Shadow meld, DNA, Ablating and Parasitive, this scrapper is able (still quite challenging) to farm FIRE farm in +4x8...

    Have fun 🙂

EDIT : Ho i forgot, Dual blades with BF / Attack vitals rotation is the only Mélée attack set able to use so few powers to have a top dps attacks chain for Single target and average good Multi target (Attack vital Dmg over time being applied on all the targets sweeping strike hit every 3,07 seconds), making of it, imho, one of the strongest AT of the game by allowing us to use tons of powers and slots for survival.

This is certainly possible.  Ive not tested FA against Bio if both ignore survival for damage - I find in general play, I have to build more survival into Fire Armor than I do into Bio to reach my own personal survival goals - leaving Bio more headroom to leverage for offense.  I suppose it comes down to whether Bios multiplier effects (though it does have some linesr damage addition) are outperformed by Fires very large linear damage bonus (though we must respect firey embrace as a second build-up style effect)

Given the synergy of fiery embrace with fire melee, and fire melees overall place as a very solid damage set, Im frankly surprised that fire/fire does not hold pride of place at the top - arguably it *should* in terms of justice, but likely the extreme value of TW coupled with the multiplier effects of Bio are what swamps it.  If TW gets detuned, and maybe GFS gets its soul destroying animation looked at, this may change.

Running both TW bio and TW fiery with old friends, it means we always have a good kin with enough buff (crab and or cold buff/debuff) to allow any scrappers to "tank" : the result is RSF in less than 16 minutes being a standard.

In those quite optimal conditions, i can just certify that both Rend armor / Bio and Rend armor / Fiery can one shot bosses, i just FEEL Fiery armor can one shot "more" 😄

when each AV died in less than 1 minute, Fiery embrace on any AT at cap damage win the "stupid burst" award of the decade.

  7. 23 hours ago, BrandX said:

Is there a list of top Melee DPS?

If by Mélée, you think : AT with mélée attacks, IMHO, at the moment, the most usefull and violent toon could be a Crab with pets, Venom grenade / Shatter armor for top instant spam of debuf resistance + frag grenade for FF recharge sustain under musculature core / ageless core / Reactive dots

  8. 21 hours ago, marcussmythe said:

Individual variations will swamp most differences between specific powersets.  More broadly (IMHO, YMMV):

    Stalker>Scrapper>Brute>Tank

    Bio>Fire>Rad Armors

Titan Weapons>Everything (Mace, SS are the closest to TW, IIRC.  This changes on Stalker, with I think? StJ being the top Stalker for single target?)

Titan Weapons is so strong in this that though Stalkers are generally better single target, TW/Bio scrap is the highest performer.  Note TW is probably in line for an adjustment.

With all due respects, IMHO,  your list is true for solo 🙂 any Fiery armor built for TEAMPLAY ONLY AKA full recharge / dmg + Adrenal (thus almost inexistant IO for solo but 1 or 2 panic button as shadow meld, hibernate and tons of juicy temporary power as smoke or etheral) will outdamage any amor with ton of self survival.

Savage stalkers can "hold the beer" to STJ stalkers.

Stalkers are Top SINGLE TARGET dps in team, Scrappers (with the exception of the tree hiding the forest : Titan Weapons) tends to shine with aoe (but far behind Tankers and Blasters) / survival

In team / Multi target content, Shield Armor can be a very powerfull kick ass armor too.

EDIT : the best mélée DPS is Gang War² 😄

If one is not 6-slotting Consume, is one even playing Fiery Aura? In addition to powering your entire dang organization for you, Consume, used proactively, makes you immune to Sappers and other end drainers. If this does not deserve 6 slots, nothing does. In addition, Preemptive Optimization has some nice set bonuses (bonii?). Actually, all 3 of the new EndMod sets do, depending on what you are looking for.

got 4 slot preemptive on all of my fire tankers (based on @Camel build :p) Kudo's to the op, amazing guide !

It is comical seeing folks project a min/max focus and "I wanna skip to the end game" mentality onto the testing and the data collected.

If someone wants to do their own testing, have at it. I would suggest using mission: "View your Future Memory" with standardized common IO slotting and power pool selections.

    • Powersets are intended to have strengths and weaknesses.
    • Builds are merely simple puzzles.
    • IOs were intended to provide variety and enhance replay-ability while capitalizing on some corporate goals.
    • Incarnates are another layer of the same.

Thanks @Galaxy Brain for doing this work, laying out your findings so clearly, and adding some considerations beyond just pew pew.

I like build alot so far, but I had a thought.  If you were to swap out one utility IO, like the 20% slow resist for example, wouldnt subbing in kismet's +acc be be worthwhile? Or do you feel the slow resist is more worth while?

Fiery armor is direclty tied to his recharge : for damage (Embrace and burn), but for survival : the only source of HP being the heal : no more recharge, means no more heal = faceplant 😉

This is a fair point. UB's mutant power connects him to the underworld / afterlife, which ends up bending the usual rule about the inevitability of death. So, any secondary that could connect to the underworld seems like a thematic choice.

In truth I picked ninjitsu because I wanted to play it. I rationalized it as UB already being around for a fair while and going out of his way to learn ninjitsu, given that relying on a "fists up" defensive stance when fighting extremely dangerous opponents outside the boxing ring wouldn't go very well.

Regen never feels tough enough and WP can feel meh to play, or have other issues with theme.  Sometimes you just have to go with another defense set, even on concepts that you'd like to use another on.

I said that because of self rez in each armor 😉

That being said @BrandX 's build is strong.

  13. I use this ranking to have an idea : the source is quite old but from my 123 lvl 50, i almost never feel this spreadsheet too much inaccurate.

    dpsbruteranking.PNG.00799e83430c5bfaafcb40aa9692517c.PNG

Just consider that the maths was done with all powers hitting at max of their number of target so :

    - Katana's golden dragonfly break the numbers (when you hit 3 targets with GD, you can be consider lucky or godlike skilled :p)

    - same for the awfull breath of fire of fiery mélée.

All dpa of powers with dot are calculated with arcanatime AND max damage but NO special mechanics applied as rage² for Super strenght, soul drain on x targets and so on

About Fiery mélée on Brute, a serious brute should test if Fury apply well his bonus on EVERY dots too 😉

I also never use a new character until they're fully-built with IOs boosted to +5, at least veteran level 20, have full accolades, and have full incarnates. After all, if a character doesn't have those things when I first use it, how will I know if I enjoy playing it?

    Fair enough 🙂

Personally, i just try it fully ready cause i see no interest in low level things : leveling is the just a step before the real game.

  15. Nice testings, for people in SO level 30ish.

All sets are not equal in term of optimisation : a fully build blaster dont need the tiny heal of water to stay alive.

I never use a new toy without a full build +5 and at least Veteran level 12/20 with accolades/incarnates buy with transcendent merit.

So the "safety" measure is "a bit" blurred when you have a full caped range Beam / TA blaster with bonfire, emp arrow and Glue arrow able to dps at 100+ range, for instance.

So.... YMMV for some reason as americans says 😄

But there is a thing i still dont understand :

I have tons of Bio scrapper and stalker, for damage purpose, obviously.

But how can a Bio tanker with almost no resistances and no DDR be considered top tier ?

I m sure a bio tanker can have the job done with a good build, but it made literrally months i try to build a "top tier" BIO tanker and all the results looks so "meh" compared to my Dark MA, Stone Dark and even my Fiery EM tanker.

None whatsoever. I think I used Conserve Power once and didn’t really need to even then. It’s just there for safety, and to get me into Physical Perfection.

It’s strong, but I’m not sure I’d call it stronger than the weapon sets since it’s unenhanceable and doesn’t stack. Katana, say, could make you mostly immune to melee/lethal defense debuffs, which tend to be the most common. But I wanted to try something new. I’ll probably be fiddling with Katana builds, though. If I can significantly improve on my DPS, I might convince myself to switch.

Plus the Gaussian proc, which fires off pretty reliably. Where I was happiest to have it was fighting against uber defense. With +84% to hit for five seconds you can pretty much hit anything a few times every cycle, so you aren’t merely twiddling your thumbs waiting for defensive powers to expire. Maybe not that helpful objectively, but it’s more fun than waiting, and fun matters too.

It does. Very fun. He might be my new main. Time will tell, but right now I don’t want to play anything else. 🙂

If you didnt know (or think), here a way to max recharge debuff resist 🙂

Base buff also have a 20% resist 🙂

i tried hard to improve my build based on yours (tohit and recharge resistance are sexy).

i have to admit that after 6 versions, "my" build looks a lot like yours now lol

i have just add crane kick for some juicy dmg buff and FF recharge, playing well with eagle claw mechanic.

thank a lot for your charing, i enjoy a lot more my beloved Tanker now 😛

DA/MA can reach 90% to all except its holes, and then 45% melee, ranged, and AoE.. DA by itself can reach the 90% to all except holes and still 45% to smash/lethal and melee.

But what makes DA one of the strongest is the heal. 66% HP every 10-13 seconds makes it near unkillable.

and the KB prot to manage (or not :p)

  21. I love my dark martial tanker 🙂
