  1. There were really 3 ideas in the OP 1.) What's viable - I agree 100% with the OP - they are all viable, and nobody should be giving you a hard time because of the choices you've made. If they ask - how do I do X better - offer suggestions - but that doesn't make them bad, because 2.) What's fun - all the sets can be fun. It just depends why you are playing - is it PL fast? to feel Uber? to be the best PVP? To have fun teaming once a week? to have fun teaming daily? to solo? to role-play? It just depends and for that reason there is no objectively bad 3.) What's good - And I would chokingly, agree with you Solvernia, that if asked, you should tell the person (much like they do in the forums), what are some good options, only after understanding #2 above Great Post! +1 Inf to Zumberge
  2. <Realizes troll is trying to immobilize him....*pop's a break-free and a logic inspiration* - moving on>
  3. I tried this - copied the "homecoming" folder and renamed it to "beta-hc". Sadly, the update goes to a folder called "hc-beta". No ill will here - just was hoping for the shortcut... It still works, quit Tequila, copy the files to "hc-beta" and reopen tequila. Well now you tell me...It wasn't really that large an update, and so by the time I saw this tequila had already had it's fill...

  5. It has another patch for the Beta Client that went out late last night
  6. No, but I'm handing out free lemonade of my own creation that is based heavily on an old recipe for Country Time that they no longer produce. Still doesn't give Minute Maid any right to sue me. Maybe Country Time can sue me, but they're not selling any kind of drinks in my town anymore, and I could easily claim fair use for that and other reasons. Wow! That's a lot of free lemonade you are selling...Let me know if anything happens - I'm sure that'll be informative to other players who are looking to start their own lemonade stand - but sadly, completely irrelevant in this scenario. Also, I am fairly sure if you are using stolen product, the Country Time can sue you, regardless of their sales strategy - but if they do, let us know what defense works... Also - from the article you linked, but clearly, like my posts as well, did not read...
  7. If I make a free lemonade stand on the sidewalk in front of my house, is Minute Maid going to sue me for threatening their profits? I don't know, does your lemonade stand have 90K customers getting free stolen Country Time? And I quoted my whole original response (not just a cherry picked part) for you and highlighted some selections that you might want to consider
  8. There is a known issue with the Exp levels lower than lvl 10 not working as intended. - https://forums.homecomingservers.com/index.php/topic,3220.msg23670.html?PHPSESSID=j80oq10v80omch26v3ocmrrhh5#msg23670
  9. I’m not arguing but for a population in 50-90k range, 30 seems like too small a sample size When I first began learning statistics, I felt the same. Mathematical evidence has shown that 30 or more is accurate, at around a 95% confidence with a margin of error of +/- 3%. Ipsos and all other polls use the same mathematical standards proofed over the last 200 years or so. Again, not trying to argue, just learn - most Ipsos polls and certain all of Gallup polls I've seen track around 1,000 responses - which is the confidence level and margin's you've expressed and covers a population larger than the planet earth has. For a population of 90K, with the same margin and confidence level, I'm calculating 988 responses needed. Here's the tool I always used for marketing - https://www.surveysystem.com/sscalc.htm and what I used to derive the numbers above... Again, I'm not trying argue, feel free to explain here or send me a PM. I'd love to learn more
  10. It would actually drop prices considerably if the buyer can see the offers. He would always pick the lowest offer, so sellers would be forced to keep dropping their prices until the market crashed. Inflation would happen the other way (if sellers could see the buyers bids) Still a no from me as well
  11. That's 100% right Zolgar - Taking NCSoft out of the equation for a second, also note that Marvel/Disney and DC/WB have their own Super Hero online universes, and could see a free to play CoH-reborn as a threat to their own profits. While my motto is "don't poke the bear", I also think this scenario is unlikely to happen, and given HC's limited resources, difficult to police. For me, I'm still not really worried about much exposure due to people playing as Cap or Supes.
  12. +1...Well Written PK... Thanks Devs for all you do!
  13. +1 for this...I know they updated a lot, but there are still a lot of old CRTs in the offices.
  14. I think being in Newsweek means that any attempt at secrecy has set sail. Not sure name calling is productive, but maybe you are laboring under some impression that doing so will change minds, opinions or actions.
  15. I’m not arguing but for a population in 50-90k range, 30 seems like too small a sample size
  16. Mandrake, I'm unclear... What facts did I get wrong? Please help me to understand. I said in the post, it's possible we don't have all the information... Why do you assume my "panties are in a twist?" Did you read the post? I said pretty clearly that a.) I appreciate all the work they are doing, b.) not asking for full transparency, and c.) I don't assume that there is any wrong doing. In fact never was I sarcastic, hyperbolic, extreme or threatening. I just laid out a list of facts and the only conclusions we can draw. If you aren't going to give them a few weeks to get lined out, I don't know what to tell you. I'm not Trashing anyone for questioning something - I am pointing out when people make ASSUMPTIONS and point them out as a FACT LIST, that they have not researched enough. Fact: You have got your panties in a wad, and you have not researched Delaware well enough. Seriously though - doesn't sound like I'm the one whose upset here Untrue - In Delaware, no prior approval or registration is needed from state agencies to incorporate or amend as a non-profit. It's automatic I am doing no such thing. It just happens to be the service that they used. I didn't pick any service. Just the one that Homecoming used I agree for the most part that this true. However, I had an attorney friend point me here a year ago - https://www.501c3.org/incorporate-nonprofit-delaware when I was researching this for another non-profit. Still waiting for an actual discrepancy in my facts... I agree 100% your statement. It's awesome to see them cap the donations. It's why I don't think they are playing us, however I'd love to see what you would actually recommend in a consultation...Would you recommend a non-profit not incorporate as a non-profit prior to accepting donations? Because every lawyer I've spoken with rolled his eyes when I suggested it a couple of years ago. I agree! Thank you devs and admins...keep up the great work, but I would like to know where we stand on this...
  17. True enough +1 Inf
  18. Bump - I would love to know this to. Haven't really found a crew to hang with yet...
  19. I'm mean, to be fair to those players - they had a system they liked and it's not as awesome now. If I really liked DFB, I'd be unhappy too. And if I was unhappy, I'd come to the forums and voice my displeasure. It's not ridiculous... It's true the changes still make it is better than Live, and it's true it didn't go from really awesome to horrible. But it did go from really awesome to just awesome. Since awesome isn't as good as really awesome, and since you've had really awesome, it is disappointing. I'm not saying the changes are unfair, but we needn't belittle those who are disappointed and expressing it.
  20. If they remove part of the blind, the market economy either crashes or inflates. If buyers can see the sellers prices, that just means that all future sellers are going to just have to keep lowering and lowering their prices to ensure that someone meets their price, until some equilibrium is established. If sellers can see the buyers bids, then sellers will keep raising the prices, since they know what buyers are bidding and can just price a little over that so the prices keep going up until some equilibrium is established. To be fair, all 3 systems work, but one favors the buyer, one the seller, and one favors neither. Since I am both buyer and seller, I would prefer it favor neither... Plus, its like a mini-game all in itself...
  21. As I said earlier when I posted on this, I'm not trying to call Homecoming out. I'm playing everyday on Homecoming's servers, happily accepting the EULA and loving the updates. I appreciate all the time and risk that the volunteers have put in on this. After posting this, I will go back to playing today. However, some posters pointed out this anomaly and we shouldn't trash them when they are correct. (We can trash people for their tone, attitude, etc - but in this case they have their facts straight). Fact - According to their EULA - https://forums.homecomingservers.com/user-agreement/, they are Homecoming Servers LLC, a Delaware Limited Liability Company (filing number 7407345) Fact - You an locate their incorporation information online - https://icis.corp.delaware.gov/Ecorp/EntitySearch/NameSearch.aspx - lookup by their name or filing number Fact - You can see from their registered agent they used an online registration service - https://www.northwestregisteredagent.com/incorporation-service-signup.html Fact - It costs the same to file as an LLC or Non-Profit on their website. Either way you are still incorporated. Either way takes the same amount of time (1-5 days) Fact - LLC's are mutually exclusive with Non-Profit's in Delaware. You cannot be both in Delaware. Other states, yes. Not Delaware Fact - You can create non-profit separately and have the director/member of the non-profit be an LLC. But that would still require incorporating a non-profit in Delaware Fact - Getting Tax Exempt status (their stated reason for becoming an LLC), does take several months Fact - Delaware LLC's can't be tax-exempt, since they are non-profits, only a non-profit can be Fact - Homecoming LLC, which is not, and will never be, a non-profit is collecting funds, which puts both the donor and Homecoming at risk Now there are 4 conclusions we can draw- [*]Mistakes were made - Homecoming may gotten bad information, or may have accidentally applied for the wrong thing. Regardless - that is not difficult to admit to this group - we would understand, certainly we've all made them and lots of people have offered their support and help with the costs to correct it [*]We don't have all the information - this doesn't make the facts wrong, just means we aren't privy to some additional knowledge - Maybe they decided against non-profit status for some reason. Maybe there is a non-profit corp that we don't have name of (but we should, since that is where the donations should flow to) [*]They are deceiving us. I can't say how strongly I doubt this to be true, but it is a conclusion one must not discount when they are saying one thing and the facts say another. [*]Some combination of 1,2, or 3 What we cannot conclude is that have been transparent enough in this one area (of how they are set up). Any as long as they are accepting money from people for any reason, they should be clear about where the money is going and to whom.
  22. Hopefully amidst some of the strong voices that posted since you did, you've determined that Homecoming does not have a policy for or against using another companies heroes or ideas. It is extremely unlikely that your doing so would rain down any headaches for anyone playing or hosting this game. Great question - and thanks for being concerned about the community!
  23. Ironically, for likely the very same reasons you enjoy playing here. To meet new players who have a shared interest in super-hero culture and play co-op missions, TF’s, etc. -AND- to then tune up my characters in farms/PL scenarios, racing my fellow farmers through a missions we reset over and over and time each other (while PL’ing one of our other alts) and discuss how to improve the build and/or play style to get the mission done a little bit faster. Or to go cruise a PVP zone for fresh players who are anxious to prove their purpled-out builds in one on one (or better, team on team) combat. Many, not all, of those reasons likely resonate with you. As well they should since we are playing the same “content,” but just enjoying it differently. Those who disdain my style of play often fail to realize that outside of AE farms and street sweeping, we both have access to the SAME kinds of content. I just ignore most of it and focus on the game mechanics of DPS/sec whereas you focus on the speech bubbles and/or prose presented by your contacts between missions. Honestly, I’ve played them enough I could likely go toe to toe with most people in a game of COH Contact Arc Trivial Pursuit. Even for most of the newish zones. But that’s just it....we like the same things....DIFFERENTLY. There’s just this myopic view of many of the players calling for nerfs or changes that the way I enjoy playing OUR content is wrong and I need to learn to enjoy it YOUR way...or hit the road. Thankfully, I can just hit the road now that I have my own server. I just hope you don’t wake up and find out week over week server pops start dropping by double digit percentages as more start doing what I’m doing and spending far more time on private servers and far less time on these pseudo-public servers. Because if we do.....public will start to feel a lot more like private, and then we both lose. Crysis - I do want to commend you on writing some well-though out posts. I truly hear your frustration, you are asking great questions, and you aren't being at all combative. I think that the population on Homecoming has been growing exponentially for a while and has started to taper a bit, and likely will decrease soon. However, I think there will still be critical mass to truly enjoy this game as a true MMORPG even if half the people leave, and the costs then to maintain the server are reduced as well. So any discussions about if you do, or since your did X, I am going to leave, ring somewhat hollow. You like it enough to try it out and see if your experience is really as broken as you think it is? Stick around! Keep posting, asking good questions - it's clear to me that you bring a good viewpoint. If you really can't stand it, I understand, sorry to see you go. But my real question is - are you in or out? You keep saying out, but you keep posting here. Which to my mind makes any further discussion or argument about Homecoming's merits moot. But I am serious - well written and thoughtful posts!
  24. One thing I noticed is that you have to restart Tequila after every patch so it can download the patch files. I get tripped up by it every patch. May not be at all the issue, just throwing it out there in the hopes it helps
