  1. my contribution is "there already exists something that shows you all the numbers put together and it is pine's hero designer" Except the OP was asking about being able to see these numbers in-game...so sure - there is pines, pen/paper, excel, what not...But sadly, none of those tools are in-game...
  2. Pixie Knight - I feel the same way. When I first started playing - it was magical, and I got into a SG with a bunch of people interested in role-playing similar to me. We supported each other. I would either be working, or working and playing, or playing, or playing and eating, and occasional breaks for sleeping. If I wasn't in the game, I would be scanning the forums. Now I am back, and I'm more excited about a game than I have been since I first started playing CoH in 2004. But in some ways, the magic just isn't quite the same - maybe it's because I have more responsibilities...I dunno, but I'm confounded by the level excitement and familiarity I am feeling. Maybe it's because I haven't really found a group to team regularly and role-play with. But that's on me - I need to try harder... Pretty stream of consciousness here, but mostly just wanted to share that your post really resonated with me! +1 Inf
  3. And your contribution is....? Are you just here to throw down sarcasm, or do you have something to add besides negativity?
  4. So much here.... 1.) Yes, too many people telling other people how they should play...it's a problem and it's never going to solve anything...I agree 2.) The nerf, I assume, is AE XP? How is ensuring the servers stay up stupid? Elaborate please... And regardless, if you read the original post on this thread, it's about the same as it was on live... 3.) "I don't care about your opinion"? But you want the developers to respect yours? Nice!
  5. Here it was I thought it was game shutting down that caused most people to leave. Let's be patient - it's back. And I think any argument that expresses itself in terms of people leaving or quitting is kind of pointless. This isn't a commercial enterprise. Heck, it's only quasi-legal at best. Homecoming does not need me any more than I need it. If you leave, you are only lowering the load on already straining servers.
  6. Airing of grievances, feats of strength...count me as +1 (inf, for the chuckles). SERENITY NOW!
  7. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultraman_(comics)
  8. I think some of it is “voting with your wallet” idea. They have more sign-ups than anyone else - surely that is a show of overwhelming support? They raised $7G in 20 minutes...that’s overwhelming suppprt. Does that mean no one wants changes? Of course not, this thread and many others show that they do. But the developers, who all work for free on this, are engaging. I can be patient quite a while longer while they keep sorting things out.
  9. They are unique so you can't have more than one of each slotted. Thanks, I was going to make an update on this as well confirming what you said - you can store as many of the enhancements of you want, but can only slot 1 of each kind (there are 5). +1 inf for the follow-up
  10. It definitely truncates. Each time you hit the search button you get the next set in the list. I've done Search up to 3 times before the list recycles...
  11. I'm actually curious about why this is... why would you ever want to go backwards??? My guess is for the "purists" out there who want only the NCSoft vision of the game, and/or who want all the challenges (capes @ 20, no exp bonuses, etc).
  12. I don't need to imagine - Shinobu just did so perfectly...Showed how it's possible, provided more detailed explanation, and was perfect civil. +1 Inf Shinobu!
  13. fortunately for the people who took 'you'll never use math outside of high school' to heart, there's pine's hero designer which does all the math for you Imagine a world where people can suggest things that make the game more enjoyable for them...They could call those suggestions QoL improvements (that's Quality of Life). It's a world where you don't have to always do things a more difficult way. Where you could improve the game so that people can stay immersed in longer and enjoy it more. The game could even have a forum, maybe even a suggestions thread where those QoL improvement could be proposed. A world where your playstyle isn't impacted if you prefer Pines, or using that good ol' fashioned grade school math. This QoL doesn't get my vote, but it certainly wouldn't hurt me if implemented. Why not be civil in the response...
  14. if you read the thread you'd see i've already made my measured response the rest is just making fun of people who think that forcing everyone to play in a certain way is unironically a good idea I read the entire thread and saw many people's measured responses...I'd love to see yours... Yours however were the only ones making fun of people's mental health...I know several people with such severe anxiety they can't leave their homes...It's a real issue... Again, I don't agree with the suggestion the OP made, just think we can be dignified in our responses...
  15. They're the 'unofficial' RP, PVP, etc servers for a reason tho. If you slapped (RP) or (PVP) next to Everlasting or Indomitable, you'd make them the official RP and PVP servers, which invites a whole new host of issues. My recommendation for new players is to ask more established players where they should go if they want to PVP or RP. I had the same challenge when I started back...The forums call out the servers as unofficial PVP or unofficial RP. Pretty sure you could just add the words (unofficial RP) or (unofficial PVP) next to Everlasting or Indomitable, and they'd still be the unofficial homes. And clearly Homecoming supports these unofficial homes, because they have labeled them as such in the forums...
  16. The simple solution was... to fight smaller groups of enemies. If solo, did you really need to be trying to fight 16+ enemies all at once? By being willing to use more single target and fight smaller groups at a time, the aggro was survivable. By all means use the AoE attacks. But doing so could bring more heat then the blaster might be capable of surviving. To be fair, a Trick Arrow defender faced the same issue. The debuffs are nice, very nice in fact when slotted up. And yet in large teams it could prove difficult to survive laying them out. I mean, I've literally seen my trick arrow defenders peal all aggro of a pair of very skilled and well slotted tankers using just the debuffs. Well said - ED right or wrong, never stopped anyone from being able to play or even solo...They might have had to alter their difficulty settings, tactics, or play style to adjust, but no one was rendered powerless by the change.
  17. Imagine, responding non-sarcastically to someone's suggestion, and slightly empathizing with them, instead of making unnecessary comments about their mental health. I agree that the dev's shouldn't limit DFB, but most people here took the time to at least provide a measured response...
  18. None of these numbers are hidden, and they can all be worked out with gradeschool math if you really absolutely need to know how much of a bonus your powers get: Captain Billy has 0% global recharge. He picks Knockout Blow as one of his attacks, which has a 20 second recharge rate. He slots two recharge enhancements in his Knockout Blow that each gives him 40% recharge for this power. He then picks a power that gives him 20% global recharge. He then slots 2 enhancement sets into his other powers that give him 5% global recharge each. How many seconds does it take for Captain Billy's Knockout Blow to recharge? Please show your work clearly. To be fair, as you said, "show your work". This isn't a problem that can be easily solved in ones head, and if you have to run to paper and pencil, calculator or excel to solve it, then that takes time out of the game, which is a major pain. I can totally see this as a QoL enhancement for those care about the Min/Maxing of abilities. I'm not +1 it, because I don't care, but I understand the OP pain, empathize, and think they posted their suggested in the right place...
  19. Tailor missions and badges. I think the tailor is also where you go for the body scuplting (changing your size...)
  20. The P2W vendor let me grab one of each prestige enhancement. Might be a bug if it's only letting you take one...or maybe it's a bug on my end?! Right now the P2W vendor lets you take as many prestige enhancements that you want. Not sure if you can use more than 5 (haven’t thought to try) but you can get at least 10.
  21. And this is what both sides of this supposed debate must grasp. Content like AE used for powerleveling is not the issue, the issue is how it overwhelmes the communication channels and the perception of new players is that that is all the game is. Veterans forget what made them fall in love with this game. When any form of farming floods all grouping to the point it is the majority of what newbies see, it will disillusion them. So, in essance, either keep farming out of broadcsts or adjust the rewards to encourage balance so new players experience the game that hooked all of us veterans. We live in a community, and in all communities we have a balanced compromise. People who argue for let me play my way forget that they can play their way, if they can find a solution that doesn't harm the community. This same argument is used in examples such as mandatory helmet laws for motorcyclists. Some simply argue they should not be forced to wear a helmet because it is their choice and their body, and harms no one else. The society they exist in believes otherwise, due to the negative impact on the community. We get you want to play your way, but it the harm it causes to your community outweighs your individual desires. This is well stated. I was just thinking how I used to avoid Atlas Park because it was just sad and disheartening to hear "plz PL me" over and over again. Missions there made me cringe, and the # of new toons I played dropped because I wanted to avoid Galaxy and Atlas. It made the game not fun. I will say that I appreciate that all that old "How do I PL?" traffic has moved from Atlas Broadcast to the LFG Channel, but that too is very cluttered with DFB requests over and over again. Can I still find a team to play? Yes...Does it make it harder and less enjoyable? Yes. Is the current system better? Yes I want to be clear - I have no problem with people PL'ing, running AE farms, etc. It's not my preference, but to each there own - but to say that my play style doesn't impact you, or the other way around? That's ridiculous - no change exists in a vacuum. There are always consequences...
  22. I don't understand how anyone could look at that, and fail to realize how bad it would be to leave that situation unaddressed. I can't understand the desire to govern how others play I can't understand why anyone would think there should be no rules in a game?
  23. tldr; The Software Business. Money in the corporate world is no less political and safer than Politics. :) Got long winded, I happen to think debate skills are really important for success. :) A meeting to determine what goes into a new product, for example, is a professional debate. One must sway the decision makers into choosing the things your team wants/thinks is right/knows will sell, vs other competing interests, like developers who would rather not be bothered to figure it out... But take the same thing into any business situation with competing interests, especially sales. For years, I have been the person to call 'BS' when people have no data, no real evidence, or, in some cases, no real product just vaporware and promises. I am deployed these days to specifically 'interface' with prospect IT staff and debate the validity of our solution with thier internal staff and against other vendors at the same time. I am always open to new data during these things as well. New data changes things. Holding on to a PoV when presented with new data that chnages things, IMO, is a losing stratetgy that appeals only to the human base fear of change, even if that change is just making a better choice. In my world, anecdotal information is not data, along with vague fears and tradition. :) PS: Was given the title Misinformation Eradicator on my badge for client meetings... I loved this response. I spent 20 years in the corporate technology world as product manager/business analyst/troubleshooter. Used many of the same skills you mentioned - I love data to manage a PoV. A PoV without data is pretty meaningless to me, so I understand that. And I have had to call BS to many people over the years, again using data. It's a crazy thing Thanks for sharing!
