Sure, but this is a New Player Experience thing, not a veteran player looking for shortcuts because they've done it already thing. With the flight pack they give you, it adds an extra two mins on top of the time you're already spending to get it now, but it helps direct new players to important systems.

Yea, but improving the new player experience TO THE DETRIMENT of the veteran experience doesn't have to be a thing.

I agree with the people who suggested 10 different badges OR an Explore accolade seems like a totally reasonable compromise.

I've been leveling a Storm/Regen Sentinel on Beta and got him to about 43 and running Mako's second arc solo at +0/x8 (yeah, yeah, I know that's not the design scale).

I'm not sure if it's Sentinel or the CoT, but I was frequently getting confused and then held.  Getting confused is par for the course for redside COT with all the succubi, but I don't recall ever being held on a character with a mez protection toggle.

I need to try it some more to see what was stacking the holds on me.  But even if this was a team, it's dangerous if your meat shield runs in and gets held in the alpha.

Also: Storm/Regen Sentinel is awesome.  The storm improvements and older sentinel changes make him feel very strong.  Now I need to make one on live.

yes storm is very fun on Sentinel.

Sentinel mez protection is just not that high. You might need to protect yourself with moment of glory in certain situations, and regen just is a little vulnerable to stacking.

Then I'd never qualify, because my teammates are my pets. 😜

I was saying Defenders would still be in that category for exactly that reason. 😁

I agree I wish the feature did a better job showing what roles an AT is actually likely to play. That means, yes, some basic ATs get more than one.

  4. Create a second Inspiration window, Opt In in Options, with only One slot. This slot ALWAYS contains the most recent inspiration that dropped. Give it a listing in Keybinds as well. This way you could set a keybind to Use Most Recent Inspiration, regardless of what slot it was in your basic Inspiration tray.

The problem is that the "logic" guiding the puzzle is too arbitrary practical.  "We have to have exactly one role per AT and exactly two ATs for each role, but also EATs each get three roles and they can be whatever" is, as you noted, not a representation of how the game works.  But there's nothing that says the requirements can't be a representation of how the game works except for stubborn adherence to rules that were made up for the sake of having rules in the first place.

Well, the Fairness of one Role per AT except for the Epics is addressed in that post, but sure, I hear you.

And exactly how is that going to help new players understand Archetype roles when it is not a representation of the game?  And I quote:

Yea, and if you look at my other posts in the thread I made this exact same observation, so I suppose we'll see if any of it sticks in the next build. My guess is they end up cutting it completely because of the philosophical objections. If they could find a way to do it that was closer to reflecting the true diversity of the game then it might work.

So Widows can fill Melee OR Control, but Corruptors can ONLY fill Ranged Damage, and Defenders can ONLY fill Support?  Perfectly Balanced.

Also, when pertaining to this feature, its not an OR, its an AND.  A Widow fulfils Melee, Ranged, AND Control.  Corruptors ONLY fulfil Ranged.

It’s a logic puzzle. You have to put it together using the guidelines laid out in the pinned post. It’s NOT a perfect representation of how the game works, that’s understood.

  7. Yea, because Widows CAN spec to be EITHER melee OR control, so they fill both roles for the purpose of this bonus. The fact that any of this boggles anyone's mind when it's just a little bonus mechanic, is itself mind boggling. The reasons they placed each AT where they did have been explained and are quite clear. Not understanding it can only be willful at this point.

...that's kinda the point of this whole 14 page discussion. 😅

There's a fear that people will start being excluded from teams because of their AT's not being the correct role.

(Besides, I wasn't complaining or anything, I was just explaining to Paradox why the devs did what they did regarding Kheldians)

I definitely could imagine, with this change, seeing calls like "LFM, need Def, MM, or Arachnos Soldier", "Troller, Dom, WS, or Widow".

Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing, I don't know. Obviously some people hate the very idea of it. Frankly, we ALREADY see similar calls, so this wouldn't be ALL that different except it would change which ATs are getting called on SLIGHTLY.

One of the purposes of this seems to be to separate out Defenders and Corruptors, to encourage people to play Defenders more in high level content. So the question is: what about high level content is hostile to Defenders (and Masterminds, and Kheldians)?

I think that’s an assumption that may be logical but not necessarily correct. It doesn’t reflect any of the dev statements in this thread. They seem to have separated those ATs so that the original Villain ATs would include one of each role.

  10. Or, you could add a line to each of the Roles in the listing that explains just a little:

Tank: A primary function of your Archetype in a team is to attract as much enemy attention as possible to protect your teammates.

Melee Damage: A primary function of your Archetype in a team is to do damage in hand to hand combat with the enemy.

Ranged Damage: A primary function of your Archetype in a team is to do damage to the enemy from a distance.

Control: A primary function of your Archetype in a team is to prevent enemies from taking action, or even turn them against each other.

Support: A primary function of your Archetype in a team is to lend aid to teammates or pets, directly or by debilitating the enemy.

    Hello! I have a request.

Currently, Peacebringers and Warshades (hello @Laucianna 👀) show ? for all stats during character creation, like so:

    image.png

While this does have some mild thematic significance, it's rather unhelpful for new players. In the next build we'll be adding numbers here for Kheldians, and also potentially updating some other ATs if we think the numbers aren't quite right (for example, Arachnos Soldiers have a pets rating of 2, which is clearly inaccurate).

These are the proposed numbers for Peacebringers and Warshades:

    image.png

    image.png

Please do let me know what you think. We're definitely open for input on the Kheldian numbers, and for any other ATs that could do with having their numbers tweaked.

Keep in mind that the goal here is to better communicate the strengths and weaknesses of each AT to inexperienced players, rather than be a raw reflection of the actual balance of each AT.

Maybe in addition, reevaluate the listings in the Playstyles in the Character Creation screen?

Like, add Warshade and Widow to Control, maybe add Warshade to Pets, Peacebringer to Melee, that sort of thing? Maybe Dominator goes in both Range and Melee?
