Stefanie Peebles arc in striga. It's tedious (3 kill all missions) and old style, but the reward is one of the best if not THE best temp power available for melees. 2 hours of +30 resistance to all! And you can activate and deactivate as you like. This is usually better than any armor's T9 power and 2 hours means that you basically always have it when things get tough.

*bump* I would like to know as well... since it has been available on other servers for a long time already. Most of it should be in the code anyways, so it shouldn't be too hard to make it work.

Ninja is the one primary where you can really use the excessive defense buffs of force fields. Ninja/FF is the only tanky ninja build that i ever tried.

Let's analyze. It's a man standing in a cloud of fog. FOG CONTROL CONFIRMED!

+1, true. For normal content you can either have brute/scrapper (various sets and specialities), blasters (you can make them tanky) or maybe soldiers/widows. Some controllers and dominators can also be very effective and safe, but probably not as fast.

My fire/time controller is pretty tanky. Big defense buffs + big tohit debuffs, combined with double slow around me (hot feet & time's juncture) means that not only mobs almost can not hit me, they also can not run away and they even have their damage reduced, while they unsuccessfully try to flee. Now throw in the huge recharge buff and the res debuff...

You are forgetting blasters and some support powers. I would vote for an ice/tactical arrow blaster. A lot of mitigation build in, TA covers your accuracy and endurance problems. Take hover and shoot everything with ice storm, glue arrow and blizzard and nothing will be able to move towards you even without enhancements while slowly perishing.

Congratulations, your toon is at or near the end of what he can achieve, honestly optimizing further would only have very small results. The real end game is to fill all those other 999 slots... and when you have done that, there are other servers...

Balance wise it would probably be best if power boost would only boost stuff for the duration of power boost, but for that time all advertised things should be boosted. I am aware that this might be hard to implement... so if that's easier maybe just delete the +def in power boost or just globally enhance defense for the power boost duration. At the moment it does not behave as advertised. And farsight does not affect +res, yea, but it's not only defense. It's a major perception boost, that is also not covered by power boost. And everywhere else in the game if a power can do 2 or 3 things at once, you most often can just enhance one of the effects via enhancements or even powers. It would be inconsistent to make this strange exception.
-
The controller-darkness-affinity power fade provides a +def and a +res buff. The +def portion should be enhanceble by Primal Force Mastery/Power boost like for example time/farsight is, but the values do not change when power boost is applied.

No, in hover farms you do *not* need ranged def, the trick is that the mobs do not have any ranged attack and you hover... so you can not be hit. But you can not use any powers that rely on melee range, that's why a fire/kin actually is not so great here (hot feet, imps both need melee range).

I recently joined a hover farm with my plant/storm/leviathan-controller and i think i was dealing damage at blaster levels (2 lightning storms, tornado, water sprout, carrion creepers, all against mobs res debuffed by freezing rain). That made me try out solo hover farm and it was surprisingly efficient, felt almost as fast as my fire farmer brute. The toon was not designed for farms, but it looks like i accidently hit a sweet spot. Do you have any controllers that can farm at a high efficiency level?

I am coming here from time to time to check if there is anything new. I know the devs are doing things behind the scenes... just would be nice if we could get some notice in advance what is being worked on.
-
Btw. it should be pretty easy to check if *your* toon can survive no enhancements. Just make a second build.

I am not trying to perform at your levels, but i think you should indeed try /TA as secondary. I think it's the best ranged blaster secondary. It has great self buffs and can slow and -recharge very well, you feel like a little controller. And the oil slick is a great AE for longer fights. Another idea would be /energy, just for boost range and boost power. You can Blizzard stuff from really far away and at the same time, mobs get slowed a lot more than usual... you see where this is going? Safety from (extreme) range. Might give that a try.

I am considering buying a VR headset for my PC. Did anybody have a good VR experience (or any VR experience) with COH? Any headset that is running COH well?

You can make a decent farmer with 100 Mio, i did it. But it's not spines/ice, it's the popular rad/fire. The nice thing is that you really only need 3 attack powers, your aura, burn and iradiated ground. Sure, you should also get a bit of single target damage but thats secondary. Capping fire resist is trivial and with capped resists alone you can already farm... but only at +0 or +1 /8. To go higher you need to chase defense. Most IO sets that grant fire resists are expensive, so dont take them. Just take all the powers that grant general defense (manouvers, combat jumping, etc.) and slot them out. Get the 2 +3 defense unique IOs. You should be able to land at close to 20% defense. When your farmer hits 50, take the barrier power and melee hybrid. Alternate them while farming, both powers will boost your defenses enough for a pretty long time, so that you can farm at least +3, +4 is possible when you get better. There will be a gap that you can simply close by popping a purple. That's how i am farming all the time and it works great. Sure, you can not AFK farm with this, but that's boring anyways 🙂

Poison has really great debuffs. The problem with poison is only when you fight big mobs, the AEs are pretty small... hard to get all the mobs into them. Not at all comparable to for example Rad. While the numbers for poison maybe even better than rad, the small areas can be a problem. Where poison shines is taking down single hard mobs like AVs, EBs and bosses.

Thanx for all the input. Small update: In the 30ties when i was doing a devouring earth arc, this method didn't work anymore in a very humiliating way :). I think their ground spawns buff them and debuff me, so i went down very fast when trying to tank. Well.. good that we had a brute. Now 6-slotted distortion field with recharges and holds, that will hopefully help in those situations.

If i know that the defender is really skilled, almost any defender is really welcome, for different reasons. If i play my stone brute, abviously i want a kin. A stormy can be very nice if i have my blaster. Go into the hurricane and nothing touches you. I also like nature and time. For not so competent defenders empathy or pain are good. Everybody can heal, it's trivial. You just need to be awake.

I recently built a time defender (/rad secondary). Yesterday at level 28 or so i was in a full group with not much support classes and nobody really tanky. So people were shy to take the alpha. At that time i had 6 slotted farsight and 3 slotted Time's juncture, together with manouvers and hover. The numbers suggested that mobs would only have a 5% chance to hit me if they were affected by juncture, so i thought... well, lets try it. For the next 2 missions i straight on jumped into every mob first and it really worked! I could be the tank. Never got hit much. Granted, i think we played at +2. At +4 this might be suicidal. And i managed not to get stunned all the time, maybe cause of the mobs we were fighting or maybe it was just luck. Now i am considering a respec to take acrobatics to be a bit more resilient to such things. It was fun and very unexpected. I don't have any set bonuses btw., this toon just had standard IOs made from recipes bought at the university.

Problem is if you take all of bio and most of rad, you can not fit in much else. In my (just level 30) build i wanted to have tough/weave and haste and a travel power. I didn't want to skip any bio power, so what i ended up doing is skipping quite a lot of rad powers. I didn't take the t2, t3 and t6 powers. I will still have enough single target powers for an attack chain (since i have the fast recharging box attack as well). Proton sweep is not much of an AE and pretty slow so it went out. With the 2 toggles (contamination and irradiated ground) i already have decent AE options, even before getting atom smasher. And since i have tough/weave my SL-resists are almost capped in combat since i also slotted evolving armor for resists. I don't have any special IOs yet. Still, i can run solo missions with +1/+8 already, build feels pretty tanky.

Ninja/Thermal MM. Should really cover a lot. Ninja pets can be slotted with all kinds of enhancements and with thermal you get places to put heals and resists. Defense can be slotted in a lot of pool powers, so not an issue. Edit: Kheldians might be great as well. They are jacks of all trades, should find a spot for practically everything.

Just started a dark/nature troller and it looks pretty nice. Fearsome stare + spore cloud means -30% to hit AoE, and that is BEFORE slotting anything. There is a lot more of course and this could also be accomplished with /dark or /rad, but for me /nature has more interesting options.
