Star Trek: Section 31
Techwright replied to ThaOGDreamWeaver's topic in Comic, Hero & Villain Culture
What's the "origins cinematic movie" they refer to? I hate even having to ask that question. Back through the run of Enterprise, I was pretty knowledgeable for all things Trek. Discovery threw this fan under the runabout nacelle and I've never been deeply interested since, though I do have a curiosity about Strange New Worlds. -
Do you mean as a copy only, with the original being retained on the server? As a desktop support tech, I get very nervous when I learn anyone has stored something important and hard or impossible to replace on a local device. I've seen too many tragedies occur because of the assumption that it is fine in a local drive. I do mean tragedies. I'd feel a lot better if it was just a copy to the local. That does begger the question though, if you're going to upload a base from a local drive, doesn't that pose a threat for the server from potential malware on Joe Average's computer? @Dacy and I had a forum chat about a very similar idea a while back. I think it was back around the Halloween showcase of 2023. The idea being to have a skilled builder create for the unskilled, then have a way within the server to transition the base to the recipient SG leader for installation as their base. Dacy brought up some excellent concerns for the process, which more or less nullified the possibility, at least with the volunteer development team we currently have, the amount of work involved, and the mess of a base code.

Locking out certain door locations on the Synapse TF
Techwright replied to ShardWarrior's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
I've been watching the Manticore TF for a while now. It seems that the starting door for the TF is set to a random possibility of 4, perhaps 5 specific doors, a couple of which are far from the others. Likewise at certain key points in the TF the mission door is one of only a handful. That seems to suggest to me that a TF can have multiple fixed location doors. Spread out enough, this could possible prevent camping, at least from a sizable force, while still setting the few doors far enough from police drones that stolen Babbages shouldn't be a problem. -
Trying to find an old post, a Homage to the Tundercats
Techwright replied to smnolimits43's topic in Art & Multimedia
This perhaps? I split the word into "Thunder Cats" in my search. (with parenthesis or you'll get a lot of cat pictures.) -
I was tempted to add that old Facebook chestnut: "Who's with me?!"
-
That's fine. I wasn't really asking in order to decide. My OP was meant more as a curiosity of what other's interpretation(s) would be.
-
Adding to that, I'd be curious as to how many supergroups have only 1 or 2 players in them, as well as other stats on player population in the SGs, such as average number and max number. Also stats on number of characters in SGs. 2025 New Year's resolution: Build and level both a Sonic Resonance & Archery Defender and a Stone Melee/Fiery Aura Stalker on Indomitable so I can run the Eden Trial and the Abyss story arc.

New DCU: Jason Momoa's new role...(?)
Techwright replied to Techwright's topic in Comic, Hero & Villain Culture
Wikipedia notes that one of the creators of Lobo's modern version was influenced by Marvel's Punisher and Wolverine, so the character definitely has the potential to fit into a darker work. In trying to answer your question as to how a "rather outsize character fit into a 'True-Grit-In-Space' type tale", I suspect you need only look at Heath Ledger's interpretation of the usually over-the-top Joker: more dangerous and psychotic, a little less clown. We all know how that turned out. -
This is interesting, I realize the points of light are technically floating, but I'm captivated by the idea of having our characters given pinpoint fiber-optic lights woven into hair or costume.

In that case, I'm hoping for Ambush Bug. 😁

Ah, I see now. Thank you for clarifying. I wasn't trolling. Perhaps I was just too tired when looking at it all. I misinterpreted the DPS comment as something the enhancement inherently increased in the character, that is, built into the enhancement, not improvement of team speed external to the enhancement. I've been aware for years that teams love the KB>KD to keep things moving. I also long ago learned to line up the KB shots to bank flying opponents off walls and such to keep them contained, something I rarely see other ENG blasters do these days, but that's a slightly different kettle of fish from this discussion.

There's something akin to that with a belt buckle over on Champions Online. Would love to see what you suggest brought to the game. That said, I was hoping either the removal of a cape or making it invisible would be a fairly simple task for the coding team. I suspect a belt would be a lot more work. To be fair, my alternate suggestion of a neck chain might be much more work as well, though the brooch would already be there and in position.

Might want to do the BINGO stuff a bit quieter next time. That old lady behind you had her hearing aid turned up to catch the next one, and, well, let's just say I'm glad she has a pacemaker.

"a DPS increase": First I've heard of this. I'm not a numbers guy, by far, but I'm surprised because my main since Live has been an ENG/ENG blaster, inherent KB. I'd have thought I'd have heard of it by now. I love ENG/ENG, but get highly annoyed at having to sacrifice a slot per power for KB>KD just to play with a team. My first inclination, therefore, is to welcome the Null suggestion, but I'll be open-minded and would like to know more about this DPS increase. How much, and what causes it? Just putting the Sudden Acceleration: KB to KD enhancement in? As I stated, I lean towards this, but wonder what would happen to Sudden Acceleration: KB to KD? Modified to something new or sent the way of the Dodo and the Strength of Will Inspiration?

Good call! I'd been thinking along similar lines. Apparently there are two others: Matthew and Tom. Nothing says "cannon fodder" in the Council quite like lacking a title.

Game-wise, I've always thought that if it involves a test tube, medical fluid pack, needle & bottle, etc., it's science. If it involves gears & steam, vacuum tubes, transistors, microprocessors, batteries, etc. it's likely tech. Yeah, that'd be me. I find the stun effects of the tech taser and the mutation powder to be more effective (to my style of play, at least) than the other origin items. And each of those is a non-lethal tool, should you be in a Batman-like mood, whereas poor Natural Origin players wanting to "bring 'em back alive" are given a knife. 🙄
-
How much technology does it take before a Natural Origin should be considered a Technological Origin? Iron-Man is pretty obvious. He's got the brilliant mind, and may have learned a few natural moves along the way, but he's almost entirely reliant on the power suit or components of it. What of Batman or Green Hornet, though? Both use tricked-out cars, and Batman has other tricked out rides as well. Batman heavily uses his utility belt and costume elements incorporating technology (which varies in the re-tellings). Green Hornet, though the number of his gizmos is fewer, uses both a special gas pellet gun and a custom "Sting", basically a heavy duty taser in either gun or rod form. Yet both are skilled hand-to-hand fighters with no modifications to their bodies (like cybernetics). Where do these considerations land them?
-
Considering Squirrel Girl has defeated 3 of the cosmic-level villains in Marvel: Thanos, Galactus, and Ego the Living Planet, I'm not surprised that she's "ludicrously overpowered".

Ah, sorry. I was looking at the primary pool Rock Armor and had made assumptions that all were the same when it came to customization.
-
not sure about completely hiding it. There's options for "minimal" in the appearance customization section of the costume generator, but that's the best available of which I know.

Not certain how practical those claws are, especially when needing to use keyboards to hack computers, but overall it is a good look. I'd love to see those kneepads added to the costume options. What character is this?

Good luck with that. I had a nice conversation years back with a printer salesman who admitted the printer companies had bought heavily into the "planned obsolescence" concept. Therefore, they actually design printers to wear out at some point after 3 years. They market them cheaper, however, because the gold is in the ink sales. He advised me (a low-level IT tech) to not buy the $400+ printers, as the same planned obsolescence applied to them. When I asked why they were even sold, then, he said they were marketed for the small office crowd, who printed more pages and from multiple desks. I hear ya about HP. From my experience, both home and as an IT tech, HP has a problem with their rollers wearing out too fast. That leaves the printer either with a very annoying squeak, possibly with sticking pages, or in need of a roller replacement, which for the home crowd often means "chuck it and buy another". I've not had a need to look at the home printers for a while, but Epson used to stand out to me because, unlike HP, you could buy individual colors for those times you use colored inks. With HP and several others, you waste ink because their tri-color packs wear out of one color faster than the other two. Epson's system allows you to fully use a color before replacement. Last I knew, they also had premium cartridges that delivered ink preventing running in case the papers got wet. Brothers were fine printers, but I've only worked with them in an office setting. I recall them having a higher up-front cost, but being more durable in the long run. I've not encountered an office one, however, in a few years, so things might have changed. PC Magazine just updated their home printers list for 2025. Because of their research and reviews, I often use them as a starting point for my own equipment research.
