Not really. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels the same way: we all operate from self-interest. I want what I want, and you want what you want. It's just basic human nature. The trouble comes when we start pushing our wants to the point of violating someone else's wants. "I dont' give a [expletive] if you... (etc.)" If the situation were reversed, and CoH already made all purples account bound, and I came along and said, "I suggest that we allow all purples to be sold on the AH," then the burden of proof would be on me to convince everyone to sacrifice what they want for what I want. But that's not the case here. The OP and you are arguing for a change to the way things are, so the burden of proof is on you to convince me and everyone else why we should give up what we want for what you want.
-
If we make purples account-bound, as proposed by the OP, then you wouldn't even be able to do that.
-
And thank you for proving my point in clear text.

Having worked in IT for large enterprises for almost 30 years, I can confirm that this is true. But I can also confirm that it's often the worst rationale for basing decisions, alone. I spend a lot of time explaining to execs that yes, while other companies do it, that doesn't mean that it's best for this one. Which is precisely the same reply my mom gave me when I was I kid.
-
Currently, if I don't want a purple, I can sell it for Inf to get something else I might want. I have agency and control in that case: I get to decide how I use the purple, and at what time, without being at the mercy of a RNG. That's not just opposing on principle.
-
So I'll repeat the question: "And what if don't want/need any of the purple conversions?" If I don't want/need the conversions, why shouldn't I be able to sell it on the AH, as I can now? Sure, I could move it around alts for eternity, but what if I believe that I'd derive more benefit than that by selling it? I'm not the one suggesting a change: I'm merely countering the suggestion. If I can't sell the purple on the AH, I'm forced to keep it or delete it, ultimately. That's what I meant by my follow-up question about forcing me to do things your way, instead of the current way.

Yes.

So you admit you were trolling from the start then?
-
So I have to do things your way and like it, then?
-
Then I suggest you return to those more successful games, as it appears that's what you really want. Many of us in this "unsuccessful" game would not welcome such a change. "But mom, all the other kids are doing it!" is never going to win arguments.

I agree that we need better drop rates in regular content, to make playing the game more rewarding than farming/playing the market. But making purple drops account-bound is still a bad idea.

True, but I doubt that making CoH more like FF or WoW is going to do anything about that, either. One of the many reasons I play CoH is precisely because it's not like FF or WoW. I know many other players who feel the same way. Grinding for purples isn't fun: it's tedious, and I don't think it belongs here. Citizen: "Help! The bank is being robbed!" Hero: "Not right now, I'm busy busting up this same drug ring for the 2,574th time in case I get the third piece of this purple set." Citizen: "But, but... the bank is being robbed!" Hero: "Buzz off, I'm busy."

Discussion: Disabling XP No Longer Increases Influence
Rathulfr replied to Jimmy's topic in General Discussion
Just wanted to emphasize this even more. -
This game was dead, and then resurrected, and now has more players than other MMOs that were online the whole time (I'm looking at you, CO). A game that was dead and buried and raised again: that's a Jesus game right there, son. We're still talking about that dude 2,000 years later. You don't get more "longevity" than that.
-
Ding! We have a winner. Keep that sh*t in other MMOs: don't drag it into this house. This is one of the many differences that makes CoH superior to those.

Powers that would need to change if Hasten gets nerfed
Rathulfr replied to Zepp's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Agreed, if they took it that far. I was discussing from the perspective of "any change to Hasten that would have no net nerf effect to recharge". In other words, if they simply moved Hasten to Fitness and left it at +50-70% recharge, so that it would no net effect on anyone's perma(blank) builds. If the net result didn't negatively affect perma(blank) builds, changing Hasten would still have other benefits that made it worthwhile, such as giving us more IO set slot flexibility or the functional equivalent a "fifth" power pool. In fact, this is what I was looking for when I suggested they add +15% recharge to Swift and "nerf" (gulp!) Hasten to +50% recharge to compensate, a few months ago. The intent was to buff +recharge for everyone across the board, without really "nerfing" anyone's Hasten-centric/perma(blank) builds. I figured that +15% Swift combined with +50% Hasten was a good compromise solution with no net-negative effect on anyone. But I'm not a math whiz, so I admitted I could be wrong about that. I figured we could let the smarter folks figure out the best balance of Swift+Hasten to get to the same net effect. -
And what if don't want/need any of the purple conversions? I'll just convert down to oranges and sell those on the AH, right? So what have we actually accomplished by removing purples from the AH?

Powers that would need to change if Hasten gets nerfed
Rathulfr replied to Zepp's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Not entirely pointless: if all they did was make Hasten an Inherent auto power (instead of a click), then that would open up an entire power pool for those builds where Hasten is the only power picked from that pool (it is in many of my builds, because I don't like Super Speed or the other powers in that pool). It would also increase everyone's recharge across the board, giving everyone a bit more flexibility in their build choices. Not everyone picks Hasten for perma(blank): some folks just take it for more recharge than they can get from IO set bonuses alone. Giving everyone that +recharge allows them to reconsider their set bonuses and might allow some to diversify a bit more. Of course, this would continue to contribute to power creep across the board, too. Which many can argue is a bad thing. I am just commenting that changing how Hasten works wouldn't necessarily be "pointless". -
Thanks for the clarification. I'm glad we can agree on something! LOL 😆

Are you /jrangering my /jranger, or the OP?

Yeah, I'd rather have the defense than the recharge. I find that too much recharge is often wasted, as it has diminishing returns and doesn't decrease cast time. I used to have Hasten and the Force Feedback proc in this build (at the expense of defense), and I found it only shaved about one (1) second off my rotation. Sure, it was handy for recharging the boosts (Aim, BU, PB, BR), but I rarely use them so I just didn't see the value in it. I want more defense to survive crowds long enough to set off Nova effectively. Stealth + Celerity helps, but it only goes so far. So giving up uber-recharge seemed like it had more value, to me. So yes, everyone can find their groove with different builds, which is why I love CoH over so many other MMOs. You just don't get the same flexibility in builds with other MMOs.

Oh, okay, that makes more sense. Done! Thanks!
