Prevent artificial inflation, please.

I've seen this approach before. The quoted comment fits the argument being torn apart in the video linked to below. Rather than actually discussing the principle and finding real data to anchor the conversation to, Veelectric Boogaloo has repeatedly used this sort of approach to deny there is an argument. Put aside the question of there being a problem or not; Why is the response presupposing that the O.P. should be dismissed? The O.P. is actually putting together data points with the help of others who are more informed (members of the staff). That evidently hurt a third party's feelings. If you'd like to be involved, that's great! Please refrain from personal attacks. Please refrain from lobbying for an end to the conversation. I've found the posts others have made, providing actual data rather than rude, dismissive, personal comments, to be much more beneficial than any mere perspective. Focus on data. Detach yourself from the issue and be clinical. You've provided your subjective perspective. We're trying to discuss objective matters. When things are subjective others are not compelled to agree with you.- 138 replies

The staff seem to have made a good faith attempt to converse here. There were many posts in this thread that I was awarding +1 Inf. to because I felt many participants, not just the staff, were making a lot of progress with reasonable discussion. I feel like for some reason, maybe talking about economics as a concept, made the rabble come out with pitchforks. Of conspicuous concern are some of the interjections that are unhelpful, dismissive, or personal attacks. If someone doesn't understand what is being said, the posts that are being quoted and responded to should be enough to contextualize. If that fails, asking for clarification is a good idea. If someone disagrees they don't have to continue to be a part of the conversation. Almost seems like they have set out to just derail a productive conversation. I felt that the staff were doing an excellent job, though. I'd rather not have to move this conversation to private messaging to avoid having the thread derailed, but I can do that if the staff send me a message.- 138 replies

I said basically the same thing earlier in the thread. There was a productive discussion with the staff going on where were were making progress in actually communicating about meaningful standards. The information I asked for was being provided, and I'm sure the staffers will continue to provide more. One point I feel is important to be cognizant of is that someone being wealthy in-game does not imply others deserve to be in-game poor. If you're making Influence that's great, but that doesn't invalidate others having needs. Confirming that I shouldn't feel a need to deal with the tainted market on the auction house was one of the things that the staff said that I'm considering the most important takeaway here. I have spent the past several weeks on the Archetype subforums reading, posting, and getting feedback on builds for multiple Archetypes. While being actively coached by this community's peers there hasn't been the perspective that these builds are "aspirational," but the thing you ought to be assembling so you can perform up to par. That's part of the reason I was asking for the staff to confirm what we were expected to be able to afford. Unfortunately, multiple responses since then seem to be accusing us of changing the conversation.- 138 replies

If you look back at the earlier posts in this thread O.P. has repeatedly asked for the staff to provide a guideline on what is expected for a player to do with their build by level 50. The staff responded that the crafting system is supposed to be used to fill all slots with Common I.O.s, and that's fine. If that's the standard then the game's N.P.C. stores and auction house are not helpful in the way they could be. The conversation of how to handle that and the conversation of the problem existing are two different things, and maybe should be in different threads.- 138 replies

We're discussing how much money someone should have. I'm trying to show there's a budget the player is working with, and they should be able to achieve something reasonable with that budget. I'm sorry if that wasn't clearer.- 138 replies

I made concerns clear. Your personal disagreement does not invalidate the concern. I asked for the staff to share metrics and they are. We are discussing how things are being worked on. I don't feel that such a dismissive tone is productive.- 138 replies

Then you aren't having the same conversation that the rest of us were. We are talking about the impacts an inflationary market has on a non-speculator's budget. As the staff and I previously discussed, we're talking about progress up to level 50 and what can be done with the budget the game gives you if you sell all of your drops up to that point. Based on that math there are two concerns: The information given to new players encourages them to play converter roulette instead of using the crafting system, which was created for them so that they could avoid the speculation on the auction house. The amount of Influence a player earns while leveling up isn't predictable, which leads to balance concerns. (Getting good data is hard.) The solutions to these need to begin with a new approach to guidance for new players.- 138 replies

You're getting to the party late, so I'll spare you some time by summarizing what was discussed later. You're making an argument for labeling the Archetype subforums as something to be avoided by the newer players, and that would leave them with nowhere realistic to go. (No, asking in /help in the game is not the solution.) A new player needs to be able to see a guide that just explains things like, "here are things you should skip, here are things you should add, here are your math-y goals, these Sets and these slots are your priorities."- 138 replies

I didn't realize the result was break points happened that sharply based on numbers of players. When we're talking about large amounts of Influence those numbers are definitely important. I'm going to think about this a bit.- 138 replies

We have N.P.C. shops that currently function as a n00b punisher. This is a video game. We are not trying to keep our population employed, we are trying to design a superhero game. In a video game there is no reason to use money at all unless you're fungifying awards so they can be spent on the vendoring prices.- 138 replies

Hold up, because of how the spawn rates are calculated, I don't think that adds a meaningful amount of variability. I don't think we're on the same page about how mobs-per-spawn and their tier is calculated, and this could be something that changed at some point or I have a misconception about, so I'll point out how I thought spawns were populated. My understanding of how the game decides on a number of bad guys for a spawn and what their mix is follows: The game's given a number of points, then multiples that by the number of players, then converts the points into a mix of mobs for the spawn. (My understanding is that spawns outside instances are varied based on guidelines for the zone or the last time they were killed instead of Notoriety/team size.) The rates of Minions per spawn versus Bosses per spawn is based on multiplying the number of players, but is usually consistent, right? If my understanding is accurate, that means per level of X.P. we should be working with a fixed baseline of Influence, right? Am I misinformed about how spawns are populated?- 138 replies

Without a recipe I can only craft an I.O. or buy something. If we're saying I may as well sell Enhancement Converters and buy stuff that's a very different conversation from using them to get the Sets I'd want. If we want both to exist that's lovely. Most of the participants in this thread want to use them and I would prefer not to. I'm concerned I have to if I want to achieve anything beyond Common I.O.s that I craft myself. If that's the baseline, nothing but a full array of level-even Common I.O.s I craft for myself, I can achieve that, but I'm doing so by selling everything I find and buying Salvage to craft with. (We do that all through Wentworth's, which is fine if that's what we're supposed to do, but I'd rather be able to use N.P.C.s' shops.) I want to point out what that means for me: Level up a character to level 50. Get all of the crafting Badges on them. Sell everything my other toons find at either an N.P.C.'s store or Wentworth's (depending on volume of purchases for the item). Send the Influence to my "crafter" toon. Make I.O.s and e-mail them back. Is this undesirable? I feel this will lead to there being one or two Enhancements that will always be in extreme demand because the money you have left over will go toward buying them on many toons, over and over, because they're generically applicable to many different builds (like with Luck of the Gambler right now).- 138 replies

I have similar views to yourself. Personally, I feel the post-50 content is different, and I am more concerned with how the post-50 content impacts lower level play. I think we can ignore high value drops as "pocket money" for the moment. Let them be spent on going above and beyond level-appropriate I.O. crafting. Aside from that I'd count everything you listed except intentional interference with the X.P. track. "Power leveling" and X.P. boosting are there, and we shouldn't take them away over this, but I don't think you need to count different routes for this reason: The amount of Influence awarded can be tracked per X.P. earned. That's your baseline for every other calculation. This amount should be roughly consistent, and should be easily trackable. The amounts earned through other means (except X.P. Boosters) are generally proportionate. The X.P. Booster just needs to be clear that the player is giving up their Influence awards for double X.P. instead. There are other Influence awards worked into the game, like the N.P.C. victims around Atlas Park (and other low level zones). If you wait for them to walk back up to you there's a trivially small Influence bonus as they say something like, "thank you, thought they would kill me." Are there any other rewards after level 20 that are not paired with an X.P. award but are statistically significant? (I didn't think of any; is this a thing?)- 138 replies

Unlike online games like Team Fortress 2 or Diablo 3, we don't have a third party tracking site that shows a market trend hour by hour across multiple months. That means the players can't, and shouldn't, have to learn the market memory for the item they're buying before the purchase. You're overlooking something here. In the scenario we were discussing I can show you why what you're saying about the market memory isn't actually a fact. I'm arguing that players should be able to show up to make a one time purchase without knowing the market memory already and without getting ripped off due to either insufficient knowledge or a market-inflated price. Right now that is happening. Can the full purchase histories for Set Enhancements (at least) be logged and posted somewhere conspicuous? If this was done I would totally agree with you.- 138 replies

The way I'm reading this is that the staff would prefer we flesh out builds by playing converter roulette. If that's what we're supposed to do that makes a lot of the rest of this mostly a matter of educating the playerbase. I can make Enhancement Converters a big deal. I guess I have to live with that.- 138 replies
