Prevent artificial inflation, please.

Since you have the numbers, in the staff opinion, how much should a build cost? Does the staff want players to fund their builds through conversion-speculation?- 138 replies

Prevent artificial inflation, please.

Important question: How much Influence do the moderators feel an average build should cost to put together? Players that want to have a build consistent with the rest of the community's guides should not have to become market speculators to afford them. I feel like there's ample reason to see problems down the road. Here are some hits from the Market subforum: https://forums.homecomingservers.com/topic/6063-whats-considered-a-lot-of-wealth-in-the-game https://forums.homecomingservers.com/topic/5927-lotg-proc-manipulation https://forums.homecomingservers.com/topic/6605-craft-convert-detailed-step-by-step-guide https://forums.homecomingservers.com/topic/6392-converters Take the time to read the first page for each of these and you'll get the sense the market is not accessible for those who don't want to do things like converter shenanigans. Players can go beyond just earning Influence in game, they can manufacture massive amounts of Influence through a synthetic process. Players already have enough money that prices are artificially forced upward toward the Merit-calculated caps for them. Players are forced to engage in a non-gameplay behavior to fund their gear. This "big money" problem will get worse as time goes on.- 138 replies

Check out the powers tab of that spreadsheet. You may want to bandage your head first. Don't want the pieces to go all over when your mind is blown. -

What happened to L.o.t.G. isn't the specific thing this is about. I'm complaining more generally about the economy not being managed. There is a reason to make every toon have everything they could, and that leads to hoarding. Hoarding requires exploitative practices. Ergo I expect inflation to continue.- 138 replies

Background for readers who may not be aware: Because of the way Enhancement Converters can be used to speculate using the conversion system the players who work to make money at Wentworth's are able to hoard Enhancements that would otherwise be lowering the price on the auction house. This is likely to continue to happen, and as more Influence enters the economy (from defeating bad guys) this will drive inflation. One way the moderators were able to forestall a rapid runaway market was to seed the auction house with cheap common and uncommon salvage before opening to the public. (This is why there are ten million or so of every common salvage available for $1 000 each.) What happened earlier this month: As you are no doubt aware, there is consistent demand for the special Luck of the Gambler Enhancement that reduces global recharge. The price has been consistently dropping (to about $7-8 million), which was making them affordable for "regular" players. Then someone purchased all of them from the auction house and relisted them all for $12 000 000. This kept the market from making the Enhancements available to non-speculators. Problems in dealing with this: There are several things the moderators could do to address the issue. My personal thought is that there are fundamental flaws in how the Influence and Invention systems currently operate, and a larger conversation about how the in-game economy should work is merited. Barring that, just deciding to seed the "usual suspects" of Enhancements at some fixed market rate isn't going to do enough. Just like in real life some humans actually enjoy amassing wealth. I liked playing around on the auction house, then I found out that Enhancement Converters were being used to speculate. In a way this is a good thing, you know, since we don't have enough active accounts on 24/7 to fill the large demand perfectly calculated builds require. In another way this leads to levels of wealth that the system was not designed to accommodate. This game has an Influence cap and experience with other games says that seeding high end useful items will just turn those items into a different way to store any Influence you earned in excess of the cap. The hoarding will get worse as the items now have a guaranteed value they can store long-term in abundance. (For an example, see what happened on Team Fortress 2 with buds. Though in that case an economist actually suggested adding them so that exact thing could happen.) Trying to seed the auction house with Recipes instead seems like a practical idea, but that just shifts where the distortions happen (onto Rare Salvage), although this sort of stopgap is practical, and helps to influence players from speculation on those Enhancements, other recipes will be affected because they happen to share the same Rare ingredient. To summarize: Allow players that aren't trying to speculate on the auction house to buy what they're trying to buy. That means altering the @#$%^&*~! economy.

Erroneous Power Icon Fix Pack
Some Random User replied to Vanden's topic in Tools, Utilities & Downloads
I've downloaded the power icon fix pack and have started having trouble with some power icons working for powers but not for the /macroimage command. Could the icon fix pack be involved in the unexpected behavior of /macroimage command? -

Each of the Powersets has a "side-effect" that happens when most of their powers are used (fire does D.o.T., dark makes foes hit less often, etc.). If there was a single generic Enhancement that increased whatever the secondary effect was, would that change how you enhanced powers? If so, how? I know some of the numerically inclined would have a different answer based on how strong the effects were. Imagine something that "feels" about as noticeable as other Enhancements do.
-
The following additional Powersets could be proliferated as Sentinel Primary Powersets: Darkness Manipulation Darkness Assault Earth Assault Electricity Assault Electricity Manipulation Energy Assault Energy Manipulation Fiery Assault Fire Manipulation Icy Assault Ice Manipulation Mental Manipulation Psionic Assault Thorny Assault I don't want a Blast/Armor toon, I want a Manipulation/Armor toon! Let's make that happen!

Players have performed a data extract for the file names for the power icons so they can correctly use the /macroimage command. Unfortunately, the data they've put together doesn't always work in-game, such as for [Recall Friend]. Attempts to use the icon for that power yields the same "broken icon" as when garbage input is used for the icon's name. Several obvious possible names have been tried instead, but none of them actually result in the icon used for the Recall Friend power. This should be relatively easy for the Homecoming team to make a post about, with a table showing the icons in one column, the power name in the next column, and the /macroimage argument in a third column. I'm certain if someone who knows their way around the client looks into this there can't be much difficulty in providing a complete correct list like this. Edited to add this note: This turned out to be a bug introduced by a tool that was pinned by the staff in this thread. Without that tool being applied this bug does not exist. This conversation is being continued in that thread.

I was provided with a list of all of the possible icons for use with /macroimage and I wanted to post a U.R.L. so that others could benefit. Note that some of the file names don't seem to work with Homecoming, such as Recall Friend, which doesn't use the file name shown on this list. http://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1uHUi6BWFTYj4wbfGBs3LjZL88Fym6B-8EwDr18YZcY8/edit?usp=sharing

How often is a "proc per minute" anyway?
Some Random User replied to Some Random User's topic in General Discussion
I'm seeing a need to build a comprehensive reference for Homecoming's differences from other variations. There is no "easy in" for a returning or new-to-old-school-M.M.O.s player. The current Enhancement system is a big part of the confusion. You can intuitively see that player toons are far more capable than spawns of enemies, and part of that is the benefits Enhancements bestow. The biggest red flag I've seen so far was the new slash commands not having clear documentation. That means some players have tools and others don't. That's a big problem for long-term health of the game. As for P.P.M., we have had a burst of the coders showing more responsiveness to suggestions and requests, so I'd like to see if they respond to some of the suggestions in the Suggestions & Feedback subforum. -
I tried to post a guide to easy teleport binds, but the replies are saying there are new slash commands. I haven't found a list of all of those. They're not in the patch notes posted to this forum. Searches using search engines or on Reddit turn up lists for other forks of the server code (or incomplete lists). Can I get a list of all of the new slash commands and their flags/variables?

Yay! Let's talk about computer programming. When you try to paste the text widget needs to know what you're trying to do. That means you have to either have the widget notice the clipboard has spreadsheet info instead of just text. The problem is that spreadsheets are "delimited" in different ways, meaning the data in them is stored differently. (Most of them are just like .TXT with a tab between the cells, or a comma between the cells, etc.) That means you're never getting an "automatically knows" behavior. The ideal functionality may be to presume the user is copying from "tab delimited" because that's what both M.S. Excel and Liber Office Calc use. Tabs are also used at the beginning of every paragraph in a lot of text sources (which is why those spreadsheet formats used a tab between the cells). All of that means you're not going to have spreadsheet info automatically get recognized. I feel that just isn't practical to expect. If the coders who have to make this a reality want to fix things differently, that's fine. They should be competent and know how much time they don't want to invest in this trivial matter. A guideline I like to use is, "if I wanted to fix this, could I fix this in less than an hour?" Going by that standard what we can expect is something more specific. How about this simple approach: "If the cursor is in a table that's already been created for the post, anything pasted interprets a tab as moving to the next cell." This would require you to make a table first, but would let you drop pasted data into the post quickly.

VidiotMaps for Issue 24 and Beyond
Some Random User replied to Blondeshell's topic in Tools, Utilities & Downloads
This is very good. I would like to recommend you add a side-by-side, of an unenhanced map and the enhanced map, to the original post (or the immediately following post) so users have some idea of what the advantages really are in-game. -

I see evidence of you playing Dungeons and Dragons but no evidence of which edition you were playing (please respond with, "Pathfinder").
