Dark / Savage Build - Shadowdruid Concept (Looking for pointers!)
Calamity Cain replied to Calamity Cain's topic in Dominator
Gotcha. I take it all the fancy procs are good for extra damage, and diversified damage at that? I feel like it must be worth it to lose out on all the set bonuses in @oedipus_tex's build? Also, more on the idea of a "barrier build", since I'm a newb: do you mean that your fearsome stare and other holds end up reducing ToHit to the point that your defense is softcapped? So like, your holds are your barrier? Not exactly sure what you mean @Frosticus.- 16 replies

Dark / Savage Build - Shadowdruid Concept (Looking for pointers!)
Calamity Cain replied to Calamity Cain's topic in Dominator
Hm, I'll have to consider all the Procs. Is it worth it? I actually didn't consider taking Possess for that Contagious Confusion proc - I hear that's fun! I notice both of you don't bother with Vicious/Maiming Slash and Rending Flurry, leaving you with only the one attack and the teleporting Feral Charge. Why only those two? What's your guys' attack chains look like? When I tested on the Beta Server I was still figuring that out, but at +4/x8 Council I'd slam the mob with controls, then teleport in, build up Blood Frenzy, then unleash Rending Flurry. Then I'd mop up with my pets, Unkindness, and Call Hawk as necessary.- 16 replies

So I'm new to builds, but I'm learning bit by bit, mostly by cobbling together things other people do and playing around with stuff. Right now I'm set on a Dominator character. Rapid fire: Character concept is a villain akin to a Shadowdruid, so basically the evil counterpart to a druid. He can shapeshift into a werebear, cast shadow and weather magic, command animals, etc. Always PvE, and want to be successful both solo and on teams. Don't really need to solo AVs, though that'd be an added bonus. Cost is no object, really aiming for the stars here. Tested this for a bit on Beta, on a couple +4/x8 Council mishes and seemed pretty damn dangerous. I stitched this together based on a couple different Dark/Savage builds I saw around here. What I'm really looking for is general comments or criticism, as well as specifics as to things I may have missed or messed up. Still getting into meat of Mids Reborn and min/maxing, so I'm sure I overdid something here or undercut there. Let me know what you guys think! What is Titan Weapons like for Tankers?

Good point on the range of the attacks. TW has substantial reach, which I love. -
What is Titan Weapons like for Tankers?
Calamity Cain replied to TheGentlemanGhostronaut's topic in Tanker
Take this with a substantial grain of salt, as I'm a tanker rookie still, but TW hasn't been frustrating for me. My first tanker™ is a DA/TW and, while it's only gotten more fun as I gain levels, I didn't find it irritating in early game. Once I got the hang of Momentum and DA/TW's walloping END consumption. If you strategically leverage Momentum, your ability to pump out AoEs means you gobble up mobs and hold aggro like a boss. You're probably right it loses points because there isn't even one quick attack in the set without Momentum, and fair enough. But as a Tanker, I found it easy to manage, especially with the help of Brawl and Sands of Mu early on. Again, I'm new at the AT. I dare say that maybe TW shouldn't have been given to Scrappers. Given that ATs general role in team play I could definitely see how TW would be vexing in exactly the way you described. -
Like Sinatra said, "Nice & Easy does it everytime". 😛 Thanks for the input. First I gotta level this sucker then I can really play with some of your guys' suggestions!

So that's my first crack at it, taking a cue from you oldskool. Again, complete noob but I just go with what seem to be the best sets from other builds I've checked out. I don't care about cost atm. Total pie in the sky, just to explore what a good build can do. Some questions off the bat, since I'm not always sure what I'm looking at in mids: Do I need Cardiac (and/or Ageless) if I've slotted decently for EndMod? Or is the amount of slots I'd need to make up for those Incarnate bits too many? Being a Tanker, should I slot "Taunt" more? Or does real tanking rely more on the taunt aura I've been hearing about to attract aggro? What's your recommended attack sequence for Titan Weapons, and how should that affect my slotting? I maxed out the attacks that seemed like my real killers, both for bosses and mobs.

Alright, since hopping on Homecoming I've been paying much more attention to my build. I'm a roleplayer at heart and so it never mattered much to me back in Live, but it's been fun to dive in and really make a character shine in combat. Y'know, actually playing the game can be fun too. 😛 I always stayed away from Tankers because it never felt right to me - and after looking into it I think it's because Tankers take some understanding to work properly. You aren't just a hittin' stick - which is my default mode - your job is to take hits and keep attention on you. If you can kill a bunch of stuff too, all the better. Well I also found out you need to mind their build to fill this role adequately on any given team. I rolled a Dark / Titan tank. It's my understanding this combo is gonna be an end hog. Since I'm a newbie at builds in general, and at Tanking, I was hoping I could get some pointers on a build for this guy. I've attached my end-game build, but it's way incomplete. If someone has an existing Dark/Titan build, I'd love to see it! But even just some pointers on power selection, slots, and which sets to aim for. Goals for the build: Tankitude: I want to actually be able to play Tank in most teams and do the thing where I aggro the mobs for my teammates and never die. End Management: I hate running out of Endurance. Help me make sure that never happens. Murder: While I wanna take a hit, I'd love to be able to deal the hurt as well. Decent leveling: I'm not against PLing, but if I could manage to level normally with a survivable, end efficient build that'd be cool too Decent cost: If it's expensive, it's expensive, but if I don't have to farm for months just to finish the build I'd be thankful. The MacGyver Manual, or "You used X to make Y?!?"
Calamity Cain replied to Raevyn_Darke's topic in Base Construction
Oh I loooove this thread. Dat coffee maker though. I'mma steal that if you don't mind. 😋 Here's another thing I did: in-house photo studio. My character "Lion-Heart" has something of a deep dark secret 😎, and I wanted to convey that. We have so many options in the base editor now: why not build temporary sets for cool screenshots you can't get out in the world? You can squeeze quite a bit more detail out of an image and also get symbolic if you like. -
I should also note that while popping back to a single display fixes the problem in-game, screenshots taken while in-game still come out fairly dark, regardless of the gamma value.
-
I have this exact same issue. I think the issue is tied to the display settings somehow, because when I use my dual screen setup? I have the same problem you do. But when I revert to my default screen, the issue resolves and I can adjust gamma to my liking (thank God, because it is painfully dark otherwise). I'd try doing the same to see if we have the same result. Attached is my DXDiag info. If you don't use dual screens, or don't get the same result, I hope you find a solution! DxDiag 10-4-2019.txt

Does not the fact that Homecoming exists count as data? Somewhere in the equation? Let me explain: it's perhaps not as material as you'd like, but the fact that the same team who not only managed a major part of this game's revival and continued to build on it - in ways we couldn't have even imagined just a year ago - that team is now arguing on our behalf in legitimate negotiations with NCSoft. This attempt doesn't strike me as "more of the same". None of the previous efforts strike me as approaching this one's level of clout. Who else but the Homecoming team has produced something like what we're playing right now? Who else has managed the return of thousands of players to the game? This game's servers are more stable than Champions Online, a "legit" superhero MMO. All that without a dime of profit. I can't imagine all that wouldn't get NCSoft's attention in a way previous attempts to negotiate did not. I understand your point of view, and I don't want you to shut up, personally. Maybe you still need more details to abate your anxiety about that hanging sword, and fair enough. But I hope you'll at least take the above into account. While not fully concrete, this isn't just flowery words. If Homecoming were just a message board with a kickstarter or GoFundMe? Then I'd be more inclined to agree with you. But this team didn't just sit around and wish for things to happen, stringing their community along. They've made things happen. This team has follow through. That's worth a little faith, in my estimation, no matter that it may be slim odds. Lastly if TonyV's last post didn't sway you, perhaps this is where this part of the conversation ends. It seems a perfectly reasonable reply to points like yours, and if you're still not convinced, that's just how it will have to be.
-
I can't tell right now if this affects all characters, as I hadn't really tweaked my settings to a noticeable degree until settling on the character where I began to notice this issue. Right now things seem to be stable and I can save and load settings like normal. Yesterday they reset to an inverted mouse, and I simply loaded my settings from file which cleared it up. I will keep an eye on it over the next couple days and log into a few different characters, and keep you posted. Thanks for the response!
-
Your words: "Hahahahahaha .... You are incredibly naive if you think NCSoft won't stomp CoH into the dirt all over again at the slightest excuse. All this negotiation does is give them an easy vector to squash the whole thing at once." Perhaps "maniacal laughter" would have been more appropriate a description? It's not as if "disgust" redeems your words any further. You're still not getting it. We aren't taking NCSoft's word here. We're taking the Homecoming Team's word. Beneath the coils of your so-called snake is this game's future, and they're reaching for it anyway. It's better than languishing in bitterness.
-
Listen, I'm pretty ignorant on how Live got shutdown; I left close to a year before it all happened. I can see there's plenty of animosity about it, and no wonder. This game means a lot to us. But I see two problems with this bitterness I'm getting from your comments: 1) You're assuming spitefulness before stupidity, and it should be the other way around. Yeah a bunch of you got rubbed raw by what happened, and given NCSoft's lack of explanation, you're prone to fill in the blanks yourself. But to assume they "stabbed us in the back", an accusation of malevolence, smacks more of projection on your part. It seems more likely that it was one of many decisions made for reasons we can't rightly place without speculation, and just because you're personally offended doesn't mean the decision to pull the plug was personal, even if you'd prefer it that way. 2) Furthermore, if you believe wholeheartedly that NCSoft is just raring for another chance to betray you, perhaps you should think twice about enjoying Homecoming at all. Seriously, the people who are dumping their heart and soul into keeping this game afloat (without pay) are willing to try. What are you doing? You reap the benefits of these people's hard work by playing for free, only to mouth off with glee about how ill-fated their efforts are? That's vile, and you should be ashamed. You wouldn't even be here without the Homecoming team, so be a little more respectful while you still enjoy the fruits of their labor.

Just adding my two cents to balance the scales. I understand people are cautious with their hopes. But some are far too cautious, if you ask me. These people are daring to do the right thing here. The least we can do is dare to hope that it works out for the best. I'm not naive, but a little faith might go a long way here. Thanks you guys for giving it a shot, no matter how it turns out. Happy you guys are going up to bat for the community, because somebody has to.
-
This has been a recurring problem for some time, and used to happen every once in a while. Now, since the last major patch, it happens every time I log in. Even after saving all my options to file, my in-game settings reset to default every time I log in. Things like mouse inversion, chat logging, audio settings, etc. Only graphics settings seem to be unaffected, strangely enough. Why is this?
