  1. It's all a Nemesis plot. Everything is a Nemesis plot. Unless it's a Nemesis Pot or Nemesis Mop.
  2. I haven't heard that song in a long time. Another fun one is "Poisoning Pidgins in the Park".
  3. I don't know, a petless mastermind can still contribute to a team. They might solo slowly, but they can still solo. On the other hand, the classic 'healer' build is far worse. What is the classic 'healer' build? It's an Empathy/doesn't-matter defender or doesn't-matter/empathy controller. Any aoe or single target heals? grab them asap. Rez ability? Grab it too. Buffs? Unneeded because you are a 'healer'. Attacks or control powers (if a controller)? Take the one you're forced to have at level 1, then immediately remove it from your power trays. It'll never get used. For pool powers grab your travel power of choice and the First Aid pool. And maybe leadership too since you're going to have so much room in your build. But don't actually use the Leadership toggles if you can help it because those aren't heals. If you're forced to take anything that isn't a heal or rez, remove it from your power tray asap because it's never going to be used.
  4. The AH doesn't inform the buyer what the sellers are asking. Nor does it inform the sellers what the buyers are offering. What it does instead is it matches the lowest selling price to the highest bid and tells people what the last 5 or 6 sales went for. This makes market manipulation nearly impossible since if you try cornering the market and posting for obscene amounts of Inf you'll never make a sale, while constantly getting undercut by people with more reasonable pricing. So, where is the life hack? You can ensure rapid sale of most things on the AH by posting it for 10 Inf. This is high enough to make a profit (assuming it was gained as a drop rather then bought). But low enough that it's the most likely one to get sold to the highest bidder. I've used this method reliably both on the official servers and here in Homecoming to make bank even at low levels with common recipes and salvage. If you're patient you can also get most anything on the AH incredibly cheep. This works in a similar fashion to the selling trick. Post a bid for a low but reasonable amount. For common salvage and level 15 generic IO recipes I tend to bid 500 inf each. Then just wait a while. This works particularly well if there's thousands (or millions) of the item listed for sale, and hundreds of bids just sitting there due to the sellers wanting unreasonable amounts. Someone (like me) will come along and post what you're bidding on cheep, and if you're patent you'll be able to snag what you want/need this way. Heck, I've seen 'last five sales' listings showing rare salvage getting sold for 1 inf before due to everyone always listing rare salvage for tends of thousands of inf, except someone who listed it for 1 inf to try making a quick sale. Since the minimum AH fee is 5 inf, I'd recommend posting for 10 inf at minimum if you wish to make a profit.
  5. No, they're CoT/Hellions/Sky Raiders. I... think that one belongs in the CoH Dad Jokes thread... I feel both accomplished and dirty. I was going to make that joke... But I decided not to. It was too much of a groaner, and I knew it.
  6. I mean, I always heard they are. Was I lied to? Impossible!
  7. Fire blast always does the DoT, assuming the attack hits of course. Also assuming the enemy survives long enough for the DoT to start.
  8. One thing that CoH gets right that is horrible in CO is escort missions. Do you have some sort of healing ability? If not, you're going to struggle with every single escort mission in CO. Regardless of who you are escorting and why they need an escort, they all want to punch every villain mob they see. And enemies are more then happy to repay the favor. And if you can't heal them, you're probably going to fail almost every escort mission you pick up. Every escort mission will also be in the overworld, where in addition to the ambush mobs you'll have to worry about the npc you're suppose to protect running off to punch a random enemy that just respawned nearby. There's a reason why most of my freeform builds end up with the support drone pet power. They need it just to keep the escort npcs alive. Contrast that with CoH escort missions. Enemies wont actively attack the person you're escorting unless they are a combat assist ally. And those rarely are mission critical. If they are mission critical, then they can hold their own, regen damage taken between fights, and wont be running off in all directions just because they saw someone to punch. Instead they wait for you to engage an enemy, then only fight enemies you're engaged with. You also don't have to escort them through outdoor areas with fast respawning enemies in tightly packed groups.
  9. I don't think they stopped it. But the in-game ads weren't exactly prominent. It was only a few of the billboards on each faction, and easy to miss them. Of course because these in-game ads weren't egregious and were easy to overlook, people forgot about them existing. Which in turn likely caused advertisers to decide it wasn't a good investment. As I recall, when the in-game ad billboards didn't have a paid sponsor, they would show an ad for a in-game business like City of Gyros and City of Vegans.
  10. The DoT component of a fire blaster's attacks are bonus damage. The burst damage is in the same league as other Blaster sets. It's only if you give every attack's DoT time to finish that it does the most damage. Most of the time you'll find that you don't get the full DoT from any given attack, even if you're soloing. This is because you yourself are killing enemies before the DoT can tick more then once or twice.
  11. Gimme a few minutes. I need to log in and check the numbers. EDIT: Huh, it doesn't actually give the numbers in the power. You might need to check the buff/debuff icon when you use it.
  12. Of course. A horse is a horse? Of course of course, and who ever heard of beating a dead horse? Unless the horse, is of course, the famous Mr ED. +1 Inf. Thank yuh, thank yuh very much. Although, that's a reference which is rapidly fading into obscurity.
  13. Honestly I thought it looked worse. From a technical aspect it was superior. The models were higher poly, better textures and they had basic face expressions (and fingers!) I just did not like the overall art design of the game. Everyone looked too goofy. I also found the animations a step back from CoH's. In CoH animations have a lot of weight and windup, with nice payoffs. CO was just spastic and awkward feeling in the animations department. And that likely is due to the fact that each one needs to be able to be chained with any other animation. Sword swing to calling a robot? Sure! Firing a machine gun then immediately using a chainsaw mounted on your wrist? Go for it. Every combat ability has to be usable with no delays with every other combat ability. And they all need to be interruptible so you can block.
  14. Amusingly I recreated my three mains from before, but in the reverse order. Arachnid Huntress was the last of my 3 mains I made and the first to be reborn in Homecoming. Poison Bloom was my first villain, and my villain main for a long time. She has rebranded herself as Mistress Poison after sacrificing her ninja clan to dark powers and gaining control over a horde of demons. And Madam Enigma, my first ever character in CoH was remade last.
  15. A character I'd made before the servers were originally shut down was an Elec/Elec brute who's backstory was that he was a high school football star who's coach was obsessed with winning, so doped the team with an experimental and unstable performance enhancer. Now, this football star wasn't particularly bright. Too many blows to the head, and all that. So he decided to call himself Shock Jock.
  16. I'd had a similar issue with a different mission. I needed a key to get past the a door and fight the mission boss, only the glowie with the key was on the other side of the door. I'd had to reset the mission to fix it. More annoying, a couple days ago I had Keystone spawn on the wrong side of the door you need to defeat him to open. Once again, resetting the mission solved the problem. But it was annoying.
  17. Of course. A horse is a horse? Of course of course, and who ever heard of beating a dead horse? Unless the horse, is of course, the famous Mr ED.
  18. Yep I did this with my first room in Live, I was on a team too and by the time I made it halfway across the Hollows the team had defeated Frostfire and I had done nothing to help. <geezer voice>, you young-ins don't know how good you got it. Back when I first started when we were defeated in the Hollows we had to go to the Hospital in Atlas Park, and then run all the way back to Hollows, thru 2 ft of Hellions, going uphill both ways, without a major travel power, then through 20 ft deep trenches of trolls and igneous. Darn whippersnappers Yeah, I was so happy when they added both a trainer and field hospital to the Hollows during the attempt to launch CoH in Korea.
  19. Champions Online did allow me to finally make an exact copy of an old Heroes Unlimited (then later Mutants & Masterminds) character, complete with laser vision, right from the get go. On the other hand the version I made in City of Heroes felt truer to the original character despite not being able to pick up a 'laser vision' type power until the 40's. What's the difference between having super human reflexes, being virtually invulnerable, or having regeneration? In Champions Online the difference is... actually not very much. But in City of Heroes there's a noticeable difference between the various defensive sets. Super Reflexes and Ice Armor both provide Defense, but have a very different feel to them due to what types of Defense they provide impacting what types of attacks they are protected from at any given level. Invulnerability, Fire Armor, and Dark Armor might all provide Resistance, but they all feel and play a bit different. Invuln will laugh off normal enemies, wince a little when elemental damage types come after them, and be terrified of psi damage. Fire on the other hand winces a little when dealing with thugs armed with sledge hammers or guns, laughs at fire and energy attacks, and worries about psi damage. Dark Armor meanwhile isn't able to take as much punishment as either of the previous two out of the gate but has a very strong self heal to make up for that. Oh, and Dark Armor laughs at the very concept of psi damage, Yet it also dreads knockback and knockdown, something other Defensive sets don't worry about.
  20. I remember a short comic strip in one of the CoH comic issues featuring a neophyte hero. "Level six! YES! I can fly now!" *two hours later the young hero has barely made it half way across the street* "Level six sucks..." I laughed so hard because it was so true. I had a friend who used Hover to get around in the Hollows safely. And it took him forever to reach his missions.
  21. I was providing the raw damage numbers to show that Dark Blast's damage is not only on par with the other sets, but that the supposedly 'low damage' cone immobilize actually does have roughly the same damage as other cone attacks. Granted, because it's an eight second DoT you're probably not going to see the full damage all the time. And also due to it being an 8 second DoT it can seem weak due to individual ticks of damage appearing to be for small amounts. I also was showing the raw damage numbers to illustrate how the targeted aoe attacks tend to be a bit weaker then your T2 single target attack, at best, if you look at damage to an individual enemy. The secondary effects can be important factors too. -Def means you don't have to slot quite as much ACC to connect reliably, while -res gives you an overall boost to damage dealt. -to-hit or -dam help keep you safe by reducing the amount of incoming damage you're taking. As does knockback.
  22. Hmmm, I will take a look at that when I get off from work. If this is correct, then I appreciate the info. I'll go in-game to grab the numbers for what the various targeted aoe do at level 50 now. Mind you, they wont be the enhanced values, just base ones. But it should give you an idea. Remember, this is just the targeted aoe. Not location based aoe or tier 9 attacks like Nova Dual Pistols rain of bullets: 3 ticks 14.58 lethal damage over 1.1 sec, 3 tics 6.26 lethal damage over 1.1 sec, total damage of 62.52 damage at level 50 if unslotted Archery Explosive Arrow: 18.77 Smashing damage, 37.54 lethal damage, total damage of 56.31 at level 50 if unslotted Assault Rifle M20 Grenade: 18.77 smashing, 37.54 lethal, total of 56.31 damage at level 50 if unslotted Beam Rifle no aoe beyond the 9 nova Fire Blast Fireball: 12.51 smashing, 43.79 fire, 3 ticks of 9.38 fire over 2.1 sec after a 0.5 sec delay, total of 84.44 damage at level 50 if unslotted Psychic Blast Psionic Tornado: 5 ticks of 11.14 psionic damage over 4.1 sec, total damage of 55.68 at level 50 if unslotted Radiation Blast Neutron Bomb: 56.31 energy damage on target Water Blast Water Burst: 14.08 smashing damage, 42.23 cold damage, total damage of 56.31 at level 50 if unslotted As for cone attacks, Umbrial Torrent does 60.06 neg energy damage and Tenebrous Tentacles does about 58.5 damage (but takes 8 seconds for all the damage to be applied). Compare this to the average damage of cone attacks in other sets, which is on average about 57-65 damage, with fire blast and Ice Blast being outliers. Water Blast also does far more damage with it's cones, but then again this also isn't a set which to my knowledge was released on the old Live servers. It was still in testing, so it not being balanced like the others makes all kinds of sense. EDIT: The main reason fire blast universally does more damage then other sets is because it's attacks all have a damage over time component in addition to the burst damage. The burst damage is in line with other cone and targeted aoe attacks, with the DoT pushing things higher. Which also means that much of the time you're not getting the DoT damage due to enemies dying too fast for it to matter. I think Ice Blast gets more base damage due to it's attacks having longer recharge, but can't exactly remember.
  23. To start with, I was part of the CO closed beta. I was also a (heavily addicted) City of heroes player at the time. And I liked Champions enough that I preordered the game. So by no means should you take what I'm about to say as me hating on Champions Online because it's not City of Heroes. The first thing you need to know is that Champions Online didn't replace City of Heroes, although that might have been the intention of Cryptic. They sold the rights to the game to NCSoft (which might have been a mistake). Both games were running side by side for years, but Champions Online struggled from the get go. As I recall, Champions Online was one of the first subscription based MMOs to go free to play. City of Heroes didn't opt to go free to play till late in it's life, and only really got shut down because NCSoft didn't care about the game. At the time of it's shutdown City of Heroes still had a very sizable player base and there was a new major content update announced and in closed beta testing, with open beta testing expected to begin soon. But because City of Heroes flopped in Korea, NCSoft didn't really care about the game. So with multiple MMOs in development which they thought would be a hit in Korea, they decided to shut down City of Heroes. Now, during the closed beta through first month of Champions Online's launch I played it a lot. And it lost my interest in that time for a few reasons. Among them is how shallow Champions Online is. No, not in the character creator aspect. That's pretty deep. And (if you have freeform builds) power frameworks are a very robust system. The problem is that 90% of the quests amount to forgettable street sweeping. Nothing ever changes, and it feels like your character never accomplishes anything. You grow ever more powerful, but it doesn't matter. You'll still go down like a scrub if you dare take on more then 3 (maybe 4) enemies at a time. City of Heroes on the other hand, while your enemies grow stronger your capabilities more then keep up with them. While at level 5 you might struggle to defeat a single even level hellion or skulls boss, by level 25 you're likely engaging multiple bosses at once plus their minions. While doing missions the bad guys recognize you. As you complete story arcs you get items which let you read about and remember the adventures you had. Your previous adventures get mentioned by later contacts and enemies while doing missions, thus giving you the feeling that you're actually making a difference. While from a technical standpoint Champions Online might be a better game, it comes across as a shallow imitation of City of Heroes. And it always has.
  24. I've ran multiple characters who didn't even use Ninja Run. In large part because that was a vet reward, and thus not available till late in the game's life.
  25. Not to mention the claim that TT does 'crap' damage is directly counter to the fact that the damage is on par with all other cone attacks a blaster might have. Also, those 'explody' aoe do worse damage then you claim, they just do it to a larger number of enemies thus do more damage overall. Same with cone attacks. Thus a Dark Blast/* blaster isn't sacrificing damage to get a cone immobilize, they are getting the same damage they would have that is also a cone immobilize.
