How do you circle that square?
Scarlet Shocker replied to Glacier Peak's topic in General Discussion
I honestly think that the OPs initial premise is borked. I don't think too much needs to be offered for "new" players that they don't have in the game already. Sure, it's not graphically as lovely as the latest blockbuster, but that isn't the point. The lore, the richness of the game play, the character creator offer a brand new player a whole range of great experiences. It's important to note that many modern games deliberately aim for a retro look, mimicking the old school days of Amigas and Ataris, of Commodore 64s and Spectrum 48s. Do we need to update it just to please new players? Is that going to benefit the game and community? I would argue that the game still stands as is, and doesn't need much tweaking to help it thrive. A new player who is worried solely by the look of the game is unlikely to be satisfied by anything other than the latest photorealistic gameplay (but was quite happy with less realistic games previously) so we gain almost nothing but may cause grave pains generally. If it ain't broke, as the saying goes. My square has perfectly rounded corners.- 73 replies

Fixt that for you -
There are other games that have "prettier" character creators - and some offer many different items - but very few are as well laid out or as intuitive as the one that we have. It seems your complaint is more related to the basic modelling in our game, not the options, the ability to place. Champignons Online has a pretty good creator from memory, but it lacked options and the whole cartoony thing annoyed me greatly. YMMV. Similarly The Secret World arguably had better graphics but their character/costume options were limited and so it lacks the out of the box flexibility.
-
Still is. I've not seen any creator page that offers the versatility that we have. That's 2 decades after it was launched

Lots of good responses here. My own experience leads me to believe that Hamis are excellent supplements to a good Set build. Adding a couple of Hamis to a build can help round it out when you either aren't going to get a good percentage benefit from sets or you have a power that's just lacking some extra "oomph" and only have limited slots. My basic rule of thumb is that if I have more than 3 slots need filling, then sets and/or procs go in them. But if I just have one or perhaps two at most that need something and there's nothing much gained from set bonuses, Hamis are a good option. I might add a hami to a set of 4 Set IOs - but that would be rare. It's a case by case, given the needs of your character and play style. Unless of course you decide to six slot Brawl with Hamis, just for the crack

Nice costume! (too bad it won't be around long)
Scarlet Shocker replied to cranebump's topic in General Discussion
Can I get a serious point of clarification: If I were to create an original character who accidentally resembled an existing comicbook character what would the outcome be if it was reported? (in other words, I'm not trying to rip any IP off but the costume might be said to look similar) -
In a nutshell I use Tartaerus for all the powers on Tray 1 and the Naga for all the powers on Tray 3 (Tray 2 has all the powers I want to use but don't need a superfast click)

Razer Tartarus and Naga Chroma. A billion buttons at my finger tips. And I'm still crap 🤣

I have a disco themed toon, Earth Wind and Fire (I only player her in September, obviously) but as a Fantasy character, she does pretty well. She is an Earth/Storm/Fire controller. and she can certainly Boogie Wonderland but Wind Control would be an entirely different conformation - probably something like Wind/Thermal/Stone and that doesn't move me. So After the Love Has Gone I'll just have to see if I can dual box to see which Let's Groove the best.

Why is power armor so uncommon in NPC groups?

Why is power armor so uncommon in NPC groups?
Scarlet Shocker replied to biostem's topic in General Discussion
Crey is an obvious candidate but you might argue that Freakshow and even Vazhilok use powered armour... although the latters' is organic (ie other people - a literal meat shield) -
Just because it can, does not mean it will. I remember on live there was a furore regarding a powers sound FX and that took a while to fix (working from memory is that Elec Control?)
-
Couldn't watch all of that but things I noted: The sound FX are awful - made my ears cringe Whichever server he's playing on his Goldside has more players than HC; 1>0 Level 3 Power:

TYDKYDK*: When Brubaker wrote the Captain America death arc as the finale of Civil War, it was broadcast on the BBC Radio 4 5pm news programme. Eddie Mair, the presenter and a highly respected journalist announced it as a headline: "The man who punched Hitler on the nose is dead" I interviewed War Witch in 2008 at the CoH Mini-Con at Omega Sektor in Birmingham. She is adamant that the 5th Column do not represent Nazis. Both Council and 5th are fascists. Given that she was lead dev at the time, I consider that lore but I know why people assume otherwise. Either way, it does feel exceptionally good to put a fascist out of my misery in any universe. I like both factions as an enemy group and despite its flaws, the Reichman s/tf (both sides) is fun and remains challenging even for incarnates, and doesn't take too long but importantly, can still be failed (I consider that to be a good thing - no TF should be able to be completed by idle button mashing IMNSHO) It's one of my favourite options, especially Kahn, simply because the waves of 5th at the end can be a bit tedious if you don't have the teamage to deal with them in short order. But another reason to enjoy them is that they have such rich lore in game. They do seem to have had plenty of positive Dev attention over the years. Perhaps because as players we can all recognise the threat that fascism represents, which is more real than the magic of Circle of Thorns or the alien culture of the Rikti, et al.

What AT/powerset keeps you playing?
Scarlet Shocker replied to alphamax's topic in General Discussion
I find myself on hiatus currently but I always revert to controllers. I love the AT in all its forms but I suspect one reason is that it's so unique amongst games. I tend to game quite defensively so the idea of locking down and tickling to death while remaining relatively safe appeals a lot to me. If you want a devastating controller have you tried Dark/Poison? -
honoroitisfantastic Would you pvp for prisms?

Scarlet Shocker's Summer Supreme Thread: Cricket goes Global!
Scarlet Shocker replied to Scarlet Shocker's topic in Off-Topic
Wow... what a lot to process. Ashes 2023 Regardless of the result, it was exciting and disappointing in equal measure. The declaration at Edgbaston was a dreadful mistake IMO but it did make for an exciting game and England gifted the Aussies the first two tests. There were runs, wickets, a bit of controversy - especially that run out! but overall the series was played in great spirit and whatever side of the fan club you sit you probably weren't too disappointed. But of course the biggest news was Stuart Broad and his retirement after taking over 600 test wickets. A great servant to English cricket and somebody we'll miss very much moving forward. -
