  1. Some useful info here thanks. This thread came about because of here: I had the concept and it's not really worked. I've decided I don't much like Symphony, and I've never been greatly into mental powers despite their utility. However I thought I'd try a new concept Dominator, all vegetable, plant control, thorny assault hero who I've named Noble Cabbage Wish me luck!
  2. Maybe it's a gut feeling and he's yet to do it? The name is simply a handy mnemonic reminder
  3. Kind of makes sense. Before I joined ('06) but I think he'd taken a big back seat from it by then. Thanks for the input
  4. I've never read that but given they gave us real numbers must've been back in the earliest days so I'm wondering if a Dev Named Jack was the culprit?
  5. Am I wrong in the presumption of sarcasm here?
  6. I've never really played dominators as an AT. I've usually much preferred the way controllers play and their overall team benefits. I recently wrote about a concept toon (see General discussion for more info) and that did seem to lend itself to a dommi, which also allowed me to try a new style of play I'm less familiar with. Win win... or perhaps not. I've rolled a Symphony/Mind dom, and I've taken a heavy chunk of Force of Will, and the Leviathan PPP. It's not strong. It's very far from not strong. It's 50 now, and has a mostly stock IO build, no set bonuses, and Alpha slot is unlocked but empty. Domination isn't often up at this stage, but even allowing for this it seems lacklustre. I struggle with even con missions solo and for the most part control seems to be sub-par compared to other controlling ATs. Given that Symphony is meant to be pretty good (I've never played it before) and I have had good results with Leviathan and FoW in the past) I'm pretty disappointed. Endurance use seems to be very high without bonuses - higher than other ATs at this level I'd suggest and I find myself regularly gasping for breath mid-fight, like a pensioner who smokes forty fags a day sprinting up a hill. Have I missed anything blatantly obvious? Is it likely to improve once I've accumulated some set bonuses? It seems so far off the pace at this stage as to be almost junk, so I'm skeptical that it will improve that much. What is your advice to improve this toon's playability?
  7. This is really useful. I've been playing a Symphony/Mind dom and truthfully found it quite overwhelming. Doubly so, solo... I really struggled with the trapdoor mission at 0/+1 What am I doing wrong?
  8. Just a few thoughts; Plant/TA is a great controller combo. I note you've done something similar already so maybe Plant/Traps? Earth/Thermal is a fantastic support controller, and you can do a lot solo but you might find it too slow, but when teaming it can offer a great boost to all participants Dark/Poison is lethal. You can have a lot of fun with it, and it's tough and durable while making enemies melt nicely.
  9. useful, thanks. I rolled one yesterday, took it to level 10 just door knocking. It seems to work very well at those levels, so I have hopes for the future
  10. I've little experience of Dominators, but I've enjoyed a variety of Mind controllers. That said, A Mind/Rad Dommi strikes me as being potentially very potent, given that not much resists psionics well and the debuffs of radiation would complement that nicely. I am tempted to roll one myself
  11. Still living the Saxon drugs and rock 'n' roll life huh?
  12. Am I the only person who has no idea what's going on in this thread?
  13. I would like to offer a toon that has not so far been mentioned: A Huntsman SoA, but when you get your mandatory respec, take the centre path. Don't go for either SoA or Crab, just stick with the bloke with the gun. It is devatasting. The only weak point is a lack of hold. If you can get past that you can solo LGSF, you get some great pets and you're constantly delivering a sea of orange numbers. They are tough, survivable, and deal excellent damage with good crowd control. It's not fancy, it's not pretty, but it just bloody works!
  14. I don't use much social media - and Xitter seems to be anti-social media these days but the idea is solid in principle
  15. I never think of damage type or enemy resistances. I am quite happy to encounter Council however
  16. I played one once. I took it to level 49 and realised I just could not go with the slowness of it, no matter how strong it was, so it was consigned to Toonheaven
  17. Kill them! Kill them all!!!
  18. This is a testament to the amazing flexibility of this great game. I love how you're thinking too!
  19. I've created a few iterations across servers to try them them out and see how they play. I'm currently having a LOT of fun in Khalisti with a ToT team with a Symphony/Mental Dominator Interestingly, adding Wall of Force gives me a good choice of cones so I can get a nice number of bad guys lined up and give 'em the works so to speak, then pick the remainders off with ST powers. This could be fun. I love how many great suggestions you guys have come up with - this one is red side - but do you think there's mileage to be had in a aquatic based mind control SG?
  20. I did think about the trident option - the issue there is I'm not keen on melee toons generally and I dislike how staff fighting plays for me, but it's still a great suggestion.
  21. I think you'll find those were triffids
  22. *coughs* I'm going to be totally honest and say I didn't even notice that Mental Manipulation had been ported to Blasters - so no, not off the table, ignorance on my part. I did not look at blasters because a) I didn't think there would be powers to fit and I don't personally see the character as being all about the damage, more about control/debuffs - a somewhat sneaky thing that is untrustworthy. I had not considered the siren powers but this fits well with my internal concept - I do like the idea of a Symphony/Mind control character but that seems realistic only as a dominator - which I have minimal experience of so it would be a cool thing to try. This was kind of a core part of my thinking. Sharks - an affinity to Mako - the power of the ocean rather than Leviathan. I had also considered "Force of Will" pool as the primary component of her mental side - which is doable but then leaves gaps in other sets making it difficult to get other powers in. I'm seriously impressed by your input guys, many thanks. I am going to enjoy experimenting
  23. My urinal says "Armitage Shanks" but that's not true either! 🤣
  24. I was musing as I am oft wont to do and I came up with an interesting name for a character: Mesmermaid... I'm guessing you don't need me to explain in too much detail what her power sets should be. I thought to myself "I should try and make that in CoH" - so I logged in and tried to roll something appropriate. It's harder than it seems. Mind control/Psychic powers are readily available, as is Water Blast. But combining the two is not possible. It seems they are all primary (or secondary) sets (depending on your perspective and AT selection) After a few abortive attempts at... something I gave up and thought I'd throw it out here as a concept for you good people to get your teeth into. I'd love to hear your thoughts. I deliberately haven't shared my own thoughts into her abilities and powers, nor her looks. I have my mental concept but I'd really like for you guys to share yours without my colouring your ideas. Feel free to share everything.
