Elec/Elec - Blaster or Sentinel?

Keilis

Recommended Posts

I want to make a character with Electrical Blast, and the classic E3 Blaster seems like the obvious choice, but I'm starting to wonder if he might work better as a Sentinel.

If I recall correctly, the conventional wisdom is that the E3 is somewhat lacking in ST damage, but can drain a group's endurance as long as they can survive SC+PS.  Also, there's a hold in each of the Elecs, which seems very handy.  Fastsnipes are now a thing, but not consistently available to an E3.  At the end of the day, it may be a bit underpowered in ST performance, but it has some neat tricks and looks and feels awesome.  It can also be a bit dangerous, but one of main Blasters BITD was Fire/Fire/Fire, so I'm *very* familiar with the consequences of jumping into melee. :P

As a Sentinel, my blasts would be weaker... but I get Zapping Bolt (which seems amazing) over Zapp, and a version of Tesla Cage that does significant damage.  Zapping Bolt looks better than several other Sent "snipes" given its one-second activation time, and, while Fire/ already has Blaze and Eng/ has Power Burst, Elec/ doesn't have a T3 blast, so ZB can fill that role.  I don't know about any differences between the two ATs' version of VS.  From my secondary I get resist shields (though I doubt their usefulness), mez protection (I do not doubt its usefulness), and +20% recharge.  End-draining capacity seems intact, but I lose Build-Up and a second Hold.  I also lose the punches, but having an Elec melee character already, I'm not particularly married to the blaps.

I wonder whether, while other blast sets are weaker on Sentinel, Elec/ might actually be *stronger* on a Sentinel.  Even if that isn't the case, surely Elec/ loses less than most.  I'm happy to play an E3B, but the case for an E3S seems awfully compelling.  From the Blaster point of view, is there anything I'm overlooking?

I was wrong about my assumption that E3 wouldn't have consistent access to fast Zapp.  As it says in https://forums.homecomingservers.com/index.php/topic,1294.0.html, Blaster Tactics is now at 10%, so with a Kismet and a five-slotted Tactics, non-/Dev Blasters can all have fastsnipes all the time.

Indeed.  I'll need to put some thought into Enhancement Boosters and what set bonuses I want to keep at what levels, but I think this'll be my starting point.

60.19% To-Hit, 40% End

Level 14: Tactics

  • (A) Gaussian's Synchronized Fire-Control - To Hit Buff: Level 25
  • (15) Gaussian's Synchronized Fire-Control - To Hit Buff/Endurance: Level 25
  • (15) Adjusted Targeting - To Hit Buff: Level 25
  • (17) Adjusted Targeting - To Hit Buff/Endurance: Level 25
  • (17) To Hit Buff IO: Level 50

Set Bonuses:

Gaussian's Synchronized Fire-Control

(Tactics)

  •   7.5% SpeedJumping, 7.5% JumpHeight, 7.5% SpeedFlying, 7.5% SpeedRunning

Adjusted Targeting

(Tactics)

  •   2% DamageBuff(All)

  • 3 weeks later

I ran a triple E blaster to 50 back in the day.

It was a cakewalk compared to triple fire.

*Good AOE

* Good Holds

* Light control via endurance drain

* Solid melee attacks.

The electric mastery set added more AOE, a second ranged hold, and an unstoppable like high resistant panic button. I could tank the hell out of bosses with that build.

I have my Mids for my old Elec^3 that I'd be happy to share.  It's not really optimized for anything specific, which I will freely admit was a shortcoming, I just grabbed stuff that looked best-available for the number of slots any given power had.

I'll try and remember to post it tonight.

EDIT: here it is!  The build below is out of 2012-era Mids, not Pine, in case that becomes a compatibility issue.

Going with trying to make a double electric  tanking blaster on the cheap.  This is my current wish list.

That's Entomb in Tesla Cage; IIRC it was originally a PvP set.

Actually it's a Winter Enhancement set. The Hold PvP set is Gladiator's Net (most of the PvP sets have "Gladiator's" in the name).

As a side note, for the Winter Enhancement sets, like the ATE sets you can use a catalyst to upgrade them to a Superior version with purple stats and set bonuses. However unlike the ATE sets for the Winter sets both the regular and Superior versions are bucketed on the market so the market price of the Superior version is the same as the regular version.

Revised wishlist for Yamnaya.  Is Voltaic Sentinel useful for anything?  It neither distracts mobs nor does a great deal of daage that I can tell. I currently have it but robably will respec out for sooner Recall Friend.

I got my electric/electric blaster to 50 today.

What alpha should I choose?  Musculature seems obvious: if you're on a blaster, damage is part of the program.

I am tempted by Agility: the character is basically a sapper, I built her for just this purpose, it contributes quite a bit to her ordinary survival, and it's just fun to turn mobs helpless out of stealth.  This works just fine when she solos her tips at +0/1.  It underperforms on the +3 and +4 missions everybody likes to run.  Would this make her work better as a debuffer?

On my Elec^3 back in the day I think I ended up going Musculature, as I already had perma hasten (otherwise I would have went Spiritual, as quick recharging powers is always my first priority) and keeping my endurance up was not an issue.  Agility could be interesting though, if you go that route let us know how it turns out.
