Any builds for Pistols/Traps?

Recommended Posts

I only recently picked up this game after a nostalgia-fueled foray into Champions Online, a game I whiled away many childhood hours and dollars in. This is vastly superior in terms of customisation, which I really like, and I've built many of my old characters, as well as some new ones, using powersets that are far closer to what I had in mind originally. My next character is going to be a Dual Pistols/Traps Corrupter, but I can't find any builds for that anywhere and, I'll be entirely honest, I have NO idea what I'm doing build-wise. I chose the powers based on what I envision the character to be like, but I want to build the most effective VERSION of that that I can, and I have no idea how to do that. I barely understand half of the builds I see around here, but I can still copy them at the very least. Does anybody have any suggestions to which powers I should take or links to builds I could envision to give me an idea on where to start?

Frostweaver did a build for it in the DP/Kin thread which may be useful for you.

This is exactly what I needed, thank you so much! Of course, if anybody has any more, I'll still be very grateful as options are good, but this is perfect.

Backport from the AR/Traps build:

Assuming Scaling values you'd still be into soft-caps to Ranged Defense as early as Moonfire TF.

That being said, since I haven't figured out how to arbitrarily place slots in MRBU outside of actually making up the build in game, using /buildsave, and then importing the in-game-possible slotting back into the Designer, there's a metric ton of likely non-optimal level selections for powers.

Here's a version that may or may not load. Previous versions of MIDS had issues with loading "invalid slots"

The power selection levels should be more optimized and this slotting can be achieved in-game using the Respec function.

  • 1 year later

Just slipping this thread a wakie: I'm around L30 on my DP/Traps build now, but having serious problems with END. Without a "sustain power" like the combi stealth/+END from Devices, I've got that runnin' out of blues to use blues... any ideas?

WAKE UP YA MISCREANTS AND... HEY, GET YOUR OWN DAMN SIGNATURE.

Look out for me being generally cool, stylish and funny (delete as applicable) on Excelsior.

Corrupters kind of suck with end management IMO and Traps is a pretty end-heavy set (just about everything in Traps is 13 end base).  Best I can suggest:

  • Focus on EndRedux until you have more slots for building.  A lot of sets seem to leave EndRedux as an afterthought so an SO or basic IO can help for now.
  • If you haven't already, Performance Shifter +End in Stamina, Miracle +Recovery in Health.  Panacea +HP/End in Health is also good if you've got an extra slot.  Incidentally Triage Beacon can accept the Panacea proc and distribute it to anyone in range, but i'm told the proc rate is real bad and probably isn't worth it.
  • Get your Atlas Medallion/Marshal as soon as you can (Marshal is locked behind LRSF unfortunately so you're much better off getting Atlas).  Recovery is based on percentages so more Max End means more end per recovery tick.  Also get Portal Jockey/Born in Battle ASAP for the same reason, but Atlas is usually very doable around 30 while PJ/BiB are saved for the 40s (the main contact for PJ, Maria Jenkins, is a 45 contact).  Set bonuses for +Max End are nice too, and Scourging Blast gives it with 2 slots when you'll likely be frankenslotting that set to double up the recharge bonus from 3.
  • If you have Hasten at this point, it might not hurt to not have it up at all times.  The power won't improve your recovery so you'll burn your ens quicker, and will also eat about 15 end when it runs out.
  • Consider picking up some Recovery Serums from P2W.  They give you a significant recovery boost for 4 minutes with a 10-minute cooldown that can be inproved with recharge bonuses.  You can also get Survival Amplifiers which will increase your recovery a bit, but those are pricy and will get more expensive at higher levels.  Base Empowerment Stations also have a Recovery bonus option that lasts 90 minutes at the cost of some basic salvage.

Currently playing on Indomitable as @Zork Nemesis; was a Protector native on live.

Or take power mastery for conserve power and the awesome power build up.

All the above -and- go with Dark Mastery for Dark Consumption and Soul Drain.  I play a lot of /traps and /storm corrupters and really can’t find much higher value in any other epic other than Dark Mastery.  Especially on Dual Pistols/anything since you’ll be in melee range often to use Soul Drain and it can be permanent with high recharge.  On my Dp/Kin build I’m running +400% damage (cap) almost entire time soloing or teaming.  Jump into melee, Fulcrum + Soul Drain + HOB.  For added fun take Cross Punch from Fighting.  Full damage Cross Punch does crazy damage.

Dark Consumption is a decent AOE damage attack if procc’d and +END.

This is exactly what I needed, thank you so much! Of course, if anybody has any more, I'll still be very grateful as options are good, but this is perfect.

I am not recommending this over that thread (for things that conflict, since I didn't read it). But here's one

You can use caltrops over triage; I just like the free preventative. Adding in the FFG (+15.42%), you're soft capped Melee/Ranged/Aoe and 75% SL with Cardiac.
