I've had a Widow for quite a while, but I'd never played a Soldier before so I took this theme as impetus to try one out. I had not bought the wifi package this cruise. It was an unfamiliar cruise line to me and crazy expensive so decided to do without. On Tuesday, they announced that we were being rerouted to Bahamas instead of Mexico, and then the danger of Helene became a reality. The next day we got the announcement that Helene would not let us sail up the Gulf on Friday as planned and that Port of Tampa could not accommodate our ship until Sunday. Yikes! Lots of scurrying to contact friends and family at home, to make disaster plans and get stuff secured. Very frightening. Most of us just wanted to be home at that point, but all we could do was make the best of it! Lots more fun was had by all, but mostly with lots more underlying worry and concern. Sunday at Tampa Port was ridiculous. They did not have the means to accommodate 4 ships "lost at sea" just waiting to come home. It took us hours longer than usual to disembark. I finally made it home by early evening, and it's taken me all these days to catch up on household things to finally feel settled enough to come back in game. Very grateful to live on high enough ground to avoid any of the flooding, but neighborhoods and businesses and beaches all around me are just destroyed. The surge of this storm was catastrophic, as I'm sure many of you have seen on reports. So just wanted to check in on a Thursday night and say I'm ba-a-a-ck! Really excited for Halloween event and collecting badges on new characters made this past year. The Sara Moore TF begins on the Cascade Archipelago side of the Mole Point. (Back in the day the Mole Point was a really useful transport unlock in the Shadow Shard.) In the 32 years I've lived in the Clearwater area, this is the first time any storm of this size was almost surely going to hit the Tampa Bay area. After days of talking with my family to carefully weigh all the choices, we decided to just head more inland about 100 miles to Orlando. Stayed away for 3 days and just made it back yesterday. It was quite the apocalyptic scene getting home. Skirting the trees in the roads and having to treat non-functional traffic lights as 4-way stop signs made a normally 2-hour trip more like a 4-hour trip. Fortunately zero damage to any of our properties. My sister's house is without electricity, as is my daughter's. I do have power so everyone keeps coming here to charge their devices or get ice, water, etc. LOL. I'm so happy to be the provider for everyone. However I don't have internet and may not for a while. Yes, it battered us for hours and hours. Very scary and widespread damage. It made landfall about 60 miles south of where I live as a category 3. I had evacuated about 100 miles inland and got pounded there too but it had weakened to a category 1 by that time. I was in a very secure large hotel structure so I felt safe. Today I was safe back at home with electricity, but no internet. I connected via mobile hotspot which worked fairly well, only some intermittent rubberbanding issues. It's been a stressful and sometimes traumatic couple of weeks with these back-to-back hurricanes, but having little slices of joy to look forward to has really been calming to my brain.
