Wait, even though I can’t slot defense in it, I can slot Membranes and they’ll buff the DDR? Works in Mids, and you confirmed works in game. Wow! OK! Thanks!

I just double-checked this... it does NOT appear to work in HC despite the DDR in AD not being listed as unenhanceable.   That's what I get for not double-checking Mids/I19 memories before posting.  That's 2 Membranes to be yanked and repurposed.  My DDR is running about 9% lower than I thought.  On the plus side, it will be perma-double stacked with IOs giving about 88% DDR.

Welcome to the game!

Here's a sample build with which you'll have capped defense to Melee, Ranged, and AoE at level 27. That's how long it takes to get six slots in the 4 punches for set bonuses and one of the sets (Mako's Bite) can't be used until you're level 27. But after this everything you add is just more butter on the cake! ( I put full set names in the build to avoid abbreviation confusion)

Shadow Maul is your AoE punch, available at level 4. It punches literally everyone in front of you.

Against All Odds buffs your damage when you're surrounded by enemies.

Soul Drain gives you a 30-second damage buff.

And you have a bunch of open power slots you can choose for utility/whatever.

If you planning to try out Mids, one important thing you should know, it's not 100% accurate. Also, make sure you download Mids from this website or discord[?], not some shady website.

The answer is Radiation Armor. I cannot explain enough. It's amazing! I love it, in fact, I have five different radiation armor toons. Unfortunately, Rad shines with procs and IOs, since you're a new player, I'll vote SR or Shield--plain and simple.

If you want something that is pretty rock solid at low levels try a SR/MA tank. Mine had pretty much softcapped def to all positions by around level 10 (with a little help from storm kick) if memory serves. Fairly sure it had softcapped melee def (again with use of storm kick) at something nuts like level 4!

I'm new to the game, and I've made a few tanks that I got up to level 10 to 12.  I need a little help with some ideas.  I'm looking for something that can be very sturdy end game.  I like to tank in a variety of games.  I will be coming in with no influence, etc. so Ideally it would be nice to have something tough out of the box.  Then I can slowly tweak the character out as I get more influence.   I'm assuming I can do that just by continuing to tank or maybe farm.  I've played games like WoW, so I'm not too sure how it goes.

So here is the conundrum.  I've backed by missions down to -1 for level, and depending on the character I either kept it as +1 for number of heroes or +2.  Nothing I've made seems all that tanky at low levels.  I also feel like I'm not doing that much damage.  I pop inspirations and get through it, but it feels underwhelming.  So being new and leveling with no influence, I'm also looking for something that can solo well enough to level up.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks! 🙂

Hi there, first up welcome to the wonderful world of Tanking in CoX! Next, as others have mentioned at the lower levels, you really won't be much of a Tank. The big shift comes at level 22 when you can start adding Single Origin Enhancements, or SOs (or depending on your think start slotting level 25 IOs. I personally tend to wait until level 30 or 35 depending on the power). The next biggest boost will be around level 32 when you've pretty much got all your Primary Powers in place and a number of attacks. Around level 40 is when the real magic happens as you've been able to slot up most of your main powers, add some IO sets, and maybe started your Epic Powers. So, on Tanks, it's a bit more of a ride until you get to the good stuff, but once there, you're on your way. Incarnate powers only add the fun that is Tanking in CoX. Also some 2ndry powers make leveling a little faster and more bearable, but again, this is a matter of personal taste, so ymmv.

I'm not sure what to say about your missions. I think I've always been able to run Tanks at the basic level, admittedly they are a bit slower than other ATs, but they do start showing their survivability as soon as level 12 (when you can place DOs (Dual Enhancements)). A large team will definitely help while leveling up and waiting for your powers to mature, but by level 22 you should be able to solo fairly well. Also, try increasing the number of mobs, instead of level of them.

Try to make it to a Tanker Tuesday! There's tons of Tank enthusiasts there and we're happy to help out. We run all game content as all Tanker teams and it's a good place to see how the different powers work together as well as different play styles.

How much of a bonus do you get with tank res numbers over brute numbers? I see that I get et and tf from energy melee at 35 and 38, which is basically 100% late game build. 😐

I have no real need of the capstone or powersink from elec armor.

Both Tankers and Brutes share the same damage cap : 90%.

But tankers reach Def and Res cap with a lot more ease than brutes on many armors set, leaving lot of place for others options.

Tankers also have the highest hit points cap of the game : a full slotted invul tanker can reach a permanent 3700+ hp with no major issues.

This was the question. How much is the bonus.

Tanker's Tough is 15% base and 23,77% at 58,48 % bonus caped

Brute's Tough is 11,25% base and 17.83% with the same IO.

Dang, thats a whole lot of res to make up for with slotting to get the same mileage. 😞 Thank you!
