I ran DP/Nin to 50 on a weekly leveling team and wasn't impressed. Not bad per se, just "meh". Really didn't like the lack of Aim or Build Up, which makes Hail of Bullets kinda lackluster. Didn't bother pursuing incarnates and currently mothballed.

Mmmkay, 3 melee attacks for a blaster softcapped to ranged, 32 seconds downtime in Hasten, dmg has been covered by someone else and, piercing rounds? why?

Going for a ranged softcapped char, I much prefer this one, no wasted attacks in melee, higher s/l res, decent energy res (most common dmg at high lvls), much better recharge and procs in aoe attacks. 3 seconds downtime in Hasten and ranged def can be higher by just reshuffling some enhancements but I don't feel it's required. This would be full ranged DP/Nin with a couple tricks for when in melee

More of a proof of concept (and following limitations I put on myself regarding not using purples, superior, or Winter IOs) but does manage to hit S/L/E and barely miss Ranged Defense cap (see edit). So you could obviously increase global recharge and possibly pick up some additional slots to spend with alternative slotting. Adrenal Booster's long recharge means Gaussian should proc every time you use it but that will only be every 3.5 minutes roughly. And the build keeps the single target melee attacks.

 

Of course there are tradeoffs. For example S/L resistances....

Edit: Noticed had Hail of Bullet's defense boost turned on. Fixed that and adjusted slotting to bring Ranged defense back up to 1.42% short of cap.

Love this build.

Hail of bullets and it's almost capped to melee def as well as ranged so can scrap for a short period.

Some resists and heal/Regen and because of the knockdown on 2 powers it is very survivable and makes it very scrappy.

Amazingly fluid sets offering a lot of fun.

Still, for the effort/cost of the IOs, I might have expected a bigger overall difference:

Though I gotta say the extra Regen, To-Hit, and Recharge are all very nice and quite possibly well worth the added effort/cost.

I throw in my try at this, for whatever it is worth. Not a pro, but I absolutely fell in love with that toon and its probably going to be my next 50.

I actually play here as a relentless Blapper, assaulting into mobs with the Spring Attack and then hitting AoEs like there's no tomorrow. And then see what's left standing...

 

So, softcapped Ranged and Melee Def was the primary goal, then take it from there...

 

Am a little bit concerned about the level of endu consumption, but hey... where's the fun without the challenge.

I wanted to revive this old thread as I love this combo. It seems to get a lot of hate as it is not a meta combo. I find it very satisfying and Golden Dragonfly is one of my favorite animations. 

 

The build is team based but a small purple, if needed, will cap my S/L and Ranged. I've invested heavily in recharge and +damage. If y'all have any way to keep the damage but sneak in soft capped S/L/Ranged or Melee/Ranged I'd love to see it. I think I may find it by removing the teleport pool for something else. I was just trying to step away from the always Speed, Flighting, CJing, Leadership Pool combo.

I liked this combo, too, updated from what was originally posted. I was easily able to solo pretty much anything, which is always my goal. I did make DP/Martial since, though, and it fits my playstyle a lot more. Both are great!

I have a DP/MC and a DP/Nin (as well as a DP/Rad a DP/EA Sent, a Time DP DEF) but focusing, MC and Nin both play well to the close up fast nature of DP.  Overall MC is far more stylistic and some great mitigation tools, but DP feels like its more damaging with the blade attacks.  Tricked out with Set IOs I have loads of fun with them both but again, MC comes out slightly ahead.
