Escort mechanics question

I'm writing a mission arc where you start out in low esteem with your contact and they ask you to shadow an NPC hero they trust.   Mission-wise, I was hoping to require the player to escort this hero to a terminal, and once done, it completes the requirement, as the hero does the downloading and retrieves the clue.  I cannot make this work however, as in testing I still have to click the terminal myself in order to complete it.  If I make the terminal an inessential task, it gives me an error.  Is there a way to accomplish what I want?  I know there are in-game missions that have this mechanic.

Yes the player is able to gain the trust of the contact through the story 🙂

As far as I know, the only AE mission ending escort target is the entrance. With anything else, you have to click it yourself. Not sure why this is so, but it is.

Right now this annoyance remains an annoyance. I've listed it on the Discord as something for the Devs to poke at in the future.

Correct, you can escort an NPC to a clickable object by setting the "Destination" to the object.  However, yes, YOU (the player) still has to click the object after the escort.

So perhaps story-wise, you can have the NPC "instruct" the player how to download the info -- this is kind of stronger choice for your story anyway, as it helps the NPC start to "trust" and gain some "rep" for the player by having you do it instead of them.  Maybe the NPC can be like..."Let's see how well you can follow instructions on how to enter this complicated sequence to download this info.  Good!  You're not useless after all."  😄

This kind of objective is especially irritating, because people can (and will) breeze past the escort, compulsively click the glowie, and then find themselves with no idea how to complete the mission. That said, I use this gimmick all the time. You just have to accept that it, like everything else about the AE that isn't applicable to fire farms, is fundamentally broken and you have to stretch a little to make it work.

Yeah, usually you just have to shoehorn in a solution with creative writing...

Make the terminal dual control, or hacked to be unlockable by you even though the escort does the downloading, or some other conceit to the mechanics.

Well that's a bummer, guess I'll have to work it into the story.   Thanks for the responses though!
