Helicopter crash in ‘Boomtown’, a radioactive survivor?

By BC Sawyer

Late last week a helicopter crashed in the ruins of the Baumton district, 8 men were killed in the accident, and there were reportedly no survivors. The helicopter was registered to Parallax Security. C.J. Conan, the spokesman for Parallax Security had this to say on the matter:

“At 21:37 our team was en route a training exercise in the Baumton district, when something caused their helicopter to collide with the remains of a skyscraper. The helicopter was carrying a 6 man team and their equipment, as well as the pilot and copilot.
We are still investigating the cause of the crash. Currently it appears that it may have been the result of some form of ground-based assault.

Our crews are working closely with the Paragon Police and Fire departments to clean up the crash site and ensure none of their equipment can end up in the hands of the gangs which inhabit the ruins of Baumton.”

He gave no comment as to the nature of the equipment the men were carrying, nor as to the sort of training exercise being undertaken.

An anonymous source has reported, though, that the cleanup crew was using radiation equipment and geiger counters, and hauling away boxes labeled “radioactive”. This has been confirmed with an independent investigation of the site, though PPD and PFD officials both deny the claims.

Our source also told us that the crew seemed to be looking for something that wasn’t there. A further investigation of the site turned up a short trail leading away from the wreckage, fresh charring, melted metal, large debris moved for the first time in years.

During the course of our investigation, we were approached by a man who only identified himself as Frost, he asked if we were also looking for the ‘thing’, and had this to say:

“The night of the crash, a bunch of us headed towards it. Basically everyone in Boomtown did, ya know? Salvage rights man, whoever gets there first gets the best shit. Well, my crew, we were the first on the scene, or so we thought. We start working on putting out the fire and suddenly there’s this bright green explosion inside the thing and this thing stomps out of the fire.

First we thought it was a troll, ‘cause it was so green and big and strong. Kinda glowed like the Supa Trolls, thing casually backhands one of our guys away, onna the Bricks man, and it flung him like a ragdoll!

We scatter of course, we figure whoever this thing is with, they got here before us and fighting that thing wasn’t worth it.

Trolls were right behind us though, right? Well, Trolls aren’t so smart and never back down from a fight, they charge this thing. That just pissed it off, things got real hot then, several of the Trolls dropped before they even hit it, the rest it swept aside like a bunch of toys.

Then it let out a shrieking cry. I may be imagining things, but this didn’t sound like a cry of victory or a threat, man… the thing sounded scared, and definitely not human.”

Frost also informed us that the following day a group he had never seen before was searching Baumton and questioning everyone they found if they had seen anything unusual, and were following the trail of the creature towards the nearby Council base.

While we visited the Council base, they were obviously recovering from a recent assault of some kind. The reception we received was not precisely warm, and we were forced to leave rather quickly and suddenly, but not before obtaining an image of the creature from their security cameras, and discovering that it was last seen headed towards the sewer access.

There has been an RP with our villains (Entropy Legion) and heroes (Union Supreme) where the villains took overs a small (fictional) Central America country, Costa Verde.  The villains supported rebels and the fighting blew into a Coup d’etat. Things were going well for the villains until...the DM rolled a 1.

The Union Supreme, authorized by the UN Security Council, moved in and freed President Elmirez from the Rebels and Ramiro "El Lobo" Xuc.  Now the country can focus on the recover efforts from the object that crashed from orbit that devastated Costa Verde.

So I had created a newspaper template long ago when CoH/V was Live.  It is formatted in Mac program called Keynote, which is the Mac version of PowerPoint.  PowerPoint should have no issues opening it up either, though it will probably adjust some things a little.  Those adjustments should be minor.  Anyways, I'm never one to horde things, so you can download my template here: https://s3.amazonaws.com/file3.guildlaunch.net/578441/Newspaper templates.key

Here is what you'll find in the template:

  1. Paragon Times, no explanation needed
  2. Paragon Post, this is my creation that I use (like the New York Post in RL) to make more sensational headlines and not so much journalistic integrity.  Page 8 is the gossip section (paralleling the NY Post's famous Page 6)
  3. Rogue Isle Protector, no explanation needed, you read it for your bank jobs
  4. SuperHype, the gossip and meta-celebrity news rag
  5. TPN Today, all the news Emperor Cole wants you to know!
  6. Generic Blog/Online News article
  7. Paragon Sporting News, because sports are big everywhere
  8. Olden Times, when I wanted to create something from the past that can be "researched" and discovered by my Heroes/Villains
  9. Daily Planet, because it is the greatest news publication in any fictional universe, duh.  And that Clark Kent has to be the fastest typist I've ever seen.
  10. Daily Bugle, another sensational style newspaper.  Gotta love the Editorial section.  What can he rant about today?
  11. Gotham Gazette, because how much more depressing can a city's Metro section get?

Have fun making headline news!

((ok, not exactly a newspaper, but this is probably an ad in your favorite newsprint too.  Posters are appearing all over Paragon City and Mercy.))

((this is part of the Entropy Legion's current story line which is called "Deadly High Fashion."  Since it is Fashion Week in NYC, I decided to do this theme story for them))

((this was the aftermath of RP that took place on the night of 9/10/19.  The short of the story is that an Mastermind (the James Bond type, not the AT) has created and released, in small quantities, nano-bot moths that attack and consume clothing.  So if you wish, you can find your villain/hero suddenly naked as they fall victim to a passing cloud of these nano-moths.  The story is not done but the Mastermind is planning to release all his nano-moths upon Paragon City Fashion Week runway show in Atlas Park, where all of Paragon City, and eventually the world, will find themselves naked!  For full details on the story visit here: https://entropylegion.guildlaunch.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=12036495&gid=578441 ))

((continuing story of the Union Supreme, which is continuing the Costa Verde saga started by the villains, the Entropy Legion.  Also, the International Red Circle is my CoH universe version of the International Red Cross/Crescent.  Always best to avoid using real life organizations!  For more details on this and other stories, visit the Legion and Union's websites in the section below.))

Exhibits missing in Murder-Museum heist

dmz855k.png
[Police request anyone with information about the robbery to please come forward]

The Indianapolis museum of homicide was struck by a surprise heist last night, with several installations vandalised or stolen.

While surveillance footage was interrupted during the break-in, an unmarked vehicle was caught on traffic cameras, and local police are looking to question a mercenary organisation known to operate in the area, whose M.O matches the vehicle and method of gaining entry.

Notably, the perpetrators absconded with a display of bullets and shrapnel collected from the site of the Rosewood massacre, the only exhibit taken with no discernable monetary value.

The massacre which took place in the winter of 1933, when the serial killer, Karl Lehrer, frustrated at being trapped in the town of Rosewood during a four day blizzard, turned on the sleepy town's inhabitants, slaughtering all men, women and children trapped in their homes in a bloody 8 hour rampage.

Other artifacts taken included a gold plated machete, used by renowned drug dealer Treyvon "Cutter" Hughes in his bid to corner the New York superadine market; a selection of ceremonial jewellery worn by the infamous Wisconsin Rapture Family cult; the Dietrich diamond, which Lucinda Dietrich murdered her husband to obtain in order to pay off her gambling debts, which was on loan from the Museu…..

Star Paragon: Dead or Alive?

One year ago today, the famous hero known as Star Paragon was reported dead, his body having been discovered near the unconscious forms of no fewer than twenty Hellions who were immediately taken into custody. The criminals in question reported the presence of an unidentified teenager being defended by the hero until his last breath, but the boy in question was nowhere to be found when police arrived on the scene. Recently, however, sightings of an individual of similar appearance to Star Paragon have begun to cast doubt on the death of the hero; close acquaintances of Star Paragon have mostly refused to comment, though some have suggested the possibility of a copycat or impostor. The individual in question--whether Paragon himself or a new hero inspired by him--has been careful not to be seen closely, but has otherwise displayed nothing but heroic behavior. Whatever the case, some remain hopeful that the hero they once knew has returned to continue his fight against evil; time will tell if their hope is rewarded.

'Revived' Star Paragon Revealed To Be Homeless Teen

Hopes that the famous hero known as Star Paragon, declared dead one year ago, was still alive were dashed recently when the identity of the mysterious hero resembling Star Paragon was released by City Hall yesterday. Lucas Harper, a 16-year-old homeless teenager, officially registered as a hero today. According to the boy, the original Star Paragon sacrificed himself to save Harper, in the process granting the teen his powers. Questions remain as to the specific details of this transfer, as well as the circumstances of his registration considering a distinct lack of legal identity, but officials insist that everything is being taken care of. As for Harper himself, he refused an on-camera interview but stated his intention to attend Paragon Junior Supers Academy in order to learn more about his abilities.

CIRCLE PLOT FOILED, VAULT FULL OF POWERFUL ARTIFACTS RECLAIMED

MAGI reported yesterday that they had successfully finished cataloging a massive collection of magical artifacts seized in an impromptu raid conducted by two students of the Paragon Junior Supers Academy on a Circle of Thorns operation. The collection, containing over 500 artifacts, had been stored in a vault that had once belonged to Aufidius, a regular opponent of the legendary hero Stalwart Citadel. Aufidius, notorious for stealing and collecting powerful magical artifacts, died almost 40 years ago, but the location of his collection had remained a mystery until today. Among the artifacts recovered was the infamous Horn of Valketh, which is allegedly capable of inciting violent rages in those unfortunate enough to hear its call when blown. As for the students responsible for uncovering this trove--one of whom recently made headlines as the successor to the famous hero Star Paragon--official response has been a mix of praise and chiding.

"I'm of two minds here," spoke Mag. Sgt. Richard Acklen of MAGI. "I knew Stalwart Citadel personally, and I worked with Star Paragon, too. On the one hand, they'd both call these kids idiots for running in without backup, and I'd agree with them. On the other hand, the Circle could've done a lot of damage if they hadn't been stopped, and containing the fallout would've been extremely difficult, and for that I think both would agree these kids did good."

No word has been given from MAGI or the PJSA on how the Circle plot was uncovered or how the PJSA students knew of the vault.
