Plant/? for a mostly solo player

Superbitsandbob

Recommended Posts

Hey friends,

Massive n00b so forgive any silly questions.

I am wanting to play a Plant Controller for the theme and RP but I can mostly only solo for various reasons.

What would be a good secondary to go with it? I'm looking to do as much of the content as I can solo including bosses and whatever.

Thanks in advance!

Pretty much any secondary will work.   Narrowing it down becomes more important if you want to solo AVs and mobs at +4/×8, but if you're looking to solo at base difficulties and role play is the most important element then ultimately all secondaries can do it.  Especially when or if you're talking post Incarnate it becomes more a matter of builds than which secondary.  That said you really only have one pet to buff so I'd lean towards a debuff set or Storm.

Thanks for the help. Aye I would like to try push the boundaries solo if possible. I like the look of poison or rad for the theme but not sure if they would help towards my goals.

Plant/Storm is very fun. While you do get Seeds early the build doesn't really tend to come together until later in the 30s when you can add Tornado and LS to the fun.

Plant/Dark is a really smooth leveling progression with fun power picks nearly every level. This was the 1st toon I solo'ed an ITF with so you can do pretty much all content with one if you like.

Be really curious to see your plant/dark build if you care to share. 🙂

No real experience with Poison but it certainly should be very solid.  Same with Rad, Cold and Dark.  Storm is more about raw damage but brings Hurricane's to hit debuff and Freezing Rain to the damage Tornado and Lightning Storm provide.  Storm itself is a late bloomer ... but Plant gets Seeds of Confusion which can more than carry you till Storm comes into itself.

Plant/Storm is a classic for a reason. Traps lends itself to soloing but takes a decent amount of +recharge to really get going. But Seeds + Creepers + Boomy traps things is always going to be effective.

Plant/Trick Arrow should also be pretty darn effective. Although in its case maybe all that -ToHit might be a hinderance (you don't want the enemy missing each other once you've confused them). At least with Plant/Dark you can switch off Darkest Night.

I agree with Carnifax, Plant/Storm or Plant/TA are both really good solo, and Plant is good solo from level 9ish after you get seeds.  It gets a big boost at 26 with creepers.   I would recommend Ice as an epic, you will start off with a cone Seeds, so doing roots, then frost breath after that will sliver most of the minions pretty much immediately.   Honestly, Plant/anything is strong.  I have a Plant/Nature that I think of as easy mode, and a Plant/Time that is also really resilient.  All of these can solo pretty easily because of Seeds+Creepers plus whatever attacks you add later.   Honestly Plant/Storm/Ice is my favorite character ever, in any game, ever.

Did plant/dark/psi to 50 and it was an easy ride and amazingly tanky.  Trying plant/cold/ice (bit more offensive a combo) now and so far also fantastic.  Looking forward to roots + creepers + sleet + ice storm to melt things.  And you have benumb to take out AV/GM's.

As others have said, plant/anything should work well.  Plant almost doesn't even need a secondary to be good.

To be honest, pylon times aren't really even Plant's strength since Seeds is a non-issue. I solo on my Plant/ta as needed. The two holds mean bosses are held quickly even with basic slotting.
