One reason I avoid archetypes that have Assault is that they don't have any conventional weapons (or conventional-adjacent, such as Beam Rifle).

 

That's why I think Commando Assault might be well received.

 

This would entail

  • Knives,
  • Guns,
  • Grenades
  • etc.  (add your ideas below, if you like)

 

All of these could be recycled from existing powers' animations.

 

What do you think?

I don't know if it's good enough to go there. I wanted to round it out a bit more and get some opinions/help with it first.

I just look at that and am paralyzed with OCD fear.  Redraw?  Disappearing weapons?  

 

AR is finally in a decent place. AR Devices (where do the nades come from?) is a good option for a modern assault set.  Very strong if you build for ranged defense and learn to leverage the first strike DPS build up bonus.

Hell yeah, @Herotu. I've been wanting something like this for a while. At one point, I thought about making use of temps, just to drag out the various weapons. And since it's summer, this could be a project for me.:-)

My AR Devices has ALL the temps.  But trust me, the AR does 95% of the work unless you are exemping to a Posi 1 and have a stupid (regular?) team on the city hall assault.  Then you need to be dropping temp nade city around you

Something like the Gun Fu and Military Assault sets they have over on Rebirth would certainly be a welcome addition here, yes. Gun in hands, shoot people at range or kick them in the head when they come closer.

 

Also it's very debatably contemporary but an assault set with a bow and maybe martial arts powers would be cool too.

 

From a technical standpoint the issue is mostly mixing animations that expect a weapon in your hand with ones that don't. Can result in weapons clipping through the character, or spontaneously appearing and disappearing depending on which powers you use. It's not an insurmountable challenge as proven by the existence of those two sets on Rebirth but it's undoubtedy a bit of work to get running smoothly.

I wanted to necro this to thank the anonymous devs who worked on making this happen, and probably started work on it long before I suggested it! The cheeky scamps probably saw my post and snickered behind their hands.
