I put this is the bug forum but a GM suggested I put it here too. Here is the bug report I posted:

On my Ice Armor Sentinel, his "Frost Protection" power is an auto Power (always on) but it's accepting recharge Enhancements like it's a Clickable or Toggle power.

A GM advised that I report it here as well as in the bug forum so, I am. Thanks!

If you're trying to slot a set, and that set's pieces include recharge/something, it'll let you slot it because of the /something that it *can* take (rech/end, rech/acc, rech/def.)

The other half (or 2/3 or 3/4) of that IO is valid, so it takes it.

That said, hopping to test to take a look.

Edit:

Nope, description itself says "Allowed enhancements:  Enhanced Recharge Speed, Enhanced Heal," and it does take a plain old recharge SO.

This should probably be in "bug reports" though 🙂 Messaged to request a move over there.

Yeah, according to City of Data, it does take recharge enhancements, which should be both the SOs and the common IOs. Seems like a holdover from when they changed it from Hoarfrost to Frost Protection when making sentinels.

Ice armor sents still have hoarfrost, though.

Per the author, a GM requested this thread be posted in both the Bugs and Suggestions and Feedback sections. And OP states is posted in both locations.

Oh yeah, you're right. Guess it was the replacement for Chilling Embrace, then? Shows how much I do anything with sentinels. No idea then why it would allow recharge enhancements.

Most toggles take a second or 2 to "recharge" after you drop them, so they take recharge enhancements to shorten that downtime (Chilling Embrace has a 10s recharge, IIRC).  Normally, this wouldn't matter, but offensive toggles (like Chilling Embrace) drop when you get mezzed, so a recharge might be useful there.

I don't recall if offensive toggles just suppress now, but I do recall that *all* toggles used to drop when you got mezzed (which frustrated me to no end - I've run 9 toggles on my blaster for years!) (And is probably why I hate Stun so much...)

The power is Frost Protection, which is an auto power that accepts recharge enhancements. @Burk was musing about Frost Protection being the Sentinel's replacement power for Chilling Embrace, which Sentinels lack.

Which is incredibly disappointing. I would gladly take that trade back.

I have no opinion on the matter other than my usual players are using existing powers bit. However, it does make sense to me. Chilling Embrace is an offensive aura toggle, which doesn't make much sense on a dedicated range AT, whereas Frost Protection is useful at all ranges. That's my guess on why it is the way it is at least.

When you say "recharge enhancements" do you mean recharge SOs or generic recharge IOs?

It accepts all recharge Enhancements. DO, SO & IO. I tested it with a DO which it accepted so I assume it will accept all types of recharge enhancements. It even lists "Recharge" in the "Allowed Enhancements" section of the power. According to the GM who replied to my in-game report, they checked other auto powers on toons of theirs and some (or all) of those auto powers also accepted recharge.

Yeah, I know about other IO sets that happen to have recharge in them working on powers that don't recharge. This Auto power, in the "Allowed Enhancements" section even says "Recharge". So, it's a bug.

It might be because the buffs from the auto powers are listed as having a duration for their effect. So despite being always on when selected as a power, they may have had recharge left available to them by the dev because they forgot they are auto powers and more looked at being able to use the power again as soon as possible? I don't actually know, just making a WAG.
