Help me keep my Robots chilled (Bots/Cold review please)

Hello. Long-time Bots/FF player here, trying to venture out and try /Cold with Robots. I could use some help reviewing the build, and offering any advice.

 

The paring is rather thematic, since a lot of high tech equipment is kept cold, so hence, the cryonic villain, Cold Steel. (I feel like this pairing also honors my two old main characters back in Live, Chill-Out, my Ice/Ice tanker, and Mechanista, my Bots/FF MM...kind of like combining the two into one...at least it feels that way to me!)

 

I really miss the Dispersion Bubble the most, but I do like the +stealth from Arctic Fog. Helps keep the bots (noisy as they are) from alerting enemies while we assemble. Most of them tend to keep within it, with a few Goto prompts.  With Fly +stealth on, I can sneak to mission objectives and summon the bots in peace. I wish I could fit recall friend in there to help with speed TFs, but I do find Group Flight helpful in certain maps, like Oranbega.

 

I put in a few procs for sleet (in the build, I don't have it yet in-game) and used Frozen Armor to slot a few uniques for personal defense. Overall personal Defense is lower than my /FF, but the resists are better. However, the slows, and other debuffs actually add to personal and teammate protection, so that's not as readily apparent.  I do feel I add more to a team that just +Defense/Toxic/EndDrainProt, although I've had times when I wished I could add +Status Protection. That will have to wait until Clarion.

 

I did take hasten and put in some LotG for 30% global recharge, but I'm not aiming to take down AVs by myself here, just good solid solo and group work. If I have a few seconds of downtime here or there that doesn't bother me.  Benumb and Sleet are up often enough to please me.

 

What this build does offer me that I enjoy compared to FF is more control. It is far easier to keep things clumped up for the bots. In my old Live Bots/FF build I had Mace and I could glue them down but prior to Mace I had to chase down runners. Not so much this go around. 

 

Anyway, that's been my experience, and my reasons for slotting. If anyone would care to review the build below and offer critiques and suggestions, I'd very much appreciate them. Trying to get out of my comfort zone. Maybe one day I'll even try Beasts (ha ha ha....well...that might be a cold day in...well...huh...cold.../cold? )

I can't view all the set bonuses at the moment but I do have a few questions/suggestions.

 

1. I know you said you weren't building to solo AVs but how much are you willing to spend?

 

2. I could see adding Reactive Defenses to maneuvers if you aren't S/L capped.

I'm willing to spend a lot, as this is my main. Don't have it all over time, but so far I have most of the Pet Ios, KB prot IO, Stealth IO and Reactive Defense IO. Working on the others. Later I 'll work on sets. Appreciate the lookover.

i try to build my bots to not rely on the shield from protectors.

 

get rid of the hammi-o's and slot the ato's. You have no end reduction in your pets and are playing a secondary that does not provide end t your pets and did not state if you are taking ageless or not. Your pets will run dry quickly and you are missing out on 30% recharge

 

get rid of the defense io's in bots. you don't need them as cold, ff, traps or time if using the unique io's.

 

proper efficient slotting for your pets is

 

4 of each mm ato set in assault bot and protector bots. which you do which with is up to you.

 

the last two of each set in the tier 1 bots.

 

from here fill out the other 4 unique io's, and kb to kd, damage procs, build up in the tier 1's

 

something like this has you softcapped in pve without bot shield, 3 points shy of incarnate cap with bot shield, an aoe immob and your pets doing a LOT more damage while having end recovery and with ageless - perma hasten.

If you recommend an immobilize Dixa, which would you lean torward?

Never played cold but it looks busy and mm have end issues in general.

 

Note that Heat Loss can mitigate end problems, both for you AND your pets. I run Tough, Maneuvers, Fog and Weave on Ninja/Cold. If I land a good Heat Loss, end is no longer an issue. That with throwing all my cold stuff in addtion to spamming Smoke Flash. 

 

With only hasten and without incarnate or set stuff, there is only short gap between the expiration of the Heat Loss buff and the ability to recast it. Io's can tighten that up and going Agility in your alpha spot would really do it. As mine is an alt, I haven't settled on a final build but I am leaning towards agility on mine just to really pour out the cold stuff, like Sleet.

This is meant to be just notes on the latest build, not a thorough review.

 

Instead of slotting small + def bonuses in Arctic Fog, slot some actual defense, you'd get about 2% def to all instead of 1.25% def to s/l/e/n.  I went with 4 Shield Walls (including +res IO) since you've maxed out LOTGs.

 

Hasten is perma with 2 slots.  You can move one to whatever, another proc.

 

I don't have a "main" but I love, LOVE my Bots/Cold.  There are no end issues whatsoever especially once you get to perma HL.

Just for reference, here's my bots/cold.  It was my very first toon in the new world.  I haven't given any thought on improvements though I'm sure there are opportunities.  I'm not terribly motivated to revisit the build because, as is, there's nothing it can't do.  Nothing (note - not a PVPer).

 

And yes, Clarion is the right call.

If you are on Indomitable you have the name I was going to take for the same pairing.  Since I pretty much only play redside, I had to go with Cold Steal. 

 

As far as the pairing, it is good...but so...so.....boring.  I actually play on +1/3-4, and on basic missions I attack a spawn and then open up my Kindle to read for the few minutes to clear the spawn.  I gave up at 30, and I am sure if I ever make it to 32 it will go a bit quicker.....but this is the reason I never played Bots/FF...not enough for me to contribute during the fight.  On live I played Bots/TA and I remember it fondly, although it was nowhere near as safe or powerful.

My backup name was Cold Hard Steel. Perhaps it might work for you?

 

I like Bots/Cold. Has a few more goodies to keep me busier than FF did.

 

Not sure I could ever play Bots/TA....but it sounds like it would be very interesting.

Not trying to hijack this thread, but would the same choices of powers/slotting and IO sets here work for thugs/cold? I have mine at 50 and needs to be respec into a build to build towards. I have no real issues on the thugs choice side, but /cold has me confused. Thank you

for the most part yes. Obviously you'd have gang war to  slot the special pet aura IOsin. But overall thugs are a defense based set like robots. I think the build woodport over very nicely
