Superman is nothing to me.

There should be a Starro movie and no, not that chump starfish from Suicide Squad.    I think i only counted 4 arms on him anyway.

Pineapple 🍍 Pizza 🍕 is my thumbs up.

Well, by the looks of the final trailer, they're clearly not catering to the Asteroidia-echinoderm metric.

Bit of an omission if you ask me. Maybe in the sequel?

Not sure I can put my finger on it, but something still seems off to me with the latest trailer.  I don't mind injecting some humor into Superman, especially coming off the brooding Snyderverse version.  I'm just hoping that pendulum doesn't swing too far in the opposite direction towards the campy end.  One thing I'm excited to see is Milly Alcock as Supergirl.  She was excellent on HoTD and perfect casting as Supergirl IMO.  Very much looking forward to what she does with the role.

First batch of reviews is out.

Metacritic: 71 with 35 reviews

RT: 87 with 93 reviews

I just happened to like this one:

A movie that doesn’t sacrifice its titular character in service to franchise-building. Instead, it focuses on celebrating the values that Superman himself has embodied from the beginning. (Liz Miller, Consequence)

Good. A franchise should become a franchise, or stay a franchise, only because each movie is in and of itself a good movie.

I have seen Pearl three times and did not realize that's where I knew Corenswet from. He was great in that part, can easily see him pulling off dialogue like, "what the hey, dude".

Just saw it and loved it. Felt like watching a comic book come to life. Great cast, great acting, great story and I'll definitely go see it again. It felt like a Superman movie should and Lord knows, we can really use that these days. Also, Krypto rules.

Without spoilers, how was Nicholas Hoult's performance as Lex Luthor?   I like Hoult alot in what few other works of his I've seen, but I admit to a little concern when I heard he was cast as LL.  The trailers didn't alter that concern.  He's a great actor, I just have trouble imagining him covering the role successfully.

The highest praise I've heard of this film thus far, was from a BattleTech gaming buddy of mine.  His kid asked him to go see it.  He'd seen the trailer, and thought the dog wearing a cape looked stupid and had very low expectations.  He told me, after he got back, "I was wrong.  I was SO WRONG.  This movie is everything a comic book movie should be."

He's really picky about that kind of stuff, so now I'm sort of stoked to see it (will still have to wait until it comes out on streaming, though).

Saw it earlier today and I enjoyed it.  The main cast is great - David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan and Nicholas Hoult are all great casting.  I liked the story and its a much lighter, much better depiction than the darker and more brooding Snyderverse movies.   The story is a bit janky in a couple of places ... seemed to me that they came up with action pieces and then tried filling in the story from there in a couple of spots, but overall I had a good time.  I'm glad they didn't stretch themselves too thin with having the Justice Gang and Metamorpho in this.  Only minor gripe I have is with the retconning of the reasoning Jor El sent Kal El to Earth.  I just don't get it and don't think it was necessary at all.  That's the only bad part in my opinion.  Overall a good movie and recommend going to see it.  Looking forward to Milly Alcock in her Supergirl film!

I have to say, when it comes to what they did with Jor El, it's been done before.  And it's really not a big deal.  Especially since a lot of those who complain about it, will tell me "Oh, race/gender swapping is okay"  This isn't to say you say that, but if people can get behind those ideas, there's no reason to not get behind this change.

HOWEVER...my thought on it is it's Lex messing with the recording.  It's not something that had to be figured out this movie.  Can easily be found Lex was able to masterly do the video to play out the way he wanted.  It's not like he isn't a genius.

Lots of dumb/weird things have been done before.  I wouldn't say this particular thing is a "big deal", more just like a "huh?  what for?" kind of thing.  It runs against what I consider the Superman story.  I've never read Jor-El to be a bad guy or that Superman wasn't meant to be anything other than a beacon of hope.  I think the Jor-El from the original Reeve Superman was done far, far better in that regard.

Live as one of them, Kal-El, to discover where your strength and your power are needed.  Always hold in your heart the pride of your special heritage.  They can be a great people, Kal-El, they wish to be.  They only lack the light to show the way.  For this reason above all, their capacity for good, I have sent them you... my only son.

Lex said he didn't alter the recording in the film, and from what I been watching and reading in terms of reviews and synopses of the movie, it certainly seems this is indeed an intentional change on the part of James Gunn.

I thought it was jarring too. It seems more like an Invincible plotline than Superman.

I think I like the idea that they wanted it to be about how Superman chooses to be the hero.  It's not in the DNA.

And it very much may be that Lex didn't alter it, but wouldn't he say that even if he did?

His DNA really had nothing to do with any of it.  Clark chooses to be a hero whether it was in his DNA or not.   Having Jor-El tell his son to conquer and be fruitful and multiply instead of being a beacon of hope doesn't lend anything to the character of Superman or his decision to become a hero and do good.  The Kents had way, way more to do with Clark becoming a hero than his Kryptonian parents ever did.  It's a superfluous, arbitrary change and appears to be shoehorned in as nothing more than change for the sake of change.

Looking forward to the success of and praise for this movie mitigating future doomsaying threads about movies that don’t come out for a year or more. ☺️

List of movies they were right about.

I highly doubt being wrong about one movie is going to disrupt their business model.

Somebody here has a business model based on making doomsaying threads? How does that work?

I was referring to YouTubers - not necessarily anyone on here (that I know of)
