I first saw this, and thought it was a prank

I remember at the beginning of MCU there was a strict policy of all actors get one shot in the MCU... they couldn't ever replay a different character.

Frankly, with a few minor exceptions, MCU went south after Captain America: Civil War and the turd of Endgame is only barely matched by our very own Incarnates story. (More on that later*)

But here we have an interesting conundrum. Is Iron Man reincarnated as VVD? Is it an alternative universe Iron Man (Victor von Stark?)

for me, RDj was a centerpiece of the MCU, and the first movies were outstanding (even IM2 & 3)

But what we see here is exciting. Have Marvel finally got their act back together for MCU phase 16?

Let's hope

There's a fine line between a numerator and a denominator but only a fraction of people understand that.

He's a dynamite actor, so I have some small hope that we might finally get a passable version of the (IMO) greatest of Marvels iconic villains.  As with all things, I'll watch it and then form an opinion.  Keeping my fingers crossed.  🤞

We don't know if he's playing Victor Von Doom.  He's playing Dr. Doom.  He could be an alternate universe where Tony Stark becomes Dr. Doom.  May have been a what if title that did this as well.

I wondered this myself or was Iron Man Tony Stark somehow "reincarnated" with the soulstones to become Dr Doom?

There was.  Per Wikipedia:

"In What If: Iron Man: Demon in an Armor, Tony Stark is Doom's college roommate rather than Reed Richards, inspiring Doom to develop a machine that allows him to transfer his mind into Stark's body while leaving Stark trapped in his body with no memory of his past. While Doom uses Stark's connections and company to establish himself, the amnesic Stark- believing himself to be Doom- works to rebuild his life, creating his own company and forming his own reputation from the ground up. This culminates in a confrontation between the two wearing early versions of their respective armors- Doom having developed a green-and-silver Iron Man armor while Stark has created Doom's costume with gold and a red cloak-, during which Doom reveals the truth about their switch, only for Stark to reject the offer to switch back because Doom has destroyed the name of Tony Stark while Doctor von Doom has developed an honorable reputation."

Get busy living... or get busy dying.  That's goddamn right.

As with most of my favorite movies (like the LOTR trilogy), I tend to enjoy what they got right rather than dwell on the smaller things they changed(or got wrong about characters, storylines, etc).

It's all fantasy/sci-fi anyhow, don't take it too seriously. 😁

Those times you saw no footprints, I had Fly toggled on.

The problem I feel, at least for me, is I want to see accurate and done good, before they go off and change them.  I'm sure there's others who think that too.  And some of us don't consider past movies as accurate as we want them 😛

Yeah, Doom is one of those iconic characters that has to come off a certain way.  If you don't get it right, it just won't land correctly (with me, at least) and the entire film will feel off kilter and just sort of "wrong" to me.  It's hard to explain.

I feel this weird fan-boy connection to Doom, more than the Fantastic 4 proper, because Doom was such a frequent villain appearing in all the other comics that I read loved as a kid.  I enjoyed the character so much that I actually followed and read the Doom 2099 series back when that came out (which I thought was a very cool version of Doom and really loved, overall, even if the art was a bit crapolla).

I agree with your first point.

I don't hold to the second point.  Too often I see Doom as ridiculous and over-the-top, but I tend to see him as more grounded a character than a lot of the "phenomenal cosmic power" stuff the F4 have to square off against, so I tolerate him.  (I see Marvel as getting more ludicrous the higher up the power chain they go.  I much prefer more grounded characters.)

I definitely agree with your feelings on Doom 2099.  That is a character I'd very much like to see brought to screen.  A great deal of the 2099 stuff I deeply loved.

I can't get excited about this.  The "multiverse" has played itself out for me and this smacks of nostalgia baiting by a desperate company looking backward instead of moving forward.  So many other very talented actors out there who could do the role of Doom proper justice and not an alternate universe discount Iron Man.  There's another thread going with some suggestions - Cillian Murphy, Karl Urban, Christian Bale...  any of them would be better choices for this part.  Not that I don't love RDJ as he's a great actor, but he's had his time in the MCU.  Bringing him back as alternate universe evil Iron Man Doctor Doom just feels cheap.

I'll give them a chance, especially since they have the Russo Brothers doing it.  Also, people are cheering in the crowd, so plenty seem to like it.

It just wouldn't have been my idea to go that route.

Well, I only speak for myself.

I don't pretend to represent all the "we's" and "us's" who might agree with me.
