I started a tip mish about the person impersonating me on their blog.  I went through the mish and accidentally defeated one of the people I was supposed to rescue.  Now I can't complete the mish.  If I had known that I wasn't allowed to defeat the prisoner, then I would have been more careful.  I think it would be fair to inform me in the mish brief of this.  I've been told that there are several tip mishs like this.

Can this please be added to the mish brief(s)?  I actually *do* read the briefs on tip mishs because I always do them alone (except for the Void Hunter & Gamma Tank defeat-badge mishs.)

Superbase passcode (Excelsior) is "passcode-6475"

It's all a Nemesis plot.  But not everything is a Nemesis plot!

I mean, having some twists and turns isn't a bad thing - heroes and villains alike often must work with missing or incomplete information, after all...

Sure you can. You exit the mission, set another mission as the active mission, and then set the tip mission back as the active mission. Everything you did is dumped and you start the mission over. And if that doesn't work for some reason? Log off that character and log on another character, run another mission to be safe, then log back. Or log off the game, wait 10 seconds, then log back on and try again.

The thing is, some tip missions have killable NPCs you need and others don't. They aren't all the same. (Edit: And going through all the tip missions to find out which versions of which ones are set up that way is a fairly big task.) So my recommendation is to approach all rescue-able NPCs as being exceedingly fragile and making the effort to pull enemies away from them even if the NPCs are invulnerable.

Edit again: Oh, yeah, it's that one. Yeah, also make sure you pull any other enemies within aggro distance of the heroes and eliminate them before freeing the heroes. Once freed, they become valid targets for other mobs that will 1-shot them and make the mission unable to be completed if they are within aggro distance. So... just make sure you wipe out anything near the target NPCs by drawing them away, and you'll be fine.

This is a bug, not a feature.  NPCs which are spawned as Allies can sometimes be defeated by enemy AoE damage.  Reset the mission and fight the bad guys at a safe distance from the hostage.

Get busy living... or get busy dying.  That's goddamn right.

if it is the "stop blogger's reign of terror", i submitted a bug report on that 5 years ago. where the super stunner would kill the hostages on their auto-rez because the NPC levels were way below the mission level and hence easily damaged, and killed, this way.

Yes, Ridiculous Girl.  That's exactly the problem.  Thank you for renewing awareness to it!  Maybe we can both get the Bug Hunter badge...?

Or pull the mobs away from NPC hostages. If there are no enemies around them, and you aren't near them until all the fighting is done, they won't be affected by the enemy AoEs.

this will work if you have prior knowlege of this problem, otherwise you engage the mobs as you might normally would and find out that your NPC has died through no fault of your own... this is very easy to do since i have redone this mission several years later, comepletly forgetting the problem and not noticing that the NPC was dead and had already faded by the time the fight was done and that i could not complete the mission. 😉

they fixed part of the problem, but this mission in particular is problematic. 🙂

Personally, I just pull enemies away from hostages regardless unless I know with absolute certainty that the hostage is invulnerable. That way I don't have to remember what missions work what way.

This is a well-known, and commonly experienced issue. Other places where this is observed include rescuing PPD hostages in Safeguard missions.

There is a fun sort of flip-side: If a Kheldian player spawns a tip mission where all the enemies originally con as friendly, such as "eliminate the guest speaker" level 20-29 alignment mission, the extra quantum spawns will spawn as hostile, and the nearby "friendly" mobiles will attack and defeat them!
