a tiny rant

So, a player asks for help on the lfg channel. Fine.

I was just wrapping up an ouro arc, so it took me 90 seconds to send the message to see if they still needed a hand. 3 minutes later, I get the invite.
I get on the team, three others have also arrived to help. And I get on the map, and I know the map. Shadowhunter isn't even on this map.

All this idiot had to do was say, "No, I'm good". But because I was trying to be helpful, I end up wasting time. I do not get it.

it may be he was a newer player and didn't fully understand what you needed to know. Did you actually communicate with him before arriving at the destination?

Just speculating here but if you didn't ask what he didn't know to tell you...

There's a fine line between a numerator and a denominator but only a fraction of people understand that.

There's nothing to speculate. He asked for help. I offered it like 90 seconds after his ask because I was busy wrapping up an ouro arc.

3 minutes go by after I'd sent him the tell asking him if he still needed help. No reply.
My first tell was "Still need a hand?" And 3 minutes later, I send him another tell "Guess not". Then I get the invite.

It's like they're on the other side of their keyboard, waiting to see how long they can keep me waiting before they act. (obviously, they were distracted or something..that's just the way it seemed)

It's just a tiny rant. Hardly worth the time. It just doesn't make sense to me why someone asks for help, then gets it - clearly, as the mission is complete - but they don't relay any communication to anyone. They don't chime in on the channel they asked for help on and let people know they got the help they needed. Maybe that's an unnecessary courtesy. I dunno. I haven't asked for help doing anything in a mission since we had to simultaneously click on glowies, back on retail. It just seemed rude to me. Someone is kind enough to stop what they're doing to help you, and you can't give them the courtesy of letting them know the EB has been taken care of. Won't be the first time a player hasn't extended a courtesy.

A tiny rant, from a tiny heart.

Don't worry. That 5 minutes spent away from whatever your next superfluous goal was did not, in fact, matter in the grand scheme of things.

But I'm sure the person who invited you anyways appreciated your answer to their call to arms, and saw it as an example of this fine, helpful community we have.

Hopefully they never see this post.

Going back to my time with The Cosmic Council, I can attest that Ukase does not have an under-sized heart.

Well, that's kind. But Cosmic has rules that are far more restrictive. And the last thing I want is one of 331's famous chancla's being tossed at my noggin. While any member is allowed to complain, I kept a lot of the stuff that defied my understanding of human behavior to myself.

It's strange. I come here to just share a little annoyance, and some folks just decide I'm the devil. Well, when they can sell their opinion for money, maybe then I'll be concerned.
It's definitely making a mountain out of a molehill. I was going to spend the time anyway - whether they needed the help or not. The irritation is with the lack of communication. But that was early this morning. It's all over now. Heck, it was over after I finished the post.

Eh...  They may have been inviting/communicating with the other people that joined and then trying to get to where they were all no doubt racing off to, then saw your message and invited you because hey, maybe you just wanted to join up with a running buddy or two to knock out some missions.
Heck, maybe *they* were thinking that a running buddy might not be the worst thing in the world and were hoping that at least one of the people that volunteered to help might stick around.

And, of course, they may have quickly gotten what they needed, stepped away from their keyboard for a moment to pour a celebratory mug of beer or whatever and then came back and saw your message.

Sure, they could have tried to send a quick "problem solved:" message out there, but how long is "too long" to get around to something like that?  Is 3 minutes really too long?  It might take that long to say hello and thank the people that showed up early, then thank them again and say goodbye once they got done.  And no, it doesn't take 3 minutes to just type "hello, thanks for coming", and "thanks again for helping.  Take care" or whatever, but maybe there was some more conversation happening.
