Dear Devs-Thank you for everything you are doing for the game.  I generally write three or more sections in my background separated with hard breaks.  I generally use the entire 1023 character limit. Single whole block paragraphs are hard to read and not what I want to subject the reader to. I cannot see my full background story (and I've noticed it with another player's toon) in the Personal Info (J key) view.

I'd love for everyone (and myself) to see my full (1023 limit) bios for my characters, jokes, bad puns and all and I understand a scrolling option might be necessary .

Can this be done? In short, I'd like the entire bio to be shown.

Thanks again for the time and attention.

Moi

----------------

Picture Guide:

I've included various pictures showing the ID and Personal Info bio's from characters across Reunion, Victory, and Excelsior. None of the bios is fully shown in the ID section as you can see from the pictures.

This issue is universal across all servers. The issue happens regardless if the 1023 cap is breeched of not (I've seen the program cut off extra text to fit the 1023 cap-no problem with that and that is not the problem). While I'd like more room (1023+ text space) to write, I'd like people to see what I've written first.

I've screenshotted sections of the stories to show the complete story and what appears in the ID section.

Here are the entire stories for context and understanding.

The Vegetable Avenger:

Fria, Big Junk Food advocate, attended the panel "Is it Junk if it's Food?" at that odd pancake shop. She ordered a hot cross bun but the cross was on her reader! That strange accident gifted her the healing power of vegetables and the power of vegetable juice! A whirlpool  of carrot juice goodness? Blasts of celery juice? A justice jalepeno juice ball? Spicy! Broccoli, Cauliflower, and Okra juice blasts? In your mouth wrongdoer!  Friend and foe, you'll get your serving of veggies, whether you like it or not! Justice is served, no plate needed!

Lo wrongdoer! Stop your crimes lest you want helpings of veggies, including the ones you don't like!

"Wrongdoer! You will not squash me! We are in un-chard-ed waters. I've turnip-ed for battle. Lettuce stop making bad vegetable puns!"

Agent Acumen:

That strange accident at that odd pancake shop during the "This Doesn't Make Sense; Therefore Conspiracy!" panel heightened Janet's Common Sense, subpar then, to super heroic levels! Dedicated to Common Sense, she built a beam weapon to disintegrate irrational thinking and learned the best ways to defend herself in a fight! Joining the U.S. Department of Truth. Helpfulness. Inspiring. Necessary. Kindness., she now fights crime, poor choices, has trouble being kind, and believes monochromatic coloring is best!

Lo wrongdoers, and lawbreakers! T.H.I.N.K. is coming for you so consider your choices lest T.H.I.N.K's judgement hurts your feelings!

"Fed. Agent registered superior common sense wrongdoer! T.H.I.N.K. before you act! Give up now!"

Surprisingly she has heard a certain Captain Common Sense claims to have attended and been empowered by the accident at the same panel! Interesting reader...

Holly Jolly:

Let the jingle jongle of handcuffs warn wrongdoer's to stop their crimes!

Little did Emily realize that "Burl Ives Have a Holly Jolly Christmas song Palooza" at that odd pancake shop would change her life forever. As the avowed anti-religious-holiday activist and secularist protested the event (and phoning the police to report mistletoe music violations) that strange accident gave her the power of Commercialized Christmas, Yule, Solstice, Mid-Winter holidays and Saturnalia and Festivus as well dear reader! Justice runs cold like the winter season and powered by currents to broadcast the holiday messages and song. She now works for the D.H. (Department of Holidays, Winter Agency, Christmas Bureau, Humbug Office, Burl Ives Directorate) fighting for truth, justice, and federal holidays.

Lo wrongdoers! By Golly, do not make her use her holiday powers! There will be no cup of cheer for you!

"Have a holiday hello wrongdoing! Snow or not you're coming with me!"

Margarine Marvel:

Little did Marci, a vegetarian notary, realize that strange accident at that odd pancake shop doing the pro-margarine rally and march, not parade, outside it would leave her so changed! The witty wordplay between the two sides (pro-butter the other) was margarinely entertaining. While it rained on their parade, err march, she was left with magnificent Margarine powers including creating and using rock-hard encasing or protecting, piping-hot, razor-sharp, or honking ginormous shaped variants. Oh the plant-oily goodness dear reader! She joined the Order of Cookery to pursue justice, gastronomic included! And you might be knocked off your feet by the taste!

Lo wrongdoers! You have a choice, make the right one! And it better not include butter! And it butter not be crime either!

"There is no margarine of error, wrongdoer"

Nemesis Noodle:

Little did Nat realize that strange pasta accident at that odd pancake shop would leave her so changed! Left with a giant hardened piece of macaroni, and fierce pasta fighting and defensive skills (including egg noodle awareness, the blinding fast Hands of Udon, disappearing stealth rice noodle mode, spinach pasta blinding powder, carbo-healing, and the dreaded "Only veggie noodles for you!" confront challenge) she now fights for justice (and more parmesan...)!

Lo wrongdoer, she's not an impasta but a real agent of The Order of Noodle! Beware the glint of her Noodle staff in the dark of night! She's the bane of all crime; you might say she's it's nemesis!

"It's al dente justice for you wrongdoer!"

PISTACHI-OW:

That strange drupe encounter at the pancake shop left Mia plant powered with pistachi pizazz! And sore fingers from trying to open those shells. Not only could she summon, form, and materialize stone hard drupes and their shells, she could turn also transform the earth into pistachio (butter and paste included, molten hot and seasoned even; delicious)! Oh the power! Oh the possibilities! Oh nuts,  err drupes! Oh yum! Although there is the dreaded pistachio gas, perhaps the power of the mighty bean?!!! She got crackin' on using those powers for good and now lo wrongdoers! The patently powerful pistachio is now fighting crime as well as high blood sugar!

Careful wrongdoer's, the shells might hurt your fingers...so give up now!  BIFF! POW! PISTACHI-OW!!!!

"Wrongdoer! Let's put you on the right path of no crime and low-glycemic index! Have a serving! And sorry about the OW! But I'll never apologize about the health benefits!"

I could be wrong, but as I understand it, the 1,023 character limit includes line breaks.  If you want to have line breaks. you will need to take that into account when writing a biography.

Is there a technical reason why the F10 Battle Cry is limited to 32 characters? I'm not asking for even as many as 64, but 32 is often too short to write a simple sentence.

Not only do linebreaks count, but if you do any editing watch the character count. It can jump up several counts even if you end up using less characters. I usually do my origin, edit and look at the character count.

If its over the max I'll copy/paste it into a text file, get rid of line breaks and paste back into a clean origin field. It usually ends up giving at least a hundred or so characters back as freed up space.

Yes, line breaks do count, though there is oddness with the bio display.

I did check with a simple test of 100 char strings and occasionally it looked like the line breaks counted twice on edits.

Display checks showed everything if I expanded the window (and sometimes it had a scroll ability)

It's not really the bio limits, but the limits on how the game displays the text.

So, don't judge the text, I just had chatgpt generate a paragraph (and then I added the numbers to reach the 1023 limit)

That is all 1023 characters showing.  Is it possibly related to your UI Scale or the window being too small?

I believe spaces also count towards the character limit.

Check out Michiyo's modder or Solerverse's thread.  Got a punny character? You should share it.

That's not the problem. The problem is that the scroll bar for bios that are longer than the basic bio window isn't there any more. So unless someone remembers to resize the bio window when they read someone's bio, they see a bio that doesn't fit. Yes, the character count for bios includes everything. That includes spaces, line breaks, and other special characters. (Worse, it counts those special characters as their ASCII format which is 2-4 characters after the bio is initially written.) However, it isn't the character count that the author is citing to the best of my understanding.

Edit: Aaaaaaaaannnnnnnnd... others have already pointed that out. Apologies for the repeat.

Yup. It's maddening to backspace a lot, redo something and then hitting space bar adds 7 characters to the count.

No, it is because the mentioned bio is not a single paragraph and the bio window doesn't have a scroll bar any more. All it takes is a few line breaks and the written bio goes past the provided window. This is remedied by expanding the bio window, but players used to be able to scroll bios to read them. And I personally find it annoying to ahve to expand the bio window every time I go to read someone's bio because the window keeps shifting back to its default size for me.

I respectfully disagree and appreciate your post. You just resize the window. Thank you.

Then what are you asking for? Character counts in text have always included special characters like line breaks.

And as for resizing the window, I do. Every time I go to read someone's bio because the window keeps shrinking back down to default size. So if that isn't your request, I'll go make a request for it.

I was asking for people (and me) to see entire bios. I did not know you could resize the ID window. Resizing the window solves the problem.  I thought the window size was fixed-sometimes I've seen a scroll bar on other's ID panel's and sometimes not.  Thanks again.
