lemming Posted March 10 Posted March 10 I don't think OP plays over here though? They check to see if HC has implemented the MM changes, complains that HC hasn't, then goes away for X amount of time? MMs have gotten some attention from HC, but OP does seem to be focused on one aspect of the game. (from a very quick scan of posts) 1
Ruin Mage Posted March 10 Posted March 10 The changes other servers have made can range from great to "okay but why" and that's fine. That's the same for how people view HC's changes. Let servers try to do things their own way. Let servers try to find their own way to stand out. Easy as pie. Though I will think you have a humiliation fetish if you play Thunderspy given they think the HC playerbase is full of pay pigs and sheep. 4 alright buddy, it's time to shit yourselfcasts earthquake, activates dispersion bubble
SeraphimKensai Posted March 10 Posted March 10 Honestly all games get boring after awhile. The great part about CoH now is the binaries are out so multiple entities (including yourself) can take the game in new and creative directions. All the various server groups(shards) have some interesting concept to them that makes them unique. There's nothing stopping anyone from playing on multiple shards. Video games should be an outlet to help enjoy your leisure time, so if you're not having fun do something that causes you to have fun, because let's face it we only have so many years on this planet before we end up back in diapers or worse. Enjoy yo selves! 2

Get a little of something I like on one, and a little of something else on another, and maybe something else on a third......and then, instead of liking each for standing out in their own way I end up frustrated that each lacks what they others have and that I can't have everything in one place. Give me everything and let me choose to use what I want. Stand out by having the mostest of the most stuff. Frustrating.
Ruin Mage Posted March 10 Posted March 10 (edited) HC is only really behind in costume-related things because they do not have a dedicated person or persons for it. They also prefer to make sure MOST things can fit on all 3 body types unless its designed for one in particular I think? Plus HC isn't going to just shatter the costume creator on a whim (Which TSpy has done - they've broken the sliders) Power-wise, HC has done more and has the Sentinel AT. HC has created: Symphony Control Seismic Blast Electrical Affinity Arsenal Control Storm Blast Arsenal Assault Sonic Assault ? I feel like I'm missing something HC has also had changes to several powersets, including revamps to Energy Melee & initiated overhauls to Masterminds. Some of these changes have not been well received, but they are changes! Content wise we're the one with the most. Tough end-game content for those that want to give a scaling challenge on 1 of 3 TFs, a new SF overall, the Old School feel as an optional challenge on LRSF, some new Master of badges applied to a few of the Trials (Eden, Sewer, and I forgot the other one), new contacts, and a dabbling of other things. Even a revamped holiday in a new V-Day mission! Rebirth does have cool things like a Kheldian revamp (likely on the table for HC as well, but who knows when) and the Guardian AT. Plus they have a dedicated costume person so they have that going for them too. It should be about the quality not the quantity and that is what HC has (to my knowledge/understanding as an occasional beta tester) operated by. Debatable on the quality of some of these changes if you ask around, but it's what they try to operate under. If I had to recommend another server to check out for slower-paced more Live-like gameplay? Rebirth is what I'd offer to point people to. Good people over there as far as I know/remember. Oops, I'm glazing Homecoming a lot and not getting paid for it. Edited March 10 by Ruin Mage 3 1 alright buddy, it's time to shit yourselfcasts earthquake, activates dispersion bubble
Super Atom Posted March 10 Posted March 10 3 hours ago, PeregrineFalcon said: And my issue isn't with Arcane, obviously. It's with what was said, and I've seen many others post something similar, in case my post didn't make that clear. My issue is that I want Homecoming to stay around for a long time. Look, Homecoming doesn't have that many players, on Friday evenings it's usually up to what? 5k or so? Just because Concord wished they had that many players doesn't mean that's a big number. When that number gets near zero Homecoming will likely cease to be. That will happen eventually, and I want to delay that day for as long as possible. Every person that gets chased away because someone on the forum, in or game, tells them to go play on another server, reduces Homecoming's lifespan by an unknown amount. And I've seen that these things tend to snowball. People start leaving and then more people leave because people are leaving. Chasing people away is bad for Homecoming. How bad? I don't know because I cannot foresee the future. But I'll ask all of you. If you want Homecoming to stay up for a long time then isn't it in your best interest to not chase players away? That's just natural. None of the servers can produce content fast enough to keep the high numbers, not even actual developed MMO's manage to do that. For a private server for an already low-popularity MMO homecoming is honestly doing great. CoH has such a dedicated fanbase though, i think at a point the numbers will likely slow down to a crawl of people dropping out, and spike each update. I'm already playing other games waiting for more stuff to do, as are plenty of friends who play. Another fun private server for an MMO that deserved better, Return of Reckoning, usually bottoms out at around 700ish players and spikes with more content. Homecoming will be fine for a long time still, It's only a couple years away from being up longer than the actual game was. As for what was said, honestly it's a bait post so they can circlejerk on tspy discord about "mad" homecoming players, because of some cringe sense of tribalism, forgetting entirely Homecoming doesn't care if you talk about other servers or even go play there. 3
Luminara Posted March 10 Posted March 10 There are a handful of people who have a problem with HC. It's their problem. Don't respond. Don't fire back. Don't even deflect and absorb. Just ignore it. The longer it continues as a one-sided drama, the deeper the hole they dig themselves into. Let them dig that hole, don't interfere and don't give them ammunition. Not even here on the forums. Keep being the incredible bunch of people you are, and when people are looking at more than server metrics, they'll see that the reason more people play here is because the atmosphere is better. There are times when the right solution is not fighting back. This is one, 2 2 1 Get busy living... or get busy dying. That's goddamn right.

Don't expect us to follow. 1 1 If someone posts a reply quoting me and I don't reply, they may be on ignore. (It seems I'm involved with so much at this point that I may not be able to easily retrieve access to all the notifications) Some players know that I have them on ignore and are likely to make posts knowing that is the case. But the fact that I have them on ignore won't stop some of them from bullying and harassing people, because some of them love to do it. There is a group that have banded together to target forum posters they don't like. They think that this behavior is acceptable. Ignore (in the forums) and /ignore (in-game) are tools to improve your gaming experience. Don't feel bad about using them.

Game Master GM Crumpet Posted March 11 Game Master Posted March 11 I think this conversation has run it's course. Other servers exist and do different things to us. We think that's great and wish them nothing but success. It's been a good discussion and no bashing of other servers which is great, but I think that good points have been made and it's time to close the discussion. If people wish to add suggestions that aren't direct copies of what other servers are doing then please feel free to make a thread on the suggestions page. One of the devs may well look and go "I love that idea" and run with it. 2 2 2
