Atonamo2 Posted June 23 Posted June 23 With the resent increase in server population. I'd like to suggest, Neverloggers be booted. You see them each day, in Pocket D and other places, with an ability auto-casting, to prevent afking out. I understand there are those who farm. I'm not talking about them. I'm talking about the ones, that remain in the same spot, logged in, never moving and just taking up server space, for hours. HOWEVER, if these people are a good source of revenue for you, they should stay. Afterall, while this is a passion for you Devs and GMs, you deserve support. I'm just making a suggestion. 1 1

That isn't what stops them from afking out. Being in a TF/AE/Ouro team is what prevents logging. I think they were probably in a timed farm and when it exits, they pop out and perform that behavior until the person pays attention again. oh, and there is no revenue. 2 2
Ghost Posted June 23 Posted June 23 I agree! They should be auto logged, and their names released, regardless of level. This goes double for the annoying characters who leave healing aura on auto.

If you just have a power on auto-cast, you will still get afk-booted. They in Task Force mode, either they are in a TF, Flashback, or AE arc. Since I don’t want a change to TF mode, I have to give this a “No” vote What this team needs is more Defenders
Psyonico Posted June 24 Posted June 24 Can I ask why it bothers you that people can be AFK and still be in game? Honestly, other than maybe forcing you to go to Pocket D 2 rather than Pocket D, what possible impact can this have on you? 1 1 What this team needs is more Defenders

I made a suggestion during and because of the server population. What type of gamer prevents AFK, with no intention to playing for a long period, during such moments that affects other players negatively? The individual who made a comment after yours. clearly did so, to point out an intent within the game. Given the subject matter of this thread.

Skyhawke Posted June 24 Posted June 24 Man, AI bots are getting testy lately... 2 Sky-Hawke: Rad/WP Brute Alts galore. So...soooo many alts. Originally Pinnacle Server, then Indomitable and now Excelsior
Atonamo2 Posted June 24 Author Posted June 24 5 minutes ago, Rudra said: During what moments that affects other players negatively how? As I would hope a gamer would understand. As a player enters a game, given a server limited broadband, this broadband is reduce. This creates a limit to how many people can play on one server. Player who go afk, for long periods or times, with no intent to play, reduces access to servers, in order to play. Most people play this game, with friends. This is also affected by the intentional, non-playing.
lemming Posted June 24 Posted June 24 You know what gets most annoying on the forums? People arguing about how to argue. On topic stuff: Heck, I get annoyed at myself when I have an autoattack while I'm not in mission. And sometimes the crowd around the portal gets in the way. Once gave a VR to someone when I was trying to give to an alt. (Just once, and now I am way more careful) However, it's usually not a big deal and there are a bunch of other AEs if it does. Some get hardly any traffic. 1

Psyonico Posted June 24 Posted June 24 I get the feeling the OP is upset they weren’t able to multi-box on Excelsior this weekend. That’s like the only negative impact I can think of when the servers are red. I rarely play on Excelsior, mostly Everlasting, but the handful of times that it has been red I have noticed no performance degradation. 1 1 What this team needs is more Defenders

My personal take; If the server gets to the point where there is a queue to login, then I'd say start cracking down on the AFK-ers. Yes, the server population got into the red this weekend, and GMs warned not to multi-box, but we never got to the queuing phase. That being said, I am also of a mind that going AFK for long periods of time, especially if you're exploiting the TF mechanic to avoid the auto-logout feature, is bad form, (doubly so if you also set a power to auto-fire). Heck, I'd even be in favor of treating people who AFK and set powers to autofire in frequented areas as harassing or as some other violation, (especially if they've gotten tells or other such warnings to turn off the autofire power)...

It's a touchy subject.. But this would create a lot of 'false-positives' if there were genuine consequences. I personally don't double or triple-box when servers are red, but sometimes I will have one AFK farmer doing AFK farms for me if I really need influence or recipes. One account, one farmer. All other accounts offline. And sometimes, even when I have the intention to be checking on my AFK farmer every ten minutes, something happens IRL that takes me away from the computer. Oftentimes these are things I expect to take a minute or two and then it turns into 30 minutes, an hour, etc. And when these things happen, I'm not going to go back to my computer to make sure my AFK farmer doesn't truly go AFK.

Well, I was more specifically talking about someone who's parked themselves by a trainer or in a heavily traveled area, with a power on autofire. Frankly, the area around AE portals could be ignored/exempted as far as I'm concerned...

Nor would I expect you to do so. My post, is entirely about players who are in the game, with no intention of playing it for a long period of time. Long period of time, 2 hours or more of no activity. Farming, and farm sitting, is playing the game. Same is true with mission sitters to boost the mission difficulty. As a disabled vet., and a long, long, long time gamer. My goal is never to be a burden nor a nuisance to other players. Edited June 24 by Atonamo2

My first game I played with my children is Dark Age of Camelot. I taught them to respect the game and being able to play it. While remembering that other players, while there was a queue, were waiting to play with their family or friends. The rule was, if you leave your computer, you were done playing, unless you were getting food or meeting a Bio requirement.
Ukase Posted June 24 Posted June 24 So, I can understand being annoyed with players whose characters smash their fist into the ground when out of the mission. Same with folks with burn on auto. I have seen a couple of players in Faultline AE do this on Indom. The three (and sometimes 4 accounts, all with variations of the same global) will just be there in front of the contact for several hours. What you, OP, may not realize is that sometimes, people are working from home and trying to squeeze in some goal or objective they have. And sometimes, real life gets in the way.

Server technology has advanced since DAoC and COH. Those three red dots don't mean "Danger! Danger! Server explosion imminent!". It's just saying there a lot of people on at the moment. Nobody's screwing the playerbase or game at large by fist slamming the AE floor for hours on end. As with sooooo many things that aren't harming anyone in this world, if it bothers you move along. Or ignore it. Or go to an AE in another zone. Lots of ways around it other than calling for an iron fisted rule to come slamming down (see what I did there?) on the players who aren't harming anyone. 1 Sky-Hawke: Rad/WP Brute Alts galore. I would hope that you are familiar with the statement, system requirements, and the stress upon a system that does not meet them, due to load. That is the entire purpose of the 3Dots, to indicate the server's stress, as set by the team. The limitation to mult-boxing is not just about stress, but to allow more people a chance to playing, without undo stress to the system. Based upon the number of single system accounts. Before having to activate a queuing login. My post has nothing to do with XP. Heck, I can buy double XP from the vendor in Pocket D. As stated, it was a suggestion. So that more players, can play, get double XP, while also gaining influence. Nothing more. I'm sure this has already been a topic which they have brainstormed already. Edited June 24 by Atonamo2

Game Master GM_GooglyMoogly Posted June 25 Game Master Posted June 25 I trimmed a series of posts that started with an ad hominem and then an argument related to that post. Please don't insult your fellow players. As to the topic at hand, we added a point to our Code of Conduct a few months back that states: Quote 9. Be considerate of others and mindful of zone capacity Raid zones (The Hive, The Abyss, The Labyrinth of Fog, etc.) have a limited capacity per instance, and AFKing in these zones can lock players out from participating in these raids. In these zones, you are expected to participate or move to another zone to free space for other players. Players who are found AFKing for long periods of time in these zones may be removed from the zone by a Game Master, and repeated offences of this behavior may result in further action being taken against your account. You may be disconnected by a GM if you use Task Forces and Architect Entertainment to bypass the AFK logout timer. In most cases a GM will only intervene if you are using this functionality in a disruptive way. Further action may be taken if you repeatedly ignore warnings from a GM. Basically, players should be considerate of each other. It's not considerate if you aren't playing and preventing someone else from playing. But we also understand that sometimes real life throws you a curve ball while your playing -- your boss calls, your kid gets hurt, you spilled a drink on your keyboard, or you really, really gotta go to the powder room -- so you were actively playing and just went afk a for a bit to handle the emergency. All that to say that GMs generally don't kick people out just for being AFK. But we reserve the right to do so if the AFK is disruptive to others and for extended periods of time. 4 2
