It's really impressive what this team of enthusiastic amateurs were able to accomplish!

...I am never paying a box price and a monthly subscription fee for this product when it looks quite bad and CoH is, y'know, right here. What a strange little relic of the CoH dark age this game has turned out to be

$60 for the base game, and a $15 per month subscription...

...and just like that, ten years work down the drain.

The cost alone is ludicrous but it gets even better with the 'What is included' section. The $60 download fee and a full price monthly subscription provides 10 character slots.

Not 10 per server, 10 per account. Minimum $75 for the same amount of slots as a single page on a single server on Homecoming.

I just noticed that the recommended system specs include 32GB RAM. Even the upcoming Battlefield 6 only recommends 16. Slideshow framerates and microstuttering ahoy.

To be fair, that's not far off of what live was.   (Well, there it was per server)

I don't think comparing what we get at HC to be that fair, though I'm not interested in trying out Ship at this point.

Oh, it's absolutely fair. HC is it's direct competition and they need to at the very least "one up" HC if they expect to survive for any appreciable amount of time.

It is fair in as far as it is an available alternative.  Even discounting HC, there's also Champions Online AND DCUO....

Hard to price against free.   Now, if you compare art, play, etc...  that's fair.

It's on the high side of pricing for the quality I've seen of it.

Oh no doubt, but IMO you need to consider the competition you're up against.  If they had gone a "freemium" model, since having a solid playerbase is so important, and assuming they had a superior product, they would probably make more money overall...

Everyone is rightly focused on price, but damn that’s a lot of RAM for a game that looks like that. Seems very risky to drop enough money for a AAA game on something that appears very poorly optimized.

Or the fact that it feels like they're saying "32 gb of ram" because that's the new "you must have this much" standard for AAA gaming now, it seems. Nerd buzzword, if you will. That and the way they're treating people on the Steam forums makes me wonder if Randy Pitchford is their PR person. 😄

It’s just crazy to me. The last three games I played all have vastly better graphics than this and didn’t recommend that much. Google came up with some minimum specs for this game that are lower, but they aren’t listed on the company’s info page. I think I’d probably have to buy a new computer to run those recommended specs.

My guess on the memory requirements would be unresolved memory leaks.

I'd say it's a CYA in case of shitty performance.
