It ain't the inf you make...

My grandmother once told me a story that many of you younger folks would call bigoted, or even racist. And perhaps that assessment would be fair. But the moral of the story remains. I'll edit it, hopefully to avoid such labels. 

One man makes 50K a year. He spends 45k a year and has 5K in the bank. 
Another man makes 24K a year, and he spends 16K a year and puts 8k in the bank. 

Who makes more money? Well, clearly the first guy makes more. But the 2nd guy has more, because he saves more. 

Do not be foolish and buy expensive hami-os for more than one character. 
As an example, I have 2 characters I want to have Fold Space. But, to 53 those d-sync provocations, (or hami ectosomes), I need 8 of them. Right now, there's 36, I think on the AH. Odds are about 20 of those are still listed at the older prices of like 1B or so. 

To heck with spending one more inf on those. I will remove the D-syncs from a given character that already has them, and put them in my email. I have more unslotters than I can even bother to take out of my character email to sell, so I'll just take two each play session, pull the d-syncs out, put them in email, and then the next character can retrieve the d-syncs, use them, and at the end, put them back in email. 

I could certainly buy them all, but that would be putting my hard earned inf in the hands of those who would seek to fleece me. Nope! I could, I suppose, buy them all at whatever price, and then relist at 1B or or more. Wouldn't HC love those AH fees sucking the inf right out of the economy! 

Don't do it, folks. Get what you need for one character, and if you can stomach using a couple of unslotters, use 'em. Why spend that kind of inf if you don't have to?

Alternatively, just slot 2x Recharge IOs in Fold Space and screw the accuracy aspect.
IIRC it brings the same number of mobs to you either way; as long as there are a sufficient number of extra critters in range to use up all your "misses".

Because you plan to take it with you when you die?  What is it for, if not to spend on the stuff you want IN A GAME?

I think he pulls them, and sends them to a char that is going to be played.   And I only have a couple hundred unslotters sitting in my email, so I can see his point.  It's not something I tend to do.  I only unslot if I'm going to retire the char and in regards to fold space, I just do recharge usually.   I do have a couple chars with provacation, but I run enough Aeon to see them drop every so often.  No need to buy.   (I tend to not buy stuff that is > 10m unless I have something to sell of the same type and I don't feel like going thru conversion)

Why the heck not?  But certainly don't buy them when you need them.  Buy them *before* you need them.  Maybe that's hoarding and maybe that's "putting them in the bank" and maybe a little bit of both.

What I do is think ahead.  It I'm going to have a level 50 character with Fold Space and I'll want to slot a few DSO Thr/A/R eventually, I'll start accumulating them long before I can slot them.  I'm just never going to pay full retail by lifting whatever offer is in the /AH.  But I will put in bids that I think will be highest outstanding bids, and let the unwashed masses sell them to me after they finish their strike force and throw it in the /AH at 5 inf.

 

Of course, I would slot enhancements in Fold Space (although I don't have many characters that use it consistently) before 47.  I would slot an Accuracy and a Recharge SO and keep them at +3 until about 37, then I would put in level 40 generic IOs.  When I could slot a level 50 DSO, I'd do that if I had one by then; if not; 50+5 IOs.  Then upgrade to lvl 53s as you pick up more DSOs (hopefully it will only be 8, but you'll get the odd failure...).

The threat DSOs are one of the few things I would even *consider* unslotting rather than just buy or take them out of storage and transfer them.  Maybe.  Everything else is easier (if not cheaper) to just buy it and upgrade it again.  I find it easier, for example, to buy a purple IO and boost it to +5 rather than go to my +5 purple storage base on another character, find it in storage, email it to myself, log to the other character, and pull it from email.  What a drag!  And drop!!!

 

And this is a little pathological, but I'd probably also rather buy ten unslotters from the /AH (again, ahead of time since I ain't paying no fifty cents for no Coke) than click on Character Items ten times.  So slow to click, then wait a few seconds to keep it from hanging up, and repeat.  Total snooze-fest.

I'm not sure how many of these I currently have in storage, to be honest, probably more than 100, but I tend to use them on things like Misdirection or Smoke Flash, which I have on many more characters!

To hoard, of course.

Not to mention - if people just drop the inf to buy these - the prices won't go down. But, if people just start burning a couple of unslotters instead - the price will drop. When it's more along the price of a cyto, then I can stomach paying for 8 of them, possibly 9 if one fails.
