One free travel power at character creation?
PaxArcana replied to dmaker's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Not what I was talking about. One less power I can grok. I think that's utterly not needed, mind. But I can understand the why of it. I was talking about one less POOL. If you get hasten, SS is in the same pool. If you get CJ, SJ is in the same pool. If you get Hover, there's Flight, right in the same pool, again. -
One free travel power at character creation?
PaxArcana replied to dmaker's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
I cannot imagine why someone would need more than four Pools (plus their Epic), anyway. I mean ... what the heck are they DOING that they need all four pools, and can't spare one for a travel power?!? -
Point of clarification: (a) Welfare is lifetime-limited to 3 years, and has been since the mid-90's. Therefor, your family must be on either SSI, or even full Social Security Disability. (b) you cannot get SSI or SSDI just because you don't want to work. You have to have a medically-proven disability, that prevents you from earning a set amount (called "Substantial Gainful Activity", which in 2019 is $1,220/month gross). (c) you cannot stay on SSI or SSDI, unless your disability continues to prevent you from working. Just because you don't see their disability, doesn't mean it isn't real. (I myself am on permanent disability, but my disability isn't obvious to people who haven't known me for years, so I get that same kind of "you just don't WANT to work" attitude all the time.)

Sprint + Ninja Run is almost as good as Superspeed. I can only presume Beast Run + Sprint is the same. You can go all the way to 50+3 without an actual Travel Power. -
Literally ANYTHING to stop ranged henchmen from brawling
PaxArcana replied to Weylin's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Well, to rain on my own parade a bit: It may be TOO simple a solution, and might not work at all. Only testing could be sure. Pets could brawl once per summon, not per day. 🙂 They might still run up to melee range before shooting things. Again, only testing could be sure. -
One free travel power at character creation?

Now ... if CoX were using something like the Mutants & Masterminds tabletop-RPG rules? Anyone who wanted to spend points on a travel power rather than on offense and defense, sure - that's balanced; the points spend on a travel power would not be available to spend on attacks, defenses, etc. But since that's not the case ... 🤷♂️ ... -

/JRanger Completely unnecessary. Travel Powers are already so ridiculously easy to get, there is no need to start handing them out for free. <--- this old-timer remembers when you couldn't get a true Travel Power until level 14 ... and even then, only if you got another power from that same pool earlier (level ... 6? Or was it 8?) ... Sprint is not and never was a Prestige power. It's as automatic and free-at-first-level as Brawl and Rest. Always has been. Comic books are not Games; you can start a comic-book hero off with all of their power, and even, as skilled as they will ever be. For example, Batman. Or for that matter, Superman (hell, technically Superman starts out nearly at full power when he's only a kid, long before officially becoming Superman at all). That's because, in comics, the entire "character growth" arc can come in terms of personality, motivations, and so forth. Unlike books and comics, where a character can grow into their powers internally ... in a game, that cannot be codified into the rules. What can be codified, is a process where the character starts out relatively weak, with only a few basic powers, and then their powers do all the growing. We start out barely more capable than "random thug with a baseball bat or pistol", and gradually grow into world-moving demigods. (Literally demigods, once you get Incarnate powers.) -
Mid's Reborn: Hero Designer
PaxArcana replied to Metalios's topic in Mids' Reborn Hero Designer's Forum
Realized I was still using Pines 2.2, so I uninstalled and came here to get the new program. But ... I can't use the Windows Self-Installer link, because AVG throws a fit when I try ...! (See image below.) Help? Someone? EDIT: I was able to go around to the side entrance, downloading an older version and using the internal Update. But someone still needs to look into why the self-install URL has been blacklisted by AVG. -
Should you not join the Vanguard before doing the MSR, in order to get Vanguard merits for all the kills etc during the Raid?

Or someone who runs a private server can give it a poke, and see what happens. 🙂 -

Change the recharge time to 600 seconds, then. Few fights last long enough for that to allow any one pet to re-muppet itself, if it takes 10 minutes for their Brawl-analog to recharge. -
Um, no. I did not suggest "teleport directly to mission door". I suggested teleport to any zone. There is absolutely nothing to be gained by forcing someone who wants to go to a Hazard zone (for whatever reason) to first go to a neighboring non-hazard zone, run/SJ/fly/whatever across it, and then go through another loading screen. Just cut to the chase - one loading screen, and poof, you arrive at the same entry point the guy who went the long way around does. Just, a minute-ish sooner with half as many loading screens. OTOH, I'd be fine with LRTP only letting you go to zones - safe, PVP, hazard, whatever - that you have all the Exploration Badges for. Create a new badge for each such zone, "<zone name> Beacon". If you have it for X zone, you can LRTeleport there. If you don't, you can't. But I still say, all zones. .... I, for one, think "eh, whatever floats their boat". I am unmoved by the fact that they elect to enjoy the game in a different way than I do.

Yes. And the side-topic of "can't you just choose not to be offended" is related. Tangentially, at the very least. Because that, too, is an attitude that can drive people away.
-
I feel compelled to point out, there is a wide difference between "don't let it bother you", and "don't react to it". It is entirely possible to be completely infuriated by something ... and just walk away. Not everyone, in every situation. But it certainly is possible. OTOH, just as everyone has their kryptonite ... everyone has their hotbutton issue they just can't walk away from. Some of us have more than one. This is one of mine. Unintentional harm is still harm. And what you said, absolutely is harmful. I've seen it used all too often by both the misguided, and the intentionally rude. It doesn't matter which of those two you actually are, harm is still harm is still harm. People get offended, even upset. Not because they choose to, but because something offends or upsets them. There is no choice about being upset, the only choice is how the person deals with it. .... and with this nonsense, I no longer believe you are merely misguided. You are a troll, you are intentionally seeking to do harm. It is not only the mentally ill who can be, and are, upset by things. YOU TOO are upset by things. Hearken back to the difference of opinion you and I have about copyright considerations in CoX. You got just as steamed as anyone else in those threads. Those of us who frown on infringing characters upset you, and our desire to see that policed offends you. There's no shame in either .... it simply is. And you had no choice about whether to be offended, upset, annoyed, irked, mildly irritated, or whatever other description you might care to put on how you felt in those discussions. You were, whatever it was. Whether you wanted to be, or not. It is the same, when someone other than you, is upset or offended by something else. .... because we are human beings, and those of us who are not sociopaths have certain hardwired social/psychological responses built into our central nervous systems - the product of a few million years of evolution.

Doesn't even have to be Mag 1000. Mag 20 would do it. For duration, it could be only, say, 3 seconds ... and pulsed out every 1-2 seconds through the Supremacy aura. Get too far, and the pets are no longer nailed to the floor - their usual behavior vis-a-vis stay/move would reassert. -
.... arrogant dismissal of another person's authentic and genuine distress, like this? Only serves to increase the negative impact of it all. IOW, you are being unhelpful when you post things like that. It may also be impossible. As I said, everyone has their own kryptonite when it comes to things like this. I now sincerely hope you DO run into yours - maybe you'll finally understand what we've been trying to tell you.

All zones. Hazard, PvP, all of them. Not just the "safe" Zones.
-
Except you're not offering advice. You're subtly belittling and insulting anyone who ever gets bothered or offended. I'll grant you may not even realize it. I've heard the exact same nonsense from a lot of very well-meaning people, who earnestly believed the tripe they were spewing. Their earnest belief, however, did not transform that tripe and nonsense into a profound truth. Your suggestion is anything BUT simple. People do not CHOOSE to be upset by things - they either are, or are not. If you've never been truly upset, if the only upsetting things in your life so far have been minor enough for you to shrug them off ... then the advice I offer to you is: do not assume that it is because you are so awesome and self-controlled that you can choose not to be bothered by anything at all. Because the simple truth is, that you have been inordinately lucky not to encounter something that manages to get past all your defenses like they weren't there. Everyone has a "kryptonite" that will devastate them. EVERYONE, no exceptions. Yes, including you. And I don't mean utterly devastating things like a death in the family, I mean, everyone has an ordinary, even a small thing, that they will simply No. Be. Able. To. Ignore. If you have been fortunate enough not to encounter yours ... honestly, I envy you. Because I trip over mine at least four or five times a year. ... For some - relevant to this thread - it's criticism. For others - also relevant to this thread - it's people who farm and PL in this game. For a few, it can be a sensory issue (a genre of music, a color, etc). For you ...? Neither you nor I know, yet. And I honestly hope that remains true until the end of your days.
-
And I am saying, no, that is not true. What doesn't bother me, might drive you absolutely apeshit. And vice versa. It's not really that you've chosen not to let anything bother you - it's that you've gotten lucky enough not to encounter the things you cannot help but be bothered by.
-
That, Sir, is absolute and utter crap. I've been hearing bullshit like that all my life (while dealing with depression and social anxiety) - and it's just not true. at all. Not everyone is a hyper-stoic emotionless rock able to choose to be unaffected by the negative things others say or do.
-
Sadly: anyone who needs to hear your message, is unlikely to bother listening. Conversely, anyone who would listen to you, already knows (and has taken to heart) what you are saying. Human nature is a cast iron bitch. 😞

One asshole, does not an entire community make. OTOH, as an acquaintance of mine once quipped, "all it takes is one turd floating in the punch bowl, and suddenly no-one is thirsty." I'm sorry you ran into one of the turds. The punch is normally quite delicious.

Make Rest automatic while out of combat
PaxArcana replied to Galaxy Brain's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
My experience is, that [Rest] is most often used after being defeated, and using an inspiration to self-rez, yes. Not only then, but most often. (Another common use back on live? MMs would often have to "take a knee" after doing their whole summon-and-upgrade "dance", because of how END-intensive it was. The new once-and-done for each upgrade power, what with their being AoE, is absolutely awesome ... and eliminate going END-0 at the door of every mission. -
Make Rest automatic while out of combat
PaxArcana replied to Galaxy Brain's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Or high Resistance. Or high Defense. Or even just high IN-combat regeneration and recovery. -
For a mastermind, when there's a couple spawns too close together to fight separately just by ordering their pets to attack, TP-Foe can be used to very carefully aggro only ONE of those spawns - and, indeed, can also be used to make a tough SINGLE spawn more manageable, by pulling in, and defeating or seriously weakening, one of it's mobs before the others can reach their own attack range.
