Psionic Melee / Bio Armor build critique requested
Nightmarer replied to IneptAdept's topic in Scrapper
I have been fiddling a bit with a build for a Dark Melee/Bio. Tried to adapt it to Psi and came up with this. Probably not the best build but hopefully can give you some ideas. I have sacrificed perma hasten (12 seconds gap) for being softcapped to nrg/neg/fire/cold, resistance capped to S/L and decent Toxic resistance also. You can go the S/L softcapping instead by investing in unique and At specific IOs though I tried to keep it on the cheaper side: Hero Plan by Mids' Hero Designer 1.962 http://www.cohplanner.com/ Click this DataLink to open the build! Eagle-Eye does not activate Ranged Shot (Sniper) instant-casting

Aha, you're right, it's a bug not showing the yellow circle around the power, it works as intended so, it's not just you. -
Eagle-Eye does not activate Ranged Shot (Sniper) instant-casting
Nightmarer replied to Omega9's topic in Blaster
Tactics alone will not unlock fast-snipe. First you need to overslot Tactics (you need 90% enhancement before applying ED effects) which will get you to 16% To Hit and then you need to add a Kistmet IO for an extra 6% To Hit in order to hit the 22% threshold. So yeah, Targeting Drone is much easier. Getting 16.46% To Hit from tactics and 6% from the Kismet so I am at 22.46% to hit according to game and still no insta-snipe on an Arch/TA Blaster :( -
OK this is my definitive build, I've tweaked it to squeeze the most To Hit possible from Tactics so as per Mid's now I have 22.5% To Hit and as per game info 22.46%, still, no insta-snipe so I guess the info about 22% to hit was wrong or Zeleski fucked up another thing besides everything else he already fucked up. You could improve your overall recharge and make Hasten perma if, instead of the Kinetic Combat sets you use Crushing Impact sets and go for agility Core Paragon in Alpha slot at the expense of lowering your dmg res and to be softcapped to S/L def you will need 3 enemies in your invincibility range instead of just 1. You will also save a shitload of inf though because Kinetic Combat is damned expensive set: Villain Plan by Mids' Villain Designer 1.962 http://www.cohplanner.com/ Click this DataLink to open the build! Ok, this is how I'd do the build ideally. No end issues whatsoever, S/L Def softcapped with a margin to help on an occasional def debuff, almost at S/L res cap with Cardiac Alpha, awesome 2091 HP once fully accoladed, decent dmg res to other kinds of dmg except the usual toxic and psi (and even good res against fire/cold) plus only 10 secs downtime on Hasten. This is not a cheap build but you can save a few million using one Smashing Haymaker set instead of one of the kinetic combats, either the one in Shin Breaker or the one in Crushing Uppercut. Well, invuln benefits a lot from the +S/L dmg res enhancements and bonuses since you can cap your S/L res (and pump up most others) without having to take Fighting Pool, that will free 3 power choices for you. Of course, Invuln also benefits from +def enhancements and bonuses and you can choose betwen softcapping to S/L dmg or if you are already res capped to S/L dmg, you could softcap to exotic dmg (nrg/neg/fire/cold) for a more complete build. +Recharge and +HP are also very desirable, especially +rchg to get minimum downtime or even perma Dull Pain. These are the priorities I take on an Invuln char. You can also rely on Alpha slot to round them up since you can choose between +res, +rchg and even a +def/+rchg one to complement your set IO bonuses.

Although many players expect and even demand (and that's something that should be addressed somehow) Brutes to tank, a Brute is a perfectly fine damage dealer. I'd say it depends at the pace you play, Brutes usually play at a much faster pace plowing from group to group to keep their Fury bar up, while Scrappers can (if so they wish) take a different pace without having to build up their dmg again.
-
Actually, I think they did, if I am not mistaken, MA was ported to Brutes together with Katana and BS while Mace and Axe were ported to Scrappers, could be wrong though, I'm getting more handsome as time goes by but not younger I'm afraid

Practically Free Build: Softcapped DM/SR w/ no sets
Nightmarer replied to jack_nomind's topic in Scrapper
That is great becauce, although I am trying to bring friends to the game, sometimes I am overwhelmed trying to explain everything and even worse, translating stuff into Spanish so threads and iniciatives like this one are really helpful because they're providing a basic build without sets to help understand but also the chance to slowly introduce the concept of sets prioritizing, in this case +def, in others could be KB Prot or +HP or anything totally different. I wish there was a section on all AT's dedicated to basic builds the way you did here. -
Psionic Melee / Bio Armor build critique requested
Nightmarer replied to IneptAdept's topic in Scrapper
Dammit, now you tell me this is not Sparta... meh *shakes compass* -
Indeed, pretty much any aoe immob destroys the effect of powers such as Earthquake or Ice slick / Ice patch and most trigger happy players don't know and don't care about that. Basically, while your enemies are busy falling over and over on their behinds, they won't be shooting at you but if they get immobilized (by you or a teammate) that KD effect ceases and they start shooting everyone. AoE immobs have caused more team wipes than crazy blasters, and that's a lot to say. Can't comment, never used this power in any earth control char so I'd say you did the right thing The problem with Fire is that it doesn't offer any additional dmg mitigation so you need all your heavy hitting attacks, melee or not, to get rid of your enemies before they get rid of you. Having said that, Earth is by far the control set that has the most hard control tools so you should be able to mitigate enough dmg to plow through your enemies, earthquake, volcanic gasses AND stalagmites should keep you covered on that front but, if you still feel you need further dmg mitigation, then Fire Mastery is not the epic pool you should be aiming at. I personally think it does not bring anything to the table that you don't pretty much have already so my personal choices would be, on one side Mace Mastery, where you get a good amount of S/L def with Scorpion Shield plus you also get a KB Cone that you can turn into KD with an IO enhancement (can't remember its name) and then personal force field which does wonders when the brown stuff hits the proverbial fan. The other choice would be ice mastery, you also get good s/l def on Forzen Armor which can also be slotted for dmgres sets tehrefore you can allocate +3% def enhancements and improve your mitigation by def, it has a self heal and hibernate which is another good panic button although not as good as PFF plus you also have a good rchg and movement debuffer with ice storm. Hope this helps.

I appreciate that and thought so much, if I sound blunt, which unfortunately happens, it's because English is not my native language and getting into specifics is usually really ahrd to translate the idea in mind accurately. -
Practically Free Build: Softcapped DM/SR w/ no sets
Nightmarer replied to jack_nomind's topic in Scrapper
Basically it's underslotted for recharge and it's not up as often as needed, so the longer you delay the dmg boost the more time you keep fighting and burning endurance. Usually toggles are not what eat endurance but in theis case, tehre are a lot of toggles and little endrdx, the end consumption is on par with an unmitigated DA build. Meh, I keep editing typos and getting new thoughts and editing more and... lack of sleep is an annoying thing. -
Then my advice would be to take the pools I mentioned to complement the powerset combos. From WP I'd prolly skip just the rez and from Savage Melee I'd skip Confront and maybe I'd get rid of Savage Strike later on in the build but i'd keep it at low lvls to fill the ST attack chain and then decide.

Practically Free Build: Softcapped DM/SR w/ no sets
Nightmarer replied to jack_nomind's topic in Scrapper
You're mistaken. My build includes Tough and is calculated with it active, even though it has only 16% S/L resist. Defense and Resistance are multiplicative in terms of survivability, and that little bit does help more than it would seem -- but that's not why I have it. Three powers in SR have scaling damage resistance. With all three, SR gets about 1.5% damage resistance to all for every 1% of health it falls below 50%. So just before death, an SR scrapper is at the resist cap for all damage types. Of course they have so little health left that it almost doesn't matter; the goal is to move that bar closer to a meaningful health total. With 15% S/L resist, the S/L cap is reached at 10% remaining health instead... enough to be realistically meaningful. At that point the SR scrapper is more survivable than almost any other Scrapper secondary in the game. No I'm not, I know about the scaling resistance and I also know that the 16% on Tough never made any difference. If you think it did for you, fair enough, it probbaly did, in my experience, that 16% S/L resistance never meant any difference between faceplanting or not, its contribution is pretty much unnoticeable when speaking of S/L dmg combined with exotic dmg such as Fire/Lethal or Energy/Smashing while, on pure lethal dmg there is always a -def debuff associated, despite SR 90% resistance to def debuff, a series of hits that take your health below 50% have for sure dented def noticeably below softcap so more and more hits are meant to land so the 16% percent can give you a couple of seconds tops, what kept the health bar higher was Siphon Life and if said couple fo seconds are the difference between Siphon Life being recharged or not, it's a marginal contribution. Maybe it's slightly better noticeable in pure smashing dmg, still, I wouldn't call Tough a sound investment. Regarding the Scrapper challenge, I guess I missed what you meant by that since your original post said nothing about a scrapper challenge and I thought you just wanted a set free build for newbies but what I have seen is an almost unplayable and seriously gimped build with Soul Drain totally underslotted. -
Practically Free Build: Softcapped DM/SR w/ no sets
Nightmarer replied to jack_nomind's topic in Scrapper
My first char was a DM/SR way before Invention and my build was pretty similar to this one except I never used Tough because the 19% res S/L I found out did nothing for me. I understand what you are trying to do but, without going mad with sets and all that, just 1 enhancement that costs the meager sum of 20 merits makes the build playable (Steadfast +3%def) which I don't think it is bad for beginners. Don't get me wrong, I know there's a thin line here where we can start "if you put only 2", then 3, then just 1 set... in this case, I think the gain of playability in the form of endurance management is well worth using 1 and only 1 set IO which anyone can have just by completing pretty much any TF or a couple story arcs. The enhancements I gained I redistributed to my taste but obviously there is a lot of room for different combinations. As the two last powers I selected Touch of Fear to contribute with even more To Hit Debuff and hover because of its usefulness against Caltrops and when speed boosted in uncomfortable maps. In this case, I am not using Tough because I never found it useful enough to justify the endurance consumption but that's up to the final user to wiggle slots accordingly to enable Tough or not: Hero Plan by Mids' Hero Designer 1.962 http://www.cohplanner.com/ Click this DataLink to open the build! This, very much this. ;D To the OP, for what is worth, I teamed today with an Ice/Ice Brute and trust me, he was totally OP, he tore through all kinds of mobs and AVs on a Maria Jenkins arc tanking and kill..erm *arresting* at same time (he was a dmg dealer but Chilling Embrace and icey cools do wonders with aggro).

What are you aiming for exactly? Let me know and I'll try to help. Also, don't worry about trying stuff, we get a free respec every 10 lvls so if you selected soemthing wrong, changing is not a big deal plus part of the fun is trying different things and see how it goes (and I would say more so on a Brute) plus, I think it's really hard to screw up a WP char tbh, just make sure you get from pools Tough and Weave from Fighting Pool (boxing or kick for pool access) , Hasten from Speed Pool and Combat Jumping from Leaping Pool (the travel power is entirely up to you) and on Epic Pool, Energy is always helpful and thematically, Pyre could probably fit also. Heck I am almost tempted to tell you to experiment with Presence Pool and go Soul mastery Epic, that could go extremely well or extremely wrong, no idea but it would be fun trying.

Regarding Staff, it's perfectly capable to kill bosses and lieutenants since it's got good ST. As per secondary, I am partial to Invuln probably because I had a concept in mind but Bio, Elec and of course WP would work too, Elec has good rounded res and +rchg, Bio would pump up your dmg in Offensive Adaptation (although you'd be a tad squishy unless IO'd) and WP goes well with everything so no surprises there. Regarding Fire/DA vs. DM/Fire, I had one of each and I'd say DM/Fire beats hands up. Both mine were pumped up with IO's and both softcapped to S/L def but man, standing in the middle of a group and do fiery embrace+soul drain+burn made me giggle like a toddler every single time. Don't get me wrong, Fire/DA made an awesome Brute but what can I say, DM/Fire felt otherworldly. If you are undecided, you could maybe try making one in Scrapper and one in Brute.

I honestly don't think you need Focused Accuracy. For sure you don't need neither the KB prot IO nor the KB prot from the PvP set. Practiced Brawler will keep you very well protected against all sorts of mez, especially because with high recharge it doubles its effect, in fact, it should be your mandatory lvl 10 power choice. Although I know how useful dmg res is, having myself played SR (DM/SR was my first char) with zero resistances makes me think that pumping up resistances should be a secondary goal but in any case, if you want to improve your resistances, then I think Cardiac Core Paragon is the right one for your Alpha slot, rounding up your resistances (not much though) and especially helping managing your end.

Psionic Melee / Bio Armor build critique requested
Nightmarer replied to IneptAdept's topic in Scrapper
At a first glance it looks a tad squishy to me, defense is not hiagh and neither are resistances. I don't understand why investing in such an expensive set as Kinetic Combat if you are not going to softcap S/L def but then I wouldn't understand why to softcap S/L when the set favours exotic dmg def. Personally I would try to maximize exotic dmg def and S/L res, especially with a primary that offers little to none active dmg mitigation. This build could work with a primary such as Ice, Mace/Axe or DM but I think it makes a squishy scrapper and set choices are a bit off.
