Obviously my statement requires some assumptions like probably IO’s, definitely modest inspiration use, AV’s not guaranteed to be included, and probably some warning labels on carnies or whatever. Now y’all calm down. My mindset may be “terrible”, but at least it allows me to enjoy a powerset regardless of its meta status.

Every powerset combo in this game can solo +4x8, just to clarify

Although this is absolutely the case for a few powergamers, it makes me want to bang my head against a wall. There are 9 powersets in this game I do not have maxed out at level 50. 4 MM primaries and 5 Dom secondaries. The only reason I don’t have those is because I decided to stop at 100 50’s for now (100 reflects badly enough on the state of my RL, IMO, don’t you think?). There are a couple of duds out. But there’s just nothing wrong with the vast majority of those powersets unless you are positively obsessive-compulsive about timing every mission you do. Well, or PvP. That’s an exception. IMO anyone that limits themselves to a few powersets is limited far more by their own thinking than by slight inequalities in the game.

I wasn’t asking about exploits with those questions. I was trying to demonstrate that there is precedent for things being nerfed just because they are overpowered - not because they harm other players - and you clearly agree with me, so good to know. I know this point is obvious but our friend was saying nerfs should never be for victimless crimes. My point was that that has never been the case in the history of CoH.

I always thought the delay was there to ensure you couldn’t just duck behind something and use it in combat with too much ease. I don’t think inherents need to be any better.

Hey, all I said is that I have no ill intent towards my fellow city players. I never claimed that I don’t live behind a 30 foot wall of biting sarcasm and more frustrations with the world than you can shake a stick at.

The “don’t brag about achieving something with cheat codes” argument and whatever devs decide to do or not do with this issue are completely separate issues in my mind, so no point trying to connect the two when they are irrelevant to each other to the guy you’re forum pvp’ing. Completely off-topic, just something I found funny when I found all the insp-chainers massaging their egos this morning for their adept execution of a cheap trick. As for “no victim, no problem”, again, that’s fine that that’s your stance, but it’s obvious to me that it isn’t shared by the devs because of the abundance of historical nerfs of victimless but overpowering exploits we already know about. To me, it seems self-evident that there’s actually more precedent throughout this game’s history for balancing things because they are overpowered than because they negatively impact others. That’s just based on my perhaps-shoddy memory of some historical facts, but oh well. Who was the victim of wolves? The dreck map? Every iteration of Burn ever? The snake egg farm? With some research time I could add a hundred more question marks, I’m sure. Do you see what I’m saying? Is it understandable yet that someone could look at how MMO’s are historically designed and think “oh, nerfs happen when things are overpowered” and do so logically instead of with karenesque malice? I know you disagree with that stance, but do you understand how it might be reasonable to some of your fellow humans without any ill intent whatsoever?

Of course it’s an exploit and of course anyone can do it. You’re still trying to garner credit and acknowledgment and bragging rights for playing a game with invincible god mode on, and no amount of email button clicking will make THAT not cringy. To be extremely clear, it is NOT effortless to do this. But you could certainty argue it’s *relatively* effortless when juxtaposed with, oh I don’t know, actually playing the game without having exploit-induced capped stats 24/7.

I’m taking a small beating on set bonuses (only 60% in recharge bonuses, zero non-proc defenses bonuses) between 23 specials, umm.. let me think... 21 damage procs and 4 -res procs... and ofc all the good def/res/heal/travel etc procs. So yeah. Endurance costs are wonderful tho. SS/CJ, epic shield, fighting toggles, and all three leadership toggles collectively costing only ~1.2 end/s from what I recall.

I just want to say I have upped the insanity and I have one character now with 23 whopping special enhancements. That one is now 15 HO’s, 8 D-Syncs. Boosting them to 53 is bankrupting tho 😕

Only way I can see a full pack of ghosts being ok is if they are made individually very weak with very low uptime, like Gang War. But Gang War is pretty OP so sure, maybe look into that.

Using exploits doesn’t need to have a victim or a cash reward to constitute using exploits. In this case, it’s clear the reward is something more like bragging rights. Which is fine. Why you would brag about how much skill it takes to use exploits is beyond me, though, and that’s all I said in the post you quoted. Is my actually-killable character really supposed to be impressed at your invincible mode character’s email button clicking? You want acknowledgment for additional menu management even though said additional task mitigates all other risk in the game? Lol no. Do it all you want until the unlikely-to-ever-happen fix comes in, but bragging about it? Yes, I stand by my statement that that’s hilarious to me.

Why stop there? If “don’t like it don’t do it” is as meaningful an argument as some here claim, why can’t I have a slash command that awards my character 2 billion influence and all accolades? Oh yeah some transcendant merits too pls. Devs can we get on this?

Finding all the references to how much work it is to chain insps pretty funny. Just because the GameShark required some extra steps didn’t mean they weren’t cheat codes 😉 Who are you trying to convince anyway?

Oh. My mistake. MLTF can’t be done without using exploits seems like the consensus then. LRSF? Voltak can do it right?

But there are tons of clear examples in CoH and MMO history where overpoweredness was the sole justification for removing exploits. Skimming over the more obvious ones, I’m also remembering that insane snake egg farm a friend once demanded I keep a secret. You know, to say nothing over countless other “nerfs”. (I put that in quotes because I’m starting to dislike the word. Puts an unhelpful stigma on necessary game design strategies).

Not sure where this idea comes from that something being overpowered isn’t problematic unless another player is harmed. That’s just another shade of the “Don’t like it? Opt out” talking point that is completely detached from how video games are designed. Balance is pursued in game design because it’s a component of good game design. Not because someone on your team might have hurt feelings.

The fact that the alleged exploit in 3. breaks an explicit cap on the amount of hugies you can bring to an activity. For 1. to compare to 3., you would basically need an exploit that functionally allows a 9th player (or maybe 32 more players) to enter your team’s task force mission and help you. IOW It’s not about your huge inspirations. Those are indeed comparable to legal teammates numbers 2 through 8. It’s the bypass of the number 20 (or on my hypothetical analogy the bypass of the number 8).

While I think my vision of game design is almost identical to the HC devs and that it is logically a good one, I am open to the possibility that I am acting out something antagonistic in the process. Fun fact: I keep my forum name and my game name different because frankly the names are associated with such wildly different personalities that there’s something schizophrenic about it. 95% of my forum posts are made while on the clock. A little less than 95% of my in-game time, on the other hand, is spent under the influence of something. The attitudes that follow are a smidge different. I’m not sure that’s relevant, except that you might think I’m less of a douchecanoe if you played with me. Or more of one, that’s possible.

That’s not how video games work. “Opt out if you don’t like it” is a completely nonsensical design philosophy. Do I really need to list a dozen obviously broken things and then sarcastically state “don’t be a part of it if you don’t like it” to demonstrate how illogical that is, or can we admit that game developers actually pursue balance for real reasons.
