    1. Have each category actually be a link to a post in the topic (with a link at the end to return you to the table of contents/categories). @Easter Bunny did this when asked to tidy up the pins in the base editing topic. Now all the pins that are there for building help and information are now condensed into one post, and each topic links to a post containing that information.

This is the ideal solution but it's much, much harder for the team to maintain as we move from build to build. I wish we could create anchor links inside posts, but sadly the forum doesn't support it 😞

Back on live, you were automatically introduced to the invention system tutorial for your alignment when you trained to... Level 10?  Something like that.  The automatic introduction was removed by SCoRE.  IMO, it should be added back.

So we did a little digging.

Turns out it never got removed. The problem is that this pop-up won't show up if you don't "own" the Paragon Market purchase to unlock the Invention system. Obviously nobody owns that product anymore, and the Invention system works without it. The pop-up, however, does not.

We'll fix that, and also update it to actually give you the contact (previously the pop-up only told you where to go, it didn't actually give you the contact!).

There's also a Praetorian Invention tutorial which has the same gating problem. Who knew 😄

Was this also changed recently?  As I recall, going to the university during The Shining Stars/Hearts of Darkness missions does not start the invention tutorial because they have other dialogue for those missions.

You have to talk to them again after the mission to get it.

I think so. It may require you to talk to the same person twice though.

My partner has recently been playing through the early-game content for the first time (he's barely played the game in the past), and I've been observing. Twinshot directed him to someone in Steel who then triggered the Invention tutorial. I think it's this step. After that we ended up on the Invention tutorial before going back to Twinshot's shocking plot twist. I can't recall the exact series of actions though.

Either way, it's buried pretty deep into Twinshot's arc, and could definitely be more discoverable.

Is there anything planned to give the new players a invitation towards the University and their Invention System ?

There should be something like this window-popup around level 22 to guide them there or at least mention there's such a tutorial available. It's weird you only get this contact by directly speaking to the respective NPC's.

Twinshot's arc does actually trigger the Invention tutorial, but we probably could do with exposing it a bit better.

  5. The base items aren't meant to be hidden away, it's more just a case of us condensing extraneous, unsurprising detail (it's why all the detailed Epic changes are hidden by default, as they are all summarised in the various paragraphs above the hidden block).

I do agree that these notes aren't the easiest thing to navigate. It's just too long and there isn't really a good solution 😄

Future updates will hopefully be smaller and easier to process (and come more frequently!).

Matthew Habashy's whole arc is a direct followup to the Galaxy City storyline. His dialogue when you first talk to him clearly assumes that you just did that tutorial and makes no attempt to explain what is going on to people who skipped it or did Outbreak instead. Sending brand new players there after explicitly discouraging them from playing the Galaxy tutorial is just going to be confusing. The old City Hall contacts aren't that bad, and the game will (for better or worse) direct you to Twinshot when you get to level 5 anyway.

You're not wrong - but a little bit of narrative incongruity is much better than than the player not understanding the basics of the game. The sad reality is that the Galaxy City tutorial just isn't a very good tutorial. Annoyingly, the Praetorian tutorial is actually the most effective one - but you're then in Praetoria, which is way too hard for a brand new player.

My hope is that we can do some improvements to all the tutorials in i28, but in this patch we're specifically focusing on low hanging fruit.

That being said, I think the new system is inferior to the old.  Players have to travel outside of Atlas to get destinations to TP to, so there's no particular reason to have to travel outside of Atlas to earn it.  But on the flip side, yeah, we need to introduce players to the idea that there's more to city than Atlas...

This is sort of the point. If you are in Atlas and only have badges from Atlas, where are you teleporting to? 🙂

The goal is for players to learns the basics of standard zone travel (via trams, ferries, and tunnels - both physical and magical) before gaining quick travel, so they know how to actually get to new zones to add to LRT.

For the origin attacks, would it be possible to let them carry enhancement sets? They're never gonna be competitive at a high level because they're not supposed to be, but it could still have niche uses for muling set bonuses or slotting accuracy at low levels.

They actually already have 20% bonus accuracy. I was considering boosting it up to 35% (just above a single SO) and may still do that.

We won't be making them slottable though, as they are solely there to fill the attack chain gap early game.

  9. Hello! I have a request.

Currently, Peacebringers and Warshades (hello @Laucianna 👀) show ? for all stats during character creation, like so:

    image.png

While this does have some mild thematic significance, it's rather unhelpful for new players. In the next build we'll be adding numbers here for Kheldians, and also potentially updating some other ATs if we think the numbers aren't quite right (for example, Arachnos Soldiers have a pets rating of 2, which is clearly inaccurate).

These are the proposed numbers for Peacebringers and Warshades:

    image.png

    image.png

Please do let me know what you think. We're definitely open for input on the Kheldian numbers, and for any other ATs that could do with having their numbers tweaked.

Keep in mind that the goal here is to better communicate the strengths and weaknesses of each AT to inexperienced players, rather than be a raw reflection of the actual balance of each AT.

It's always about making cash until you get to Grandville

For me, this is actually one of the major turn offs for redside. Most of the early to mid content isn't actually... evil? The motivations are always a bit bland. You don't really feel like a true villain, and you are rarely fighting actual heroes.

I know "being a bad guy" isn't appealing to everyone - but even it does appeal to you, CoV's early content never really delivered on that fantasy very well.

Is there much point in applying to the Dev team? I did this years ago and not a single word or reply as to what is going on with the application and so on. Nada. I actually reached out to a few Devs about ideas etc. I organize large teams in my real life and helping HC enticed me. Not sure if it was just me or everyone that didn't make the cut got ignored (if anyone did make the cut, that is).

Regardless, I appreciate the HC team and all they do. This is big and great news. Hopefully adding the Paragon and Victory Devs to the team may result in some more content and some new ideas.

Yes, it's definitely worth applying. Last time around we weren't able to follow through with recruitment due to legal uncertainties. That's no longer a problem, obviously 🙂

We are however receiving a lot of applications, so it might take a little while to get back to you! We were also considering reaching out to some of the old applicants, but we're not sure if we will have the bandwidth to do that soon due to the volume of new applicants, so definitely reapply if you're interested!

Great news all around! If Victory is coming as it's own shard what of Paragon?

Paragon's existing character database will be copied (for all players who consent to their data being transferred) to Vanguard, our new perpetual closed beta environment, and then those players can also play on any of the live shards as well. We will be setting up a simple process for anyone to be able to apply to join the closed beta programme, although there is already quite a large crossover between the Homecoming and Paragon communities.

Is "Victory becomes a new, separate shard" different from "All the Victory players are switching to HC, and we are creating a new, separate shard named Victory for them to start on"? I assume there is a difference, otherwise the HC folks wouldn't have gone to the effort of making a separate shard. I just can't figure out what the difference might be.

From what I have heard, Victory has been getting the same updates as HC, so in terms of gameplay there will be no difference between New Victory and all the current 5 HC servers - right? If that is the case, and if HC players are allowed to play on the New Victory shard and vice versa, then for all practical purposes New Victory is simply a 6th shard identical to the 5 current ones.

    What am I overlooking here?

Nearly there. Victory will be appearing as 6th live shard (alongside Excelsior, Everlasting, etc). All Victory players who consent to their data being transferred will have their characters, supergroups, bases, etc copied into new Victory. Then anyone else who wants to play on Victory will also be able to join them!
