  1. I think you are fundamentally missing the point of that we’re trying to do. As we explained, we aren’t trying to permanently balance the population between shards. We just temporarily want people off Excelsior. Players are not restricted to one shard. Nobody is excluded by this. Excelsior facing continual instability would’ve been a far worse problem than a tiny, tiny fraction of players being upset that they aren’t getting the XP boost because they don’t want to help the community by facing a minor inconvenience and playing on another shard for a while. Thankfully, there are enough community-minded players who have made the jump and Excelsior has remained fairly stable outside of a few hiccups.
  2. I think you’re misunderstanding. You can utilise Patrol XP after a server transfer. You can’t utilise an XP boost. We are fully aware that players are likely to move back after the boosts end. We need players to choose to not play on Excelsior during this busy period. Some players will be selfless enough to do that, even though they may prefer Excelsior. The boosts are a simple way of rewarding that choice. You can still choose to play on Excelsior if you aren’t interested in helping solve this problem. But we aren’t going to reward that choice. Again, we know this method works, because we can actually see the data.
  3. This has been my experience too. I generally play on Excelsior, but have mostly been on other shards since the announcement. You're right that there's not always a whole lot going on in LFG, but it's really easy to recruit people if you start something yourself 🙂
  4. Yep: The same reason why Excelsior has no XP boost. It's targeted at both new and old players. Patrol XP wouldn't work because you can simply transfer after gaining it. This method works. We can see the stats. See also my post on page 2:
  5. Update - January 16th, 2024 Everlasting & Torchbearer are now have +50% XP. Reunion and Indomitable will remain at +100% XP. Additionally, Rikti Invasions are now live on all shards and will continue until maintenance next week (January 23rd). Enjoy!
  6. Upon further investigation, your accounts were banned for being involved in RMT (real money trading). They will not be unbanned.
  7. Check out the link in my signature if you're interested in helping out 🙂
  8. We aren't considering any form of in-game rewards for donations.
  9. Sorry you experienced this, it's definitely not the environment we seek to foster here. I'll echo what @Clave Dark 5 said, it's critical that you report these things when you see them. We aren't able to proactively monitor everything all the time, so the GM team does rely on player reports to help make us aware of any issues 🙂 Even if you don't have all the information, the GM team can investigate and put a stop to it if necessary.
  10. This was getting a bit personal. I've had to hide some posts. I think we'll all be better off if we stop trying to explain to each-other how software licensing and privacy laws work 🙂
  11. The invasions aren't exactly meant to be a celebration. They (and the 2xp) are meant to be an incentive to play on Indom, Reunion and Torchbearer 🙂 And it's working - down to 37.5% on Excelsior now!
  12. Is this what Americans think of Europe 👽
  13. This isn't really about trying to make the quiet servers not-quiet, it's about saving Excelsior from itself 🙂 Excelsior frequently (possibly always, can't say for sure) had more players online than all the other shards combined. This was just about manageable before the license announcement, but we still had occasional hiccups as mentioned in this thread. Obviously we've had quite a bump in activity due to the announcement, and Excelsior was really struggling on Thursday and Friday evening. Everlasting wasn't included as it's already in a very healthy spot population wise, we didn't want it to suddenly have the same issues that Excelsior is having. And it's working. Last night Excelsior was around 40% of total population, and right now it's hovering around 45%: Much better compared to Excelsior being nearly 60% of our total online players on Thursday! While overall our infrastructure can easily handle this number of players (and many, many more), each individual shard can only support so many players before things start to hit a bottleneck. Something to keep in mind is that Excelsior is quite busy compared to most shards from the retail version of the game as free server transfers have resulted in so many players coalescing there. On live, players were generally stuck to the shards they started on - and there were 16 shards in total at that point. Now we have 5.
  14. We will not be monetizing the game. The team is staffed entirely by unpaid volunteers.
  15. Here's some answers to a few questions that got missed. Everything in the thread has been read, but as we mentioned in the announcement, we can't answer every question that gets asked. Download the Homecoming Launcher. The Getting Started page should get you sorted. We're not considering any changes to the funding model. We understand it can sometimes be frustrating if you miss the window, but I would try to look on the bright side and appreciate that it means the community is thriving 🙂 We couldn't agree on how to best nerf Regen. I believe this might be the first time a sunsetted game has been officially brought back by community group, but I could be wrong. Project 1999 is probably the closest example, but the original game (Everquest) is still running. Primarily administrative and security related costs, just keeping us above board really. Very boring in reality, and the amounts we're talking are quite minimal and probably wouldn't have even been noticed had we not called them out here (despite the fact we detail all non-security related expenses in the monthly financial breakdowns). There's won't really be any noticeable changes which aren't called out in the FAQ. All of our policy and administrative decisions over the past 4.5 years were made for a reason 🙂 To clarify, this is one-time thing to build up a contingency / disaster recovery fund. There will only be minor changes to our ongoing expenses. There shouldn't be any changes to make anything less transparent. If anything, you may notice us start being a bit more open - where possible, of course. The transparency here for example likely won't change much. I would say our management structure has worked pretty well thus far (*gestures to the top of this thread*), all things considered. We are open and transparent when it makes sense to do so. We wanted to make room on the nav bar for the "Getting Started" page, and the Server Status link was an unfortunate casualty. RIP. As others have pointed out, you can find it under "Browse" or by going to https://forums.homecomingservers.com/status/ Watch it, pineapple lover. Acceptable.
  16. Please don't be rude to anyone - that includes both players and staff. This thread is a little off the rails and will probably go bye bye if we can't act like grown ups 🙂 As for the topic at hand, everything in my reply to this thread still holds true:
  17. Just so you know, I'm keeping a list.
  18. I must admit, seeing this post yesterday morning and knowing what was about to happen was highly amusing 😄
