I wonder if the game staff actually plays
Jimmy replied to Honey Pie 143's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Well, this is a rollercoaster of confusion. I don't think I understand most of what you're asking, but yes, we do play the game 🙂 -
Keep it civil please 🙂 Someone else violating the Code of Conduct is not an acceptable reason to be rude to them. Just report and move on.

We're One Year Old! It’s April 24th - exactly one year since Torchbearer, the first Homecoming shard, came online for the very first time - and conveniently, also only a few days shy of the 16th anniversary of City of Heroes’ retail launch. Looking back, those first few weeks were both immensely exciting and extremely chaotic for our community. It’s been a very long year for all of us, and we’ve come a long way - 5 shards, nearly 170 thousand accounts, over 1.3 million characters created and 5 major updates - with more to come! None of this would’ve been possible without the incredible support of our GM team, so we would also like to take this opportunity to extend a special thank you to all of our Game Master volunteers - both past and present - for your time and dedication over the past year. We wouldn’t be able to do this without you. And now… some festivities! 16th Anniversary Badge: Resurgent Following the vote earlier this month, Resurgent has been chosen as the name for the anniversary badge this year. Any character that logs in during the month of May will automatically receive this badge. Resurgent During the month of May all previous anniversary badges are also available to purchase from Luna in Ouroboros for 100 Reward Merits each. Invasion! Starting… now, Rikti invasions will be taking place all over Paragon City and the Rogue Isles. They’ll be here for two and a half weeks - until server maintenance finally defeats them once and for all on Tuesday the 12th of May. Anniversary Contests @GM Miss is hosting two contests to help celebrate the anniversary! Anniversary Screenshot Contest: Starting today and running until May 1st, we’re asking you to submit your favourite screenshot from the past year. Anniversary Costume Contest: On May 2nd we’ll be hosting an anniversary costume contest! Many prizes will be up for grabs, including permanent costume powers. And that’s all for today. Thank you for joining us on this amazing journey - this is only the beginning. - The Homecoming Team

Discussion: Disabling XP No Longer Increases Influence
Jimmy replied to Jimmy's topic in General Discussion
We've no intention of touching power levelling directly, but we are intending to make other ways of levelling up more appealing (see the upcoming changes to low level enhancements as an example). AFK farming on the other hand probably will get looked at eventually, but we'll need to be very careful about how we fix in order to ensure there's little-to-no impact on anything that isn't AFK farming. Right now the wider economic impact mirrors that of normal farming (ie: it introduces tons of goods and influence) so there's no immediate economy-related concern, but... This, pretty much.- 1954 replies

We do have a somewhat automated system, but it just executes various actions for automatically for GMs so they doesn't need to be completed manually. No action is ever taken without a human* GM instigating it. If any action is taken on your account the automated system will send you a global tell informing you of what's happened. It will also automatically open a support ticket with the full details - you can then respond to the ticket if you want, and it'll then be added into the support queue for us to review and respond to. *we cannot guarantee that all GMs are completely human
-
We never generic solely based on reports. We always verify by checking the actual character before taking any action (and we have tools to easily do this without needing to be in-game).

I think you’ve misunderstood the relationship that cats have with fleas.

While the rule itself has been discussed at length already, there is one point I wanted to provide some clarity on: While this is in theory a good idea and in an ideal world I would support it, unfortunately it's simply not practical right now. All of our GMs are volunteers, and dealing with copyright issues is only one of many responsibilities that they have. This would at least double the amount of time it takes to deal with each individual incident, and that's time that would be taken away from helping players with other issues, such as stuck missions.

@FnaX Absolutely not. We'll have a look at the logs here and take any necessary action. In the future please report any behaviour like that and we'll deal with it.

Homecoming Server Update (April 5th): Nemesis Plots, Contests and Progression

I made a mistake with the date and we didn't realise until today! The 15th is most certainly not a Tuesday, so we're leaving it active until tomorrow, Wednesday the 15th 🙂 -

If your arc is chosen you'll receive 1,000 merits and eternal fame*. *fame not guaranteed, may be substituted for mild recognition Progression Improvements - Enhancements Over the next few patches we’re going to begin testing and implementing some experimental improvements to progression in the game, primarily aimed at improving the play experience at lower levels. A disclaimer before we continue: All of these experiments will be subject to changes and revisions. Some may be overhauled entirely (even after release), and some not make the cut and will never leave the beta servers. With that out of the way, we’d like to present the first set of experiments, all aimed at improving the gameplay surrounding Enhancements. First up is a new feature to streamline Enhancement upgrades: This feature allows you to easily upgrade any TO, DO and SO Enhancements slotted into your powers without needing to visit a vendor. The game will simply calculate the influence cost of upgrading all of your Enhancements to the maximum you can currently slot (3 above your current level, capping at level 50), and then ask you to confirm. In addition, we’re making SOs available from stores beginning at level 5, and the Outbreak / Breakout tutorials will now give new characters damage SOs instead of TOs. Mission completion at any level now has a chance of dropping a random Power 10 SO and arc completion guarantees a random Power 10 SO that matches your origin. Yin’s market has also received an update and now sells special enhancements usable by any origin, which are also much cheaper than enhancements found at other stores. These improvements are aimed at tackling Enhancements just not being that useful in the lower levels due to how quickly they expire. The goal is to allow you to begin (and continue using) standard enhancements as you level a character, only swapping over to IOs when you want to - rather than feeling forced to do so in order to avoid Enhancements expiring every few levels. Check out the Beta FAQ for information on accessing the beta servers. Participating on the beta servers is one of the most impactful ways to help us - we rely heavily on your testing and feedback to keep development trucking along smoothly. That’s all for today! - The Homecoming Team

Discussion: Disabling XP No Longer Increases Influence
Jimmy replied to Jimmy's topic in General Discussion
Something to keep in mind is that historically prices have gone up when more players are active. This can be observed every week by tracking prices on the weekend vs on weekdays. My assumption is that "casual" players (who may have only played a few hours on the weekend) tend to not list most of their drops and are more impatient with their bids, which drives prices up. On the other hand, "core" players (who play far more often) will more frequently be playing already-built characters and will be more tactical with their market interactions (either by being patient or using converters / merits to get what they want). Our average player count has been steadily increasing as everyone has been staying at home, and prices have also gone up (this was occuring before Page 5 released). Casual players are now playing more frequently and in greater numbers, but their interaction with the market hasn't changed, whereas the number of core players likely hasn't changed a great amount. The influx of new Electrical Affinity characters requiring builds will obviously also have increased demand on the market. -

Depends how many threads people make to discuss the same thing 🙂 -
It's not a case of simply turning it on unfortunately, everything has to be done manually at the moment. The tech to handle it automatically simply doesn't exist right now, and many other higher-priority tasks that have taken priority over building that tech. The policy was made public knowledge early on so players would be aware of these rules for when we get around to building (and enabling) the tech. Obviously as time goes on, those priority tasks are being knocked out and more and more names are becoming inactive, so it is rising up the list. We'll be getting to it soon.

We'll have it soon 🙂 F@h names need to be manually mapped to accounts, so it's taking a bit of time. -
Thank you for looking into this - it's now been resolved internally and the fix will be in an upcoming update. Please check your in-game email for a Bug Hunter badge 🙂

And our judgement was different. At the end of the day, the change was being made - no amount of discussion would've changed that. Our view was that opening that up would not only have spread knowledge of the exploit, but it also would've distracted from other features we were actively seeking feedback and testing on.- 1954 replies

Seeding recipes / enhancements is done indirectly through the Merit vendor and Enhancement Converters. They ensure that nothing is ever scarce. If we felt that needed more of an impact we would likely increase the availability of Merits rather than seeding directly into the market. This is definitely something we are keeping an eye on though. -

Stop for a moment and actually think about what disingenuous means. And now I have a question for you: Why would we make this change if we didn't think it was the best move for the playerbase as a whole? There's no ulterior motive here. Nobody is making any money out of this. We do this because we love the game. Every decision is made because we think it's the best thing we can do for the game (with the resources we have available). Of course we knew there would be blowback from a very, very vocal minority about this change, but we did it anyway because it was the right decision for the health of the game. Popularity be damned. You can be upset this has negatively impacted your experience. That's fine. We're not here to to tell you your opinion is invalid or that your feelings are unfounded. We're not here to tell you that you can't disagree with our decision. But we are here to run the server, and we're going to do that in the way we think will be best for the entire playerbase, not just the vocal minority.- 1954 replies

Because any conversation about this mechanic would've very quickly resulted in the exploit becoming public knowledge. Please go back through the thread and read the staff responses. Everything you've posted about has been addressed. Posting the same thing over and over again will not yield different results, it'll only make people less likely to listen to you at any point in the future. -
