Captain America: Brave New World
Excraft replied to Excraft's topic in Comic, Hero & Villain Culture
Some clips and a short scene of Red Hulk at the end of this video celebrating Marvel's 85th anniversary. Is it just me or is the CGI getting worse and not better? Can't say this makes me any more interested in seeing CA: BNW. -
I've seen that article before and yes, Michael Chabon really is a total hack and a complete piece of fecal matter. Back in the day, the creatives behind Star Trek knew that not everything they produced was of the highest quality and they were very humble in admitting it. Today, if someone doesn't like something, they're labelled as "toxic" and told they're every kind of negative -ist there is. Total hacks like Michael Chabon would never admit they're writing stinks - it's the fan's fault, not his complete and total lack of talent. Most here may have seen this before, but here's a good example. This is Shatner and Nimoy at a Trek convention when Star Trek VI premiered. If you've never seen it, Nimoy and Shatner both humbly talk and joke about how Trek wasn't always emmy award winning writing. They never blamed the fans for it. Nimoy even compliments and thanks the fans for being so forgiving.

Again, blaming the fans doesn't work and doesn't change the fact that the show under-performed, so it was cancelled. Had the show drawn in the viewership numbers it needed to renew, it would have been renewed. It didn't. And again, if you don't believe that there were and still are fans of the original Star Wars films who are women, LGBTQ, people of various races and ethnicity, you're absolutely fooling yourself. If you don't believe characters like Leia and Padme weren't strong female leads who were absolutely integral to the story, were well written and developed characters and were characters women and young girls could identify with, you're absolutely fooling yourself. It's not the actors/actresses fault... it's the poor writing, direction and production. There's nothing wrong with telling a story we haven't seen before. The problem with The Acolyte is it didn't deliver on that promise, no matter how you slice it. To be fair, I watched a couple of episodes and I personally didn't find it as bad as some of the more colorful reviewers found it to be, but that's a matter of opinion. Those people you mention who are quite clearly racist/misogynist in their social media posting are easily identified and even more easily ignored. I personally don't care what race or gender a writer is. It's their product that matters.

You can't target them, but they can still cause confusion as explained above. Not everyone is going to listen or abide by the request, and no doubt there will be those who summon them just to be trolls. As an example, people have been asked to not spawn Kronos Titans during the weekly SNS over on Torch, yet every week there's been at least one. First time people were asked not to spawn them, there were like 4 of them. That should give you some idea of how well asking nicely works.

Can't say I'm all that excited for this series. Not that I didn't like the character in Wandavision or Kathryn Hahn. I thought she was great in the role. I just don't think it's worth it's own series.
-
Is having your cosmetic pet really that important for a Hami raid? Especially if it's causing confusion for others as described above. I agree that tab and Ctrl Tab targeting can be sketchy and not always reliable.

Yes In a roundabout way, the OP is looking for suggestions on better ways to use macros for emotes and looking for discussion on suggestions on how emotes in general could work better.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps

Clip of the Human Torch's costume from D23. I hope this is a prank. Looks very cartoonish. -
I'm surprised no one from the Base Snobs™ club has dropped by yet to drop laugh emotes or tell people they need to "broaden their horizons". @honoroit - nice base. The inner tubes out in the shark infested sea is a nice touch. 😄

From my perspective, it does seem like more focus is put on team oriented content. Reading the forums here and chatting with others in game, I know I'm not the only one. There's a few of the HC folk who have posted over the years on the forums here how their preference is for team based content. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. They can work on whatever it is they want to work on. It's their server. Adding harder content is fine when it's optional like the hard mode TFs. Quite a lot of people have been turned off by the NPC revamps though, which aren't optional. I could be wrong, but I believe that's where the distinction is being made. Not saying those people are right or wrong, just my observation.
-
I don't disagree with the spirit of what the OP was saying here as it does seem clear that the direction is moving toward more "team oriented/required" content. I personally don't think that should be the sole focus, but that's me and HC can do whatever they like. Folks should also keep in mind there are other servers out there to try. There's not much any of us can do to affect change here. This server belongs to the HC people and they'll work on what they want, and there's nothing wrong with that. If everyone else leaves, they'll just go back to running a small server for family and friends. Remember, this isn't a commercial enterprise so there's no incentive for HC to cave to the whims and wishes of us regular folk. I'm not at all disparaging the HC team. I may not always agree with what they do, but I do respect and appreciate their dedication and work. I both like and dislike the changes that have been made, and for now there's enough to keep me interested in playing here.

Saw a few clips of this... so Penguin was gender swapped and all the men in Gotham are wanting her? Ok.... I'll pass.

You re-rolling is still far more efficient, less time consuming and easier than anyone here trying to code this as an option to Null. Others who have pointed out that this is baked into the character are correct and the live Devs mentioned that quite a few times as I recall. Exactly what I was thinking.

When the shitty "fake" trailer is leaps and bounds better than anything Marvel/Disney puts out, that's not a good sign. I don't have high hopes for this movie either. From what I've seen/read of this, it sounds just awful. Now we all know why they're in desperation mode bringing back RDJ as multiverse Iron Man "Doctor Doom." Completely agree. -
I have to agree with you and @PeregrineFalcon here. Stars like Stallone and Schwarzenegger are from a different era when the last of the movie stars were in their heyday. In their prime, people were going to see the new Stallone or Schwarzenegger movie. Title didn't matter and their films were referred to as such. Today, people refer to the MCU, not the next RDJ or Chris Evans or Scarlett Johansson movie. I also agree that there's plenty of opportunity out there for unknown or relatively unknown actors/acrtresses to be given an opportunity for career making roles. The formula of casting an unknown and surrounding them with a great supporting cast has worked very successfully over the years, especially in the superhero genre. See Christopher Reeves as Superman and Christian Bale as Batman. Another thing Disney and Hollywood in general need to do is start looking at smaller budgets. Again, get a good script and start from there.

I think its a very safe bet to say that he's going to have the mask off, at least for the early origin stuff they have to put in. I'm also not seeing this as a "guarantee" of anything yet. There's quite a lot of mixed reaction to this announcement, with many seeing it for what it is... a desperate attempt to revive a dying franchise. Some fans are overjoyed, some are "meh", some are not happy at all. I also disagree wholeheartedly that it doesn't matter who plays Doom. They need an actor with presence that can give the character the gravitas it deserves. Absolutely RDJ could pull it off... if he weren't already Iron Man in my opinion. Bringing him back as discount multiversal evil Tony Star/Evil Iron Man / Doctor Doom cheapens the sacrifice Tony Stark made in Endgame. Another thing people are starting to talk about is who are the Avengers now? Is Thor still there? Shang Chi? Discount Iron Man Ironheart? Hulk? Even with the Russo brothers and RDJ attached, if the script is crap, the film will be crap. The number one reason the MCU has been suffering flop after flop is the poor scripts trying to strike gold. This is what you get when you hire "writers" who don't know the first thing about the source material and never picked up a single comic book in their life. Of course they won't be able to write for an audience they don't understand or care about. You can't polish a turd, even with a great director and actor(s). I'll wait and see, but I don't have high hopes for this and it seems more like a stunt to resurrect the MCU. I do hope I'm wrong, but we'll see.
-
I can't get excited about this. The "multiverse" has played itself out for me and this smacks of nostalgia baiting by a desperate company looking backward instead of moving forward. So many other very talented actors out there who could do the role of Doom proper justice and not an alternate universe discount Iron Man. There's another thread going with some suggestions - Cillian Murphy, Karl Urban, Christian Bale... any of them would be better choices for this part. Not that I don't love RDJ as he's a great actor, but he's had his time in the MCU. Bringing him back as alternate universe evil Iron Man Doctor Doom just feels cheap.
-
Marvel fans have responded to Robert Downey Jr.’s casting as Doctor Doom, and many wish that Cillian Murphy was given the role instead. Murphy starred alongside RDJ in Oppenheimer, and some fans have suggested that the Irish actor would have been a better fit for Avengers: Doomsday. https://www.superherohype.com/movies/580386-cillian-murphy-doctor-doom-avengers-doomsday-robert-downey-jr Can't say I disagree. Not that I don't like RDJ, I loved him as Iron Man. This just seems like a cheap use of the multiverse to backdoor him back into the MCU. I think it's a safe bet to make he's going to be an alternate universe Stark who went evil. RDJ is wasted on this role in my opinion. Of course he can pull it off, but having been Iron Man and so central to the whole MCU as Tony Stark, I just don't see this working.

Respectfully, you're constantly moving the goalposts here. First, it was "oversized guitars aren't realistic" and "people couldn't hold them". Then when it's shown people can hold oversized guitars, it was "well, someone couldn't actually play an oversized guitar". Now when it's shown that someone can play an oversized guitar (including the neck), it's "they have to be standing to play it" as the new benchmark. I don't see anywhere in the OP @ShardWarrior made that suggests these guitar items must be actual, playable musical instruments and would be used as some sort of all new sonic-based musical instrument set in the game that would require the NPC to play the guitar. You're trying to inject that in to justify your criticism. All that was suggested was adding some guitar objects as options for the various hand held weapon sets. There's no mention of having these be playable instruments by NPCs at some concert venue in the game. These guitar options would just add some flavor to a new NPC villain group, much like the Warriors utilize different weapons (axes, swords, maces etc.) as an example. Some in the new villain group could utilize Sonics, some could use Symphony Control, some could use Guitars in lieu of a broadsword or titan weapon.
