Low Priority : More Day Job Badge Accolades ?
Super Atom replied to JMacClear's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
I really like this one, honestly. no idea why. Just stands out. Great suggestion 10/10 -
Well yes, another server would add cost. My one and only complaint was you mentioned 800, but it would appear i may have just misunderstood what you were saying. Like i said above, if the cost was too much it would likely be a non-starter. As for the lore, again you could basically call this non-canon experience and be done with it. The forking codebase, if it did actually require that much attention and wasn't closer to a side feature that didn't require that much attention, i would agree with you that it wouldn't be worth it.

Me being toxic to toxic people absolutely happened, yes.
-
Well, he did literally ask to be proven wrong about how many people would enjoy it, which i felt wasn't needed here. Hardcore is obviously a feature people enjoy, even if it's a lower population. It's like PvP in that way. I think i need to be clear, for me personally if adding Hardcore would require more dev time than just adding the feature and the occasional bug fix if there is one, I don't think it would be worth it either. If they had to address hardcore with every single update and make specific changes, then I too would be on the side of "this probably isn't worth it".
-
It's absolutely fine to just go "I wouldn't like this" i just personally think it doesn't give much to the conversation at hand. "I don't like this because ___ " even if the reason is short, gives the idea poster something to work from and can potentionally evolve an idea from something that may not have worked into something more people would be good with, an example is literally here in this topic. A lot of pretty good reasons an entire server isn't ideal but more were receptive to it being an option like the PvP warrior. You are right though, sometimes there are ideas so out in space that it collectively confuses everyone.

We do yes, but the comment made is it would be 800 dollars for a new shard, which i don't think is accurate? I genuinely don't believe it would be, I think Hardcore would be pretty niche as far as the CoH playerbase goes, which is why my support mostly shifted to Checkbox over server, my only issue with that is difficult for Homecoming. If it's easier to do a server, that would likely be preferable but as you mentioned, the server brings all kinds of other issues into account including EU Regions. The checkbox solves that, but it brings up- This is mostly hypothetical situation that could likely not occur, but I'm not sure this would be a fairly large bug that would hopefully be caught in testing phases. We already do this for every server an individual who donates doesn't use, I'm not sure what you mean. If the cost was too much, which again i think would require an actual developer to comment on, then obviously the server specific idea would be a non-starter and i believe people would accept this answer, or just any "We're not interested in this" really. I appreciate your post, It's a great set of questions and weekend math. I don't think I've told anyone it's their responsibility to figure out though, only for Devs who are literally the only ones who can comment on specific things, like how much it would really cost or if something would require complete reworks of powers or not. Or that one guy who told me i had to prove him wrong, which again i still maintain nobody has to prove anything to another player to suggest something like this. It's not the same as someone calling a power bad and being asked for proof its bad. (I'm still not feeling well, so if you reply with follow up and get nothing for days it's illness and not disinterest)
-
You're mistaken, My toxicity complaint is for people calling ideas "Dumb" "Stuipid" or "awful" and thats their only contribution. I don't think just saying "i dont like this" is a good post to make, but it's not exactly toxic.
-
Yeah, as much as i love the idea of letting people keep their stuff for a more casual City of Heroes approach to things- It'd probably be easier to do the dead > disconnect route. Also I've become increasingly more ill as the day has gone by so i likely won't be around to reply anymore. Sorry to those wanting to reply to me but aren't around in time to. If you're for what i say, pretend i gave you a thumbs up. If you're against me, pretend i said something mean. 👍 see you at the next one

I think a simple popup that goes "Self revives and awakens won't save you from HC death" would work just fine and be easier tbh
-
Idk about badges but i think if they did a hardcore, there should be a badge for doing the really hard way in hardcore called "Sweaty" 🤭
-
With a lot of things like revives and what not, It is just accepted as "oh well deal with it". If you get ganked by something unfair or dumb, oh well start over. It's just the nature of hardcore. It can often be janky and weird and off putting but people still love doing it. I think a forum section would be a great start, but it would really need some semblance of support in-game to take flight this far into Homecomings life span.
-
Technically the checkbox was not my idea @Maelwys 😛 i just also thought it was a good alternative idea to a whole server if that was an issue for homecoming.
-
im going to reach through the internet and force you to make a hardcore character 😱
-
The character loses HC on death, you simply do not take self revives. You don't need to specifically outlaw them. You keep saying server cost, but there is basically no backing to what you're saying. We don't know how much spinning up another shard would cost overall, last time i checked their hardware can handle more than what its doing already, now this doesn't absolutely mean it'd be costless or anything. But your assumption it would be 800 additional dollars seems misinformed. This is mostly assumptions though. You don't know its popularity or cost, not really. It could be unpopular and fall flat. Absolutely it could. Or it could not. This is what the discussion about an idea is for. Finding better or more efficient ways for something to be added. Congratulations, you did it.

Honestly, You're not wrong. You can already self do this. The main benefit of having a built in system is fostering a community without needing to question certain things. Cheating in hardcore is often a problem on self-governed hardcore capable games and also having direct support for a community is pretty important to help one grow. Is that worth the dev time? That'd be a Homecoming call. I do think DR_Scorps idea (minus the prove it to us part) for a hardcore community to really show interest in the idea if there is anyone left would be a big help overall, but again it's a bit hard to gain steam in a game like this for something like that without pre-existing support for it. Shared HC/non HC can be difficult, which is why its often done separately or in a different phase. However, its own server /is/ a bit hard to justify with the current Hardcore participation, which is why he should be happy with any support to help build a community around the idea of hardcore.

Both styles exist, sometimes it lets you just move the character to a different server and keep it. I imagine with how CoH is and how characters made, It'll likely be a nice option to let people just keep the toon if they want to. Since they're not gaining anything unfairly, no increases in rewards or anything i don't see much of a reason we couldn't let that happen. My personal preference would be keeping, just not getting the badge unless you reached 50. or whatever it may be. If not, so be it. Perma deletion is the traditional style, so i would understand if they did do hardcore them choosing that route.
-
I'll make one final attempt to shift it back to the idea. and ignore @Maelwys entirely. So far we've had two ideas thrown out there as versions of the hardcore concept. Its own server A checkbox like temporal warrior on every server I personally like either, but think a checkbox like temporal would be ideal. A Hardcore server/checkbox would likely need to have Email system disabled Trading with other players disabled Auction house disabled Character removed from HardCore on death possibly something to show this character is in HC, maybe like the roleplaying status Possible rewards for doing so was suggested A badge

This routine again ok here we go again- Nobody said you can't give criticism, but you know what isn't criticism? Most of the replies in this thread. It's mostly just trashing the idea, pretending they've never heard of hardcore in an MMO setting before and therefor it shouldn't happen, and a lot of wild assumptions on why this cannot possible be done. Barely is there at any point in this thread criticism of any actual idea presented. It's mostly just people, like you, dismissing the way someone else enjoys the game as a waste of developer time or stupid. Here's a idea for you, you don't like an optional feature? Don't fucking do it.
-
Did i miss that being a requirement for a suggestion? Did i miss a developer asking to see those first?
-
You're being really disingenuous with that comparison. This isn't an outlandish idea that is a new concept.
-
"Developers would need to develop to create this feature" You don't have to change lore or power selections or anything. It's just an optional experience, it doesn't need to tie into the story.
-
I'm sure OP would be fine with a checkbox too, What he wants is pre-established enforced rules to prevent cheating in the community. Not every suggestion has to always be the initial ask, it can be discussed and brainstormed into better and easier ways to include things, the true actual purpose of these forums. I misread your last part there, my bad. removed it 😞
-
I forgot entirely we have something closeish already with PvP warriors or w/e, a checkbox enabling different rulesets. A checkbox at creation would be ideal, though i do worry about allowing them to join TF's with non-HC people and dying in it and making the TF be down a person. I think you'd have to not allow them to team with non-HC players. (at least for TF's) Or maybe if they die, the HC ends but they're allowed to keep playing the toon if they like. Would also remove the danger of making a TF be down a person.

It works fine for CoH, no idea why you'd suggest this. Took five seconds to find 100s of them, you should probably do any amount of research before making claims. ( I think you're just bad at Dark souls) Many many game studios actively seek out streamers as a form of advertising, this method is backed by increases in player counts/store subscriptions/meal plans/whatever. You're objectively incorrect. This also wasn't the point though, I wasn't saying we should add it because of Twitch. Like Arcane said, the people on twitch are often worth avoiding. I mentioned to someone who said no one was interested in it that it was currently the most popular thing happening in another MMO via twitch. Lets stop this out of context narrative right there' I'm more tired of people acting like they have the final say and can be toxic and speak down to people just trying to express ideas they think would be cool to see. You're not a developer and your egos preventing you from just admitting that is crazy. Whats more is you just lie? Nobody is saying to anyone who expresses they don't like an idea and nothing more that they aren't developers. People who have no background in game development or any technical background often making claims something cannot be done, or isn't possible are the ones being told. Don't gaslight. Also, telling people to LEAVE THE FORUMS because they disagree with you is fucking wild. Peak toxic behavior.

The clouds have been thoroughly yelled at, i assure you.
