Weekly Discussion 80: More Hard Mode or New Zones & Missions?
Take One replied to GM ColdSpark's topic in General Discussion
For new content, something which could be dropped in almost seamlessly, would be more tip missions. They wouldn't even have to be tied to the morality system, they could be stand-alone tips that lead to some interesting mission which your character runs into on their own and decide to investigate on their own. It would give a greater feeling of autonomy instead of the feeling of working for different contacts most of whom you don't care about. There could be different flavors of new tip missions dropping depending on your current morality, or they could all be neutral. New tip missions could even lead into short arcs of 2-3 missions, with a bonus at the end, to make them more attractive for players. Naturally badges would help draw people to doing them, too. The best thing about it is that we could add them to all levels of play, in every zone, for every player, with what I believe to be a minimum of fuss. The tip mission system is already there, ready to be modified. Red-side already drop special tips for unlocking Strike Forces or the Pandora's Box contact so clearly it's possible to add tips that aren't connected to the morality system, and which leads to other missions, or even to other contacts. And as they are stand-alone missions, or maybe shorter arcs, they can be created much easier than for example the latest new Freakshow/Vahzilok arcs - great as they may be - which was a huge job if I understood the devs' blog correctly. Even so, they can introduce unique mobs and game concepts, if those are available - perhaps to test them out before they are released into the open world or used in a greater arc. My personal love for tip missions comes from that they make me feel like the active agent in my character's story and not just a follower or someone who reacts to what other people are doing. I'm the one deciding to follow up on a lead, not some contact with a vague hunch about the Skulls again. -
No! NO! AAAH!

Here are some arcs I made on the live servers, and republished recently: A Taste For Evil (#34159): An arc intended for VEATs (but hopefully enjoyable by anyone). You have been volunteered to try out the new NutriPaste flavor before it gets introduced on open the market. Enjoy your tasty and nutritious snack. Please report any unexpected side-effects to your superior officer. Is That A Club In Your Pocket Or Are You Just Happy To See Me? (#34161): It's the anniversary of Pocket D's opening and you're going to party all night long. Or so you thought. Instead you find DJ Zero sitting on the curb outside the entrance to the club... This can't be good. The Doctor Returns (#34208): The Doctor is back to stop Crey's latest insane scheme for world domination. Can you help her hack the Mission Architect? (The first arc I ever made, so it's a bit primitive, but I still thought it could be fun.) Evolve Or Die (#34209): Frostfire has been released from the Zig and the FBSA have asked you to act as his parole officer. Is Frostfire telling the truth about having found faith in prison, and is he really a changed man? Only time will tell. The Warburg Connection (#34211): Alan Desslock needs your help to handle some business in Warburg. What at first seems like normal spying and bloody murder turns out to be something much more personal. (Another VEAT arc, but hopefully anyone can enjoy it. This one will probably need some more work, but I publish it anyway so people can comment.) Et In Arcadia Ego (#34212): The Dreamlord is missing. Can you find him before his dreamworld is transformed into a nightmare? Learn about the Dreamlord's friends and enemies in a tale of old grudges and new friendship forged in a dream. (This is an origin story for a character I no longer have, since someone else has the name "Dreamlord" on Everlasting, so I might rewrite this if I remake the character...)

That's hilarious.

If the NPC is some cosmic entity like Uatu the Watcher, who tells tales of Elseworlds or What-ifs... The stories don't have to be canon then - they can be canon-related, and each player can decide for themselves if they are canon to them. Such an entity would fit in Ouroboros, and could present the tales as events that may or may not have happened in other timelines or other dimensions, much like the other Menders, but maybe from an outsider's perspective. Further, whatever these devs make up from now on would be fan-made material anyway, but in the end is it any different than what the OG devs made up? Most of the time I thought the OG crew made up some really stupid shit to explain things that should have remained meta-game content (like Icon, the invention system, heck even the AE itself), so I'm not opposed to the creation of new canon material. And if that new canon start out as a story in the AE, that's just fine with me too. -

There's no real reason why Contact couldn't be set on a per-mission basis (except programming it, of course). -

Has anyone suggested reskinning enemies yet? Basically you would take the powers of a regular enemy and give to one of your custom creations. It might not work with all mobs, because some have special animations or body types that don't work with the body types we create, but there should be enough that could be used which would let us bypass the annoying power selection. Sometimes you just need goons with guns and bats, you know? Or you want to make your own Malta group, or re-create Longbow or Arachnos or you need some mages that aren't Circle of Thorns. -

I think the engineeers are missing because they could be made into allies, which would make you invincible, or some such nonsense. I forget what the problem was but it was some exploit. Could have been something else entirely. But the healers from the Cimerorans are also missing, probably for the same reason, or in their case maybe because they don't have attacks so you could create a custom group entirely made up of Cimeroran surgeons and rake in the xp without any risk. -

Ideally all of them should be rewritten to be shorter, maybe replaced with part 1 & 2 like Posi, but mostly just remove redundant filler missions and stuff. Actually, each contact could have several shorter unrelated TFs, if one can't be converted into a two-parter. -

Can we add more future topics here? Because I think it would be cool if we could consider updating some of the ancient TFs. New Positron 1 & 2 are cool and all, but all the other original Phalanx TFs could use an update, and a reshuffle so they make more sense. Penelope Yin should host the Clockwork TF, which should involve the King trying to get back at Blue Steel. Synapse should host the Crey TF. I'll save other ideas for the future discussion. -
The small Longbow jetpack was recently fixed to have its intended red and white coloration. I propose that a separate jetpack with the bugged colors (black) is added to the P2W store, for people who preferred that aesthetic, until such a time as when we can choose the colors for our jetpacks ourselves.

Flurry is generally considered one of the worst if not the worst attacks in the game. Since it's part of the Speed pool, why not make it actually help your speed so people might consider using it. Thus: add a +Recharge bonus to Flurry so that when you attack with it, your other powers recharge faster, similar to Force Feedback: Chance for +Recharge.

Weekly Discussion 79: Mercenaries. Discuss!
Take One replied to GM ColdSpark's topic in General Discussion
I just like to add that I think the aesthetics of the t1 soldiers is silly. They look like WW2 Marines about to storm Normandy, and not like modern soldiers at all. Ideally they should be unique models like thugs, each with some individuality to them. -
If you try to buy SOs from the ticket vendor in the AE building when you're below level 22, they won't sell them to you. They still offer DOs and TOs, too. I think TOs were supposed to be removed from stores? Not sure.
-
I will also offer my time to try to prep maps, since unlike Ankylosaur I'm creatively void and need more maps.
-
Well, I was planning an arc with some viking action so I could use snow-covered maps. Like the ones we have in the winter events, against Snaptooth and the winter witch.

This place, a walkway leading up to the second floor of some kind of Arachnos structure in Sharkhead, near the Arbiter, has been like this since forever. There's a wall straight across the walkway so you can't actually walk onto the upper floor, you have to jump over that wall. It's ridiculous and annoying when you try to walk up there like a normal person. A minor error to be sure, but still.

Focused Feedback: Stance Selection
Take One replied to Jimmy's topic in [Open Beta] Focused Feedback
That's good, but *that* is an inconvenience because it turns off ALL my toggles, not just the stance toggle upon death. Can we have a power that only turns off the stance auto-power, so we can stand up straight at the flick of a toggle again? -

This is a minor inconvenience* compared to not being able to turn off the ninja run or beast run hunched standing at will. *not an inconvenience at all -

Awesome. I still would have liked an explanation for why the change was suddenly necessary. -

Can Shinobi have the Ninja Run animation then, if it's not allowed to stack with Ninja Run, so we can at least look cool while we use it? I can live with them not stacking, if I can slot up Shinobi with runspeed and jump enhancements, to achieve something close to what I used to have, if the run/jump animation was the same. I still don't understand the changes, because no explanation was given, so I don't like them... -
I've been asking around on the Discord but nobody seems to know anything about how this is done, or which Dev I might want to ask about it. Maybe nobody is trying to do this at all, which would be understandable. I'm just trying to find out if there are plans to make more maps available in the AE, and maybe a little about how it's done. Maybe it's something I could potentially do with my limited programming knowledge, or anyone if it's mostly a matter of data entry/revision.

That was an idea I hadn't thought of, and I also approve of this.
