I work for Comcast* and for 15 years, I've heard endless complaints from people who wanted "a la carte" programming so, now that it's nearly upon us, it's interesting to see people begin to realize how unfeasibly expensive those standalone options will be. (*I have nothing to do with tech support, billing or customer service, so don't yell at me.)

There's a difference between Astronomical and Meteorological dates for the starts of seasons. While the Astronomical start of winter is the solstice (December 21st), the Meteorological start is December 1st. Therefore, neither is really wrong.

My strategy thus far has been to buy a few dozen packs, impatiently sell the components, and then grumble that I'm only breaking even. I'm not sure it's a strategy that I can strongly endorse at this time.

This is why I installed different instances of the HC launcher in 2 folders, rather than use the Multiple Instances option. Call me lazy, but I prefer not having to endlessly replace the user name.

Less of a costume (literally) than a concept built around an aura, I've been playing around for a while with the idea of an ethereal character. The vaporous aura + invisibility + hover creates a satisfyingly gaseous effect. Ms. Freon, Ice/Ice Dominator.

I knew there was a "cross" pattern! I scrolled through 3 times looking for it. I swear, costume parts hide from me. (Also, how embarrassing to realize it's the third one down and I guess I was skipping past it.) I'm really liking parts of both suggestions; thanks guys! I'll be fiddling around with this one for a bit I suspect, but you've both given me some great ideas.

Out of my 50-ish toons, there are a small handful that I haven't satisfactorily visualized; I've gotten some great help here, so let's give this one a go. The Baltic Shield. Named after the geological formation of Fennoscandia, he's a Scandinavian Captain America-type (SJ/Shield Brute). I'm going for a sleek, Silver Age superhero look with, perhaps, a small Viking flair. Ideally I'm trying to match the feel, if not the look, of one of the Nordic flags which has proven to be elusive in the costume creator, at least to the limits of my skills in there. I don't particularly care which flag, although my latest rough draft is based on Norway.

I must admit, I like this one enough that I saved it even though I have no character or concept that it suits; maybe one day ...

Excellent job de-constructing everything I was going for and coming up with some major improvements! I went with most of your suggestions, with just a few tweaks. I played around with a few of the leather/scrap pants, but went with 'Rough Leather' because the patches fit with the scarecrow theme without being too raggedy. Also went with alternate costumes -- Toxic Vapor on the gloves for non-combat, and an even more scarecrow-ish look with the Cabal hat. His costume change emote is Murder of Crows, naturally. Real happy with the way he turned out; thanks!

Looking for some ideas & suggestions on this guy. Scaremonger, a Dark/Dark Dominator (although is dark powers are colored to be more of a fear-gas). The backpack cannisters, shoulder & gloves are integral to the concept, but everything else is up for grabs. I'm going for a supervillain that is evocative of a scarecrow, without looking raggedy.

Well I'm stumped. How was the head -- or, lack thereof -- achieved? Playing around in Auras, I can get the headless look with glowing eyes or cloud, but not both ...

Not replying to anyone in particular, but sharing some general thoughts. As a longtime empath Defender -- a toon I played for the entirety of CoH's original run and my first on HC to hit 50 -- the dismissive, "it's only good in the early levels" attitude I often see on the board and over on reddit saddens me a bit. I admit, I can't entirely deny it. My other 50 is a spines/fire Brute and I sometimes dual box them. Pains me to say it, but the empath in that case is a superfluity; Fortitude, Adrenaline Boost, stacked Leadership and the occasional Sniper shot are all nice to have, but the Brute functions just as well solo. And so, on a team with one or more max-built, Incarnate powerhouses, an empath is unnecessary. What that overlooks, however, is that even at 50, not every player is a max-built, Incarnate powerhouse. There are still plenty of casual players with sub-optimal builds on messy teams. I'm on as many teams that shred my nerves trying to keep everyone alive as I am twiddling my thumbs because I have little to offer, and whole bunch that fall somewhere in between.

Both great suggestions and combining elements of both gets me awfully close to a fully developed looks. I took the heavy emphasis on leather/fur from the first, and I love the feeling that she's wearing a pelt hood as in the second. I'll be tweaking details -- gloves & belt -- for a few days I suspect, but she's taking form.

My "inspired by ..." costumes. Major Mercury, kinetic/electric super speed Scrapper. Isocrateia ("Equal Power"), Inv/SS Tank. Nite-Raptor, claws/will Brute.

Okay as a relatively new (returned) player, I finally have to ask a dumb question. Some of the graphics in this thread look closer to Champions Online than City of Heroes. At first, I thought people were posting costumes from both games. Is there a setting or something in CoH that makes it look more like CO, or am I just imagining visual differences?

This is the first time I've ever been totally stumped on visualizing a character; so any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated. Miss Menagerie, a blueside Magic, Beast/Nature MM; she can both summon beasts & shapeshift. I've tried various "Jungle Queen" and "shaman" attempts at design, but didn't land of anything satisfactory. I don't hate her costume -- sometimes something sleek & simple is great -- but it hasn't helped me define her persona. Other than spending the 2M inf for the coyote & panther travel powers, I haven't done anything with her. I'm not opposed to re-rolling her with a different Origin or Secondary to fit a better costume/concept to match the name.

My two main toons. Lampyris (50, spines/fire Brute); I struggled nailing her look, but the particular helmet did the trick. Kid Lazarus (50 Emp/NRG Defender); my very first hero from back in 2004 and my longtime main alt. His look and color schemes have evolved quite a bit through the years until landing here.

Akagitsune ("the Red Fox"), Claws/Ninja Scrapper.

A lot more 'glowing' pieces, like Ascension and Tech Knight. I love the pieces we have and, as a result, use them over & over (& over). More, particularly some that look mystical rather than technological, would be much appreciated. Seems too that a lot of older pieces could be spruced up with a glowing option.

Replying to a couple old posts, but I wasn't around back in 2019 ... I'm a huge fan of Energy Blast. Other than flying, nothing makes me feel more 'super' than sending foes hurling in all directions. I think it took me one week in 2004 to learn that melee types don't like it; so, I don't do that to them. Problem solved. As a Defender, I'm generally not trying to jump into a melee fray or draw too much agro anyway. In between healing & buffing, I target stragglers or mobs on the periphery. Seems like Energy's bad rep is caused by players who don't bother to adjust their strategies. But I love the KB for soloing; Explosive Blast has often kept me from being overrun.

The Cobra Queen (Earth/Earth Dominator); daughter of Wadjet the cobra goddess. Human, full mummy and cobra forms. Wish we had more Egyptian pieces though!

Longtime COH player (2004-2012) but only recently returned. Having a blast recreating old toons, and playing around with some new ones too. Sgt. Glory, a new toon; SS/inv Brute. Heavily inspired by two unrelated costumes posted up-thread that I mashed together without, hopefully, being too infinge-y. Dr. Arcanum, a demon/time MM and recreated toon. An obvious pastiche of Doctors Strange, Fate & Occult. The second costume would preferably by an overcoat, but ... Tokusatsu (can't believe I got that name!), Ill/Sonic Controller.

Longtime CoH player (2004-2012) here, exclusively on Freedom. My mains were Kid Lazarus (50 empath/energy Defender) and Freek (50 mind/psi Controller). It's embarrassing to admit, but I don't recall the name of my longtime SG, but I was playing sporadically and mostly solo for the last few years. In the unlikely event anyone recalls me, feel free to shoot me a note! I had read some time back that CoH had returned, but "rogue server" sounded complicated and illicit. If I had known rejoining was so simple, I would have jumped in months ago.
