  1. No mention of "The Really Hard Way" yet?
  2. For me (and pretty much everyone I've talked to in-game about it), Steamy Mist is definitely a "must have" power in the Storm Summoning set, often 5- or 6-slotted, since it takes both defense and resist sets. The only time it's a problem is when it's interfering with an NPC follow and the person with it just WILL NOT turn it off for whatever reason. I have seen people kicked for this (rightfully, in my opinion). Since you weren't anywhere near this guy, such interference couldn't have been the issue here. I think he was just lashing out because he was frustrated at failing the mission.
  3. I was looking back through this thread a bit and I can't help but wonder how often the HC devs post semi-random pictures with vague hints, wait to see what people will guess is being worked on, and then use those guesses as an idea bank for future development. (Also, if this is indeed the case, I'm totally fine with it! I just like that they're listening. 😄)

    Magic

What kind of magic? Is this an ancient sorcerer who made a pact with an eldritch entity and ended up immortal? Is this a modern-day goth kid who found out they actually ARE descended from witches? Is this a street magician whose magic became real when they bought a new prop at a second-hand store? Is this an angelic being from an apocalyptic future who has come back in time to save humanity? Just about anything can be made to fit a "magic" theme (especially since we can color our powers now), so narrowing down the specific type of character you want would help a lot.
  5. I'm kind-of assuming you mean the character of Positron, but if you're talking about the particle, a positron is the anti-particle version of an electron, so from a particle physics viewpoint the positron and the electron are opposites. Sorry, my (not-so-)inner science nerd just couldn't let this go. More great costumes, please!
  6. This thread is for people who want help making costumes using stuff that's already in the game. The other thread is for costume parts/features people would like to see added to the game. I could definitely understand how devs looking for ideas would NOT want to have to sort through 40+ pages of a thread to sift out a few ideas.
  7. It's an option in the "Bottom" slot under the "Bottoms" and "Skirts/Shorts" categories.. To get the boots, you have to select "Flat" as the first option ("Mummified" will then be available in the second option. You cannot put patterns on it, so the third option just says "No Selection Available").
  8. Just FYI, the new Mids update seems to have fixed this.
  9. That looks sick in the best way possible. If you want to make it sicker, you could include the Spliced cape colored fleshy-toned (lightest orange shade) on one side and bright red on the other to make it look like he's wearing his former skin as a cape. I used that on a costume for a friend's character with a similar premise. And before you ask, yes, I've been to therapy. The couches aren't that comfy. 😛
  10. If you want to, you can create and play a storm/storm defender and then switch the name if you find him worthy. Or give your storm/elec a new name and roll the storm/storm with the name you want, with the contingency of switching the name back if you don't like storm/storm. You don't have to delete anyone. You can try ALL teh things!!!1!!
  11. Oh hey, I've been there! It' in Yreka, California. They make great waffles.
  12. Is 5-digit damage even a thing in this game? I have a couple stalkers who can crack 4 digits with a Built Up Assassin's Strike when the Gaussian's set proc goes off, but I don't think I've ever seen anything in the 2000s or higher, and definitely nowhere even remotely near the 5-digit range.
  13. I'm having the opposite problem; legacy builds (with the .mxd file type) open just fine, but any time I try to open a build with the new .mbd file type, Mids freezes and I have to close it. This happens with old files I've edited and saved with the new .mbd file type and files created originally in the .mbd file type. I have no idea why or what's going on. I've posted on the Mids Discord about this, too. Overall, this leads me to dislike the .mbd file type! 😠 😛 Edited to add: I can open an .mbd file from File Explorer, just not from the Mids app itself, so this isn't totally app-breaking, but it is frustrating.
  14. Current rankings: 1) Savage 2) Dark or Psionic (tie) 3) Sonic or Energy (tie) 4) Thorny 5) Earth, Electric, Fiery, Icy, or Martial (5-way tie!) Radiation has no votes, so I didn't list it. It seems to me like radiation would be a thematically good pairing for a light-based character who wields electromagnetic radiation of many frequencies, creating illusions with visible-range frequencies and using higher frequencies (x-rays and gamma rays) to irradiate foes. I guess the mechanics don't work too well, though. Anyone have any thoughts on this pairing?
  15. My ill/dark is probably my favorite character... like, EVER. The -res in Tar Patch effectively increases PA damage. The -regen in Twilight Grasp and Howling Twilight help things die faster as well. Between the two sets, you have FOUR defense buffs, which gives you lots of places to put the LotG +rech IO without having to use up all of your pool power picks, as well as making you nearly unhittable. 3 of those 4 apply to Phantasm, as does Soul Absorption (+regen and +recovery buff), so you have enough tools to keep him alive enough of the time to be *dramatic gasp* useful, even at max difficulty. Add in Maneuvers from the Leadership pool for your 5th +def power (to get that 5th LotG +rech IO) and he's gonna stick around most of the time. I also find it works pretty well thematically as a spooky or monster-in-the-dark type character who has their enemies so scared they're seeing things that aren't really there... or are they?
  16. You can observe an inward spiral with ordinary dust devils, and they're about as small-scale as these things get. It's not very strong at that scale, of course, but it's still noticeable. Also, super-hero media has always taken some... creative liberties with science. I was just trying to point out that saying "storms don't really work that way" is not correct, so it's not a reasonable justification for avoiding adding an inward pull effect to storm powers. (I cannot speak to the coding issues that may hinder or prevent adding such an effect, since that's outside my area of expertise/knowledge, but I do know something about atmospherics and fluid dynamics.)
  17. I know I'm really really late to this party, but as a physics major, I just have to comment on this. While most of the motion of hurricane winds is circular, there is some inward motion, especially near the earth's surface when the hurricane makes landfall (sources: The National Weather Service https://www.weather.gov/jetstream/tc_structure#:~:text=Cross section of a typical, top in the opposite direction. , the World Meteorological Organization https://public.wmo.int/en/our-mandate/focus-areas/natural-hazards-and-disaster-risk-reduction/tropical-cyclones , and the University of Rhode Island's Graduate School of Oceanography, which includes a very handy diagram http://www.hurricanescience.org/science/science/primarycirculation/#:~:text=Hurricanes%3A Science and Society%3A Primary Circulation&text=In the lower troposphere (near, direction in the Southern Hemisphere. ). The reason for this inward motion is fairly straightforward; the faster a fluid (gas or liquid) moves, the more its pressure decreases (this is Bernoulli's principle). When the air pressure decreases in one location, air (and other objects) in other locations will move into the low pressure area. In a cyclonic storm, if the air has any sideways motion at all it will start to spiral inwards. This sideways/rotational motion will increase as the distance of the air to the center decreases (conservation of angular momentum, like when ice skaters pull their arms in to twirl faster). This increases the wind speed, which, again, decreases the air pressure, which helps maintain the pressure imbalance that fuels the storm. If there were no air rushing inward, there would be no hurricanes or tornadoes in the first place. While it's true that most of the air's motion is circular, there is still some appreciable inward motion.
  18. Not necessarily the whole set, but one specific power: Lightning Rod from Electrical Melee. It just feels so "SUPER!" to me, like "KABOOOOM! YOU ARE ALL DEAD NOW, OR WILL BE SHORTLY! FEAR MY POWAHHHHH!". 🙂
  19. Late night slot machine challenge superteam on Indom started hitting 30 tonight. Should get the rest there in the next couple days.
  20. It won't let you make DB/Shield. You'll need to re-roll.
  21. FYI, there's also a random AT/powerset roller here: https://coh.tips/city-suggests/ I don't know if this one includes Epics (although it doesn't seem to after several rolls) or what the weights are, though I assume all possibilities are evenly weighted. wait, nvm, this doesn't seem to have some of the latest powersets (symph, ill for doms, etc.).
  22. Roll 1: 32 54 33 = Fire/Kin Corruptor Roll 2: 5 81 7 = Water/Dev Blaster Roll 3: 98 22 35 = Elec/Fire Tanker So... I have some thinking to do.... Edited to add: After messing around with builds a bit, I'm going to go with the Tanker.
  23. Roll 1: 32 54 33 = Fire/Kin Corruptor Roll 2: 5 81 7 = Water/Dev Blaster Roll 3: 98 22 35 = Elec/Fire Tanker So... I have some thinking to do....
