I don't have a mic on the PC I usually play on, and don't want one either. Chatting player voices breaks immersion for me. It reminds me of bad games I quit playing because the encounters required so much coordination and catherding that they felt like a second job. And I despise the Discord interface either on the app or on the web; is this something you're supposed to run on a smartphone or something? I have it, but it's been more than a couple months since I logged in.

I eventually gave up and bought the 2XP boost and levelled my one Praetorian out of there, never looking back. The only real reminder I have of the character's origin is the grey border on everything (can that be changed?) I ran a stalker, Electric/WP, with a name that relates to Primal lore more than Praetorian anyways.

This piece had been out there under a placeholder title for a while and I finally figured out what the finale would look like. SFMA. 3 missions. Contains a custom archvillain, custom elite bosses, and several large ambushes. Satirical content.

Having played a Shield/Dark tanker, I can say that the power sets have strong synergy. Dark Melee is currently in many ways the premier tanker attack set. It benefits powerfully from the increased range and AoE potential that tankers get. Used to be that Shadow Maul was really a single target attack that occasionally got a second mob; now it works as described, at least on tankers. Dark Melee is also very beneficial to armor sets that lack a self-heal or have a slow self-heal. That said, are you that close to the 1000 alt limit that you need to strip and delete characters? Even if you want to give your old names to your new characters, you can always rename your existing characters. I've done things like given characters a concept transplant, transferring names and costumes to new characters and giving established ones new names and concepts. Your new character will be easier to build if they have an established level 50 sugar daddy. And, while resistance sets are for tankers and brutes, defense sets shine on scrappers. Scrappers will never get as much out of something like Invulnerability or Fire as brutes and tankers do because of their lower resistance caps. For a defense based set like Shield, the scrapper is on an even footing as the brute. (Tankers, of course, get better out of the box numbers either way.) I would keep your shield scrapper one way or another. The crits and reliable higher base damage may be missed on the tanker.

Instant Healing: why hasn't it been reverted to a toggle yet?
Heraclea replied to LEUGIM6's topic in General Discussion
I don't remember, because it's something I've been saying since Victory days. It is likely that someone else came up with the suggestion and it just 'clicked'. It does seem the way to buff Regen while keeping it the same set it developed into in the end, as an armor set that works and plays differently from all of the others. -

To me the ATs divide into two even simpler camps: Has mez protection: - Tanker - Scrapper - Brute - Sentinel - Arachnos soldier - Kheldian - Stalker Sometimes has mez protection, based on level of investment with merits/inf and build stage: - Blaster - Dominator - Mastermind (not really, but can usually diffuse single target mezzes) No native mez protection: - Defender - Controller - Corruptor I fall fairly conatantly in the 'mez protection' camp. Characters with mez protection avoid the single most annoying and frustrating mechanic in the game. They are fun to play on teams and fun solo. They are the money and merit makers that support the rest of the roster. Characters lacking mez protection are team specialists for specific purposes. Those characters need teams to be fun to play, and are built to be useful on teams, providing things like debuffs to help the team take down difficult targets. My poison/dark defender comes out whenever anyone wants to run the Kahn TF, for instance. She is fun because she makes the TF much faster and easier. Not great for soloing, IMO.

I had to defend the game's honor folks...

A drastic sword and shield nerf is the main reason I'm not playing ESO any more. COH was different. I too quit playing for about a year and went to WoW for a while in the aftermath of ED on top of GDN. Eventually I found progression raiding and the drama it generated too toxic. and realized that there was no path to building a character that easily triumphed over whatever the game could throw at it. So I came back in time for inventions, which intrigued me a little; and what ultimately hooked me again was Cimerora. After a while I had the Factory set up to avoid the broken inf markets on old live and was using set IOs and making builds. I did leave again for a while, for Age of Conan; still love the setting and look of the game world. But that game too turned into a ghost town, without help of drastic nerfs. -

Solo players - what parts of a mission matter to you?
Heraclea replied to DougGraves's topic in General Discussion
My philosophy in writing for AE is to put everything important, the things you need to follow the story, into boss and NPC chatter. Those are the things that show up even if the players are deep in combat. I do add mob descriptions for custom mobs, contact NPC sendoffs, and the like, but I see that sort of thing as peripheral. My 'stories' are mostly about surrealistic humor anyways, making mobs say and do bizarre things, so making the mobs say bizarre things is job 1. -

The problem that I see with regen is not just that it's harder to play. It's harder to play with no payoff. This was not the case in the early game, before IOs and before Stamina was just given to you. Then, Quick Recovery at level 4 was enough compensation for a lot of things, especially when you could six slot that power for recovery and free up your build in other ways. Now, Fire Armor is objectively weaker than other armor sets out of the box. There are still eleventy bajillion fire armor brutes, because fire armor has a payoff for its weakness in the things it does for offense. But now, Quick Recovery is no longer the attractive proposition it used to be in issue 18, and its benefits can be duplicated with IOs, so Regen no longer has a payoff that compensates for its weaknesses. -
To start with the obvious - how many reward merits do you have? (ATOs are 100 apiece.) If you ran old school missions only the mission owner gets reward merits from finishing the stories.

At the risk of being mildly political, the 'war on drugs' has not aged well and will not be remembered fondly by history. I would consider replacing all of the 2004 drug-warrior references with some different kind of hazard involving alien weapons and the like. Make it clear that Superadine is some kind of bodybuilding hormone rather than a simple stimulant.

How much cash inf do you have on your account?
Heraclea replied to Yomo Kimyata's topic in General Discussion
This is very close to how I play as well once I got the Factory up and running. It's pure communism, from each according to her abilities, to each according to her needs. If I liquidated all of the holdings in my several SG bases the proceeds would probably run to tens of billions. I also acquire catalysts in such a way that the supply outpaces the demand; I don't do mains or (for the most part) badgers, so most of my level 50s get trotted out semi-regularly. Where the cash goes is mostly converters, because I craft every yellow recipe from useless sets that I happen to have the salvage for, and converter gamble on it until it turns into something one of my up and coming characters will eventually want. As a result I buy very few things on the AH, mostly converters, because there's never enough spare-change merits. -
Introduction to Arachnos Widows - Night/Blood/Fortunata

From Victory days I seem to remember a slotting trick for Mind Link, where you couldn't slot the power for recharge in a straightforward way, but if you slotted Defense/Recharge buttons from many different defense sets, you could add substantial recharge to the power. Does this still work? -

Heraclea replied to Yomo Kimyata's topic in General Discussion
I definitely have more than 100m inf (carried by a handful of my richest characters) but almost certainly short of 1b across all of them. I am constantly moving tranches of inf in emails, usually in 20m lots, for levelling characters to use as they please. This, along with hero and transcendental merits, is the usual traffick of my email. -
Instant Healing: why hasn't it been reverted to a toggle yet?
Heraclea replied to LEUGIM6's topic in General Discussion
I never played Regen during its heyday and have no personal memory of how it used to play. I very much doubt that it is the best tanking set in the game. I made a staff/regen brute with the specific intention of making that one a tanking brute. It kinda sorta works, after cleaning out the base of defense bonus IOs, but it still wouldn't be the brute I'd take to a master run. My longstanding suggestion is: if you're going to offer players an armor set with zero defense, paltry resistances outside of a 15 second interval, and a bunch of click heals on different timers, it needs to have the ability to do its different thing preserved. Regen should offer solid resistance to the point of practical immunity to -heal, -HP, -recharge, -end, and endurance draining. These buffs would not be game breaking outside of content that's broken already. Their only effect would be to allow regen to use its click heals and buffs, whose benefits are too often debuffed away in some game content. -
I've mentioned it before: at the Crowned Heads on Torchbearer, we believe in religion. Doesn't matter which one; they all help to keep the peasants contented and focused on the next world. To the three existing ones, we have added a fourth house of worship:
